Friday Favorites

Hello Friday.
Today, I’m linking up with NarciAndrea and Erika and sharing a few of my favorite things from this last week.  I don’t know about you…but I’m ready for the weekend :).

Here are a few random things that I love this fabulous Friday…

So, I am going to blame you ladies for my new addiction.  I mentioned last week that I’m now binge watching Gilmore Girls thanks to your recommendations on my TV post.  I just cannot stop watching…it is so good!!  I seriously need the show to end just so that I can gain control over my life again…because right now, I do not own my life, Netflix and Gilmore Girls do.  I’m pretty sure when this series is over and I move on to your second recommendation…Downton Abbey, that it’s going to run my life too. #ihaveproblems

On Tuesday, Bethenney Frankel’s site featured my Skinny Girl Margarita Bundt Cake.  If you haven’t tried it, you totally should.  When I think of May, I think of this bundt cake…it just tastes like May :).

On Monday at dinner, Smith asked if we could start playing “highs and lows” at supper each night.  So, all week, we’ve been going around the table and saying our high from the day and our low from the day…and it’s been so special.  I hope this is a tradition that we keep up for many weeks and years to come :).

My new favorite uniform is one of these Lush Tops, jeans and wedges.  I’m going to go ahead and say this outfit will be on repeat all spring and summer long.  Last year, I bought one of these tops in a print but this year, I bought it in two solid colors…love them!
(And just FYI, they come in 9 different solid colors and I bought the shirt in a small.)
And my fun necklaces are all Stella & Dot :).
One last little thing I love to wear…
…I’ve talked about my love for J Crew colored shorts approximately 8 billion times before.  I love them.  I love them. I love them.  Well, they’re 25% off right now with promo code SHOPNOW.
I typically buy the 3″ Chinos but they come in longer lengths too.  So many fun colors to chose from!

And my final Friday Favorite…

I pureed watermelon and put it in the cupcakes and frosting…so, so, so good!

Happy Friday friends!  I hope all of you mamas out there have a wonderful Mother’s Day!!
xoxo

The tops you're wearing look nice! Although I wish I could see them better. Like maybe a mirror snapshot ?
    The watermelon cupcakes sound yum-mee!!

    • Kim May 8, 2015 at 1:11 pm

I always hope for this too!

  • Nicole Miller May 8, 2015 at 10:38 am

I hope you love Downton Abbey! 😉

  • Erika Slaughter May 8, 2015 at 10:48 am

The Slaughter family does highs and lows every night at dinner! It's a great way to get them talking about their day rather than, "what'd you do at school?" Happy Friday Girl!!

  • Narci May 8, 2015 at 11:05 am

Aw! That picture of Smith is so sweet!! Also, I need one of those cupcakes right this minute!! 🙂 see you soon, girl!!

  • Melissa Frye May 8, 2015 at 11:13 am

We started doing 'Favorite Part of Your Day' with our kids a long time ago, and now our oldest is 16 and they still expect it at every dinner. On Sundays we ask 'What did you learn at church and how does it apply to you?' Funny thing is, even when we have guests at dinner, they participate too…. And some of our more frequent guests come to expect it too! With our brood (16,14,12,10), we have no problems with talking and sharing at mealtimes… Usually we can't get them to be quiet!

    • Laurie S May 8, 2015 at 12:18 pm

Melissa -this is wonderful that you and your family and guests do this! What a way to foster lines of communications and build relationships!

  • Beautifully Seaside // Formerly Chic Coastal Living May 8, 2015 at 11:22 am

Love that idea of high/low of the day and those watermelon cupcakes look delicious! Happy Mother's Day!

  • Sheaffer {Pinterest Told Me To} May 8, 2015 at 11:33 am

So I'm dying to know….how many new J. Crew shorts did you get with the sale? I won't tell a soul. 🙂

  • Anonymous May 8, 2015 at 11:39 am

Your cake was featured because YOU submitted it. Who does that? Hahaha

    • Mix and Match Mama May 8, 2015 at 11:46 am

Didn't submit it. Her social media manager reached out to me last week and asked for written consent to feature it. They found me. Happy Friday :).

    • Kim May 8, 2015 at 1:13 pm

      Congrats! Well deserved!!

    • Kim Kauffman May 8, 2015 at 3:42 pm

I rarely comment but snarky comments made while anonymous drive me crazy! Congratulations on being featured- that is awesome! Planning on making one of your bundt cakes for Mother's Day. Have a great weekend! 🙂

    • Anonymous May 8, 2015 at 3:59 pm

So what if she submitted it? Who cares Who did? It was just an honor to be one of the ones picked.

People behind anonymous names are just not even classy enough to come out and say it they have to hide.
shay.. good for you to address it and I know you have probably not given it another thought.. yeah fir you ☺

  • Anonymous May 8, 2015 at 12:06 pm

Ohhhh I think I may need some JCrew shorts!! Love your blog, Shay! And I especially love how you respond to even the most negative comments with class! Happy Friday!! 🙂

  • The Boutelle Family May 8, 2015 at 12:13 pm

That ecard is hilarious! And oh so true! 🙂 We do highs & lows at dinner, too. I love hearing what my 3 y/o comes up with. It gives me such insight into what matters to her <3 Have a wonderful weekend! Happy Mother's Day!!

  • Madeline Richards May 8, 2015 at 12:17 pm

Obsessed with JCrew shorts, but even more obsessed with Gilmore Girls…keep watching, it only gets better!!

  • Kelly Guinn May 8, 2015 at 12:20 pm

We basically have all the same loves. Hahaha. I'm also completely addicted to Gilmore Girls. It's to the point that my husband is being driven a little crazy with it. And J Crew shorts are THE BEST. I love mine, too.

We do "roses and thorns" at dinner time. Granted, my daughter is too young to fully participate but I think it's such a sweet tradition and a good way to get dinnertime conversation going!

  • The Yarbrough's May 8, 2015 at 12:25 pm

Girl you got it going on. I don't know how you juggle everything. Happy Friday!!! P.S. Those cupcakes look amazing. I could eat one for breakfast. Yum!!

  • Angela Ellingson May 8, 2015 at 1:03 pm

That is sooo me when I start a show on Netflix. I don't want it to end, but I need it to end so I can move on with my life! So cool about your bundt cake! I bought a bundt pan because of your cakes. I love highs and lows! What a special family tradition to start.

  • Corner of Sass and Snark May 8, 2015 at 1:14 pm

I LOVE Downton Abbey. Unfortunately, it isn't on Netflix, so I've missed all of this season. Boooo.

    • Kimberly May 9, 2015 at 3:54 am

It's on Amazon Prime!! Get the free month and binge!!!

  • Brittany Deskins May 8, 2015 at 1:20 pm

Ha! I totally relate to the Netflix e-card..exactly how I felt after finishing Parenthood!

  • Kristin May 8, 2015 at 1:22 pm

Cant wait to hear what you think about Downton! Gilmore Girls is good but no comparison to Downton. I got in half way through and had to binge watch the first couple seasons. Its SOOO good! Like put down the I-phone, grab a glass of wine, zero interruptions, don't talk to me for an hour and fifteen minutes good! And FYI – when shown on PBS, they cut them down by 10min or so but when you download them you get the full show. You will be totally addicted to this one!

  • Anonymous May 8, 2015 at 1:24 pm

Love the tops you highlighted. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  • Kristin May 8, 2015 at 1:25 pm

Also – I love highs and lows. I once read that you should ask your kids three questions at the end of the day to get them to really talk to you about how their day went- What made you laugh today? What made you sad today? What did you learn today? I've been doing that with my 3yr old each night and I love hearing what she has to say and Its a fun way to see life through her eyes.

  • Natalie Zambreski May 8, 2015 at 1:26 pm

So glad the lush shirts are back!! Can't wait to grab one!

    • Anonymous May 8, 2015 at 4:02 pm

Haha! Right? At least she is secure enough to publish the negative comments about her and address them. Most bloggers won't. Good for you Shay, standing up to the bullies.

    • Carly May 9, 2015 at 1:05 pm

Your bundt cakes are fantastic!!! So far, I have made your Pineapple Upside Down for Easter, Muddy Mississippi for my brother's birthday, Hummingbird for my (10 month 🙂 ….why not?) wedding anniversary, and Piña Colada for my hubby's job promotion! Skinny Girl needs to happen soon :). You're amazing and #hatersgonnahate, but keep rockin it, Mixandmatchmama!

  • Melissa Sexton May 8, 2015 at 1:30 pm

I don't understand it, but every time people make snotty comments to you, I want to beat them up (not literally:). I have never met you, but I feel protective of you guys! If you are ever in the Detroit area, you have a 5'2", 125 lbs bodyguard waiting for you:)

  • Lindsay (LindsayWeighsIn) May 8, 2015 at 1:33 pm

Love the idea of the highs and lows! Gilmore girls is one of my absolute favorite shows – I rewatch it all the time. When it came on Netflix, I was done for! Happy Friday!!

  • Anonymous May 8, 2015 at 1:54 pm

Confession. When I finish Gilmore girls I usually start it again a few months later because I love it that much. I have watched the whole series more times than I would like to admit. I already told my husband if we ever have a girl I am going to want to name her Lorelei

  • Kelsey Mann Peacock May 8, 2015 at 1:58 pm

Love the high & low game! So fun! Those Lush tops are one of my favorites for sure!

Ahh, Gilmore Girls. I loved that show. I finished the series last week and miss it so much! Okay, those J-crew shirts are fabulous, I need them in my life. Happy Mother's Day!

  • She's a big star May 8, 2015 at 2:55 pm

My fellow Red Sox loving girl… I'm sharing this with you because I know you'll appreciate… my FAVORITE moment this week was taking my son and his friend to meet Pedro Martinez! SO fun… it doesn't get much better for a Sox fan! 🙂

  • Alyssa May 8, 2015 at 3:05 pm

Love love LOVE my J. Crew colored shorts, too! I was just telling my daughter yesterday that I needed to order more because I love them so much! Plus, the front pockets are big enough to completely fit my phone without anything sticking out!

  • Anonymous May 8, 2015 at 3:17 pm

We do highs and lows but we call it "the sun" and "the cloud" of our days 🙂

  • Anonymous May 8, 2015 at 3:47 pm

If you ever listen to Podcasts, you should definitely check out "Gilmore Guys"… they are currently getting ready to start on Season 4 of recapping and chatting about Gilmore Girls– and they legit love the show! Love Gilmore Girls, finished the series for the first time about a year ago, and Gilmore Guys has definitely filled the void!

  • Dawn May 8, 2015 at 11:15 am

We just finished watching the Parenthood series last night and I am SO sad that it's over! Gilmore Girls is next on my list!!

  • Karen At Home May 8, 2015 at 4:26 pm

Love the Lush tops just ordered myself a mint one. I think discussing the highs and lows of the day is an awesome way to get the kids chatting about their day, perfect! Happy Mother's Day Shay!!!

  • Karen May 8, 2015 at 4:32 pm

My oldest is now 31 and we watched Gilmore Girls each week. I really need to go back and watch again! I am getting ready to start Scandal because of you ~ 😉 You will love Downton Abbey ~ season 2 was a little snoozy due to the WW1. Good thing about it there are so few episodes each season!!! Have a blessed weekend! xox

  • Ranisa May 8, 2015 at 5:12 pm

I teach Sunday scho for the four year olds at church. We do hi and lows too. We call them sweet and sours. Four year olds cone up with some pretty sweet stuff- even the sours

  • Lindsay at Lindsay'sSweetWorld May 8, 2015 at 5:13 pm

I am totally in love with the Highs and Lows game at the dinner table every night idea! I'm totally going to have to steal it! Hope you have a Happy Mother's Day!

Hi Shay! Just wanted to say Happy Mother's Day to you! Love the Lush tops too, saw the pink one in your post from the "Life Lately" post and was wondering, "hmmm where did she get that" lol so I'm glad you shared today. Have a good weekend!

  • Paige May 8, 2015 at 6:43 pm

We always talk about our best part of our day at dinner…sometimes we throw in the low too. It's a great way to appreciate the good things every day!

  • Carolyn May 8, 2015 at 11:09 pm

LOVE all of your Friday favorites! Happy Mothers Day to you!

  • Anonymous May 9, 2015 at 12:14 am

Bethenny is my favorite housewife of all time! That is so cool!!

  • Anonymous May 9, 2015 at 1:55 am

Instead of of high and low ( because my kids are little) we share three good things that happen to us each day . It has been a great tradition. Sometimes I am surprised by the things the kids or my husnand say and the kids never let us go a day without doing it.

  • Rachel Dean May 9, 2015 at 4:46 am

I love that you love Gilmore Girls!!! Best show ever! However, don't be fooled into thinking you'll regain your life…I finished the series and missed it so much that I'm now rewatching! Haha happy Friday!

  • Sandra Litcher May 9, 2015 at 10:31 am

We just finished Friday Night Lights and I was so happy so that I could get more sleep again!! Every night it was just one more episode over and over again! Can't wait to try those cupcakes, I love watermelon anything!

  • Jaren May 9, 2015 at 1:09 pm

Loving the favorites for sure this week! First, Downton Abbey has taken over my life! I'm almost done with Season 1 in one week, and this is completely out of character for me to watch this much! Second, love the Highs and Lows activity so much, and third, I'm loving those Lush Tops!!

  • Anonymous May 10, 2015 at 1:02 am

Bethenny Frankel & Shay?! Two of my favorites! Hope to see more collaboration in the future!

  • Candi Waugh May 10, 2015 at 9:27 pm

Gilmore Girls is pure awesomeness!! I want to live in Stars Hollow!!

  • Anonymous May 11, 2015 at 4:57 am

I use highs and lows during staff meetings, we call them warm fuzzies and cold pricklies.
