Show & Tell Tuesday: Our Yard

Happy Tuesday!
I’m linking up today with my girly Andrea and showing your pics of my yard.
I love looking at pictures of where people live (inside their homes and out), so I’m excited to go through the link up today and see all of the yards.  Fun, fun, fun!
Okay…we pretty much live in our backyard during the summer.  When Andrew and I started thinking about what kind of house we wanted to build, we knew we wanted a great outdoor space with patio living, a pool and a playground.
The yard was most definitely Andrew’s vision.  I took this picture of Andrew over two years ago while on our property…
…see him waaaaaay out there?  He is looking at what would become our backyard.  He kept telling me that they would build our house up high and then the yard would go down.  I’m not going to lie…it was hard for me to see exactly what he was talking about at the time.
But here we are today…

…vision completed.

This is the view from our patio.  There is a creek that runs behind all of the houses on our street and empties into a little lake.  Behind the creek is our back fence and then a greenbelt…so, you really get the impression that you’re out in the middle of nowhere when you’re in fact, in the middle of town.  Andrew also planted trees along our wrought iron fence on all four sides to keep the backyard more private (since we have neighbors on both sides).

 View to the right.

View to the left.

View back up to the house.

On the patio.
This is a view from inside the house of the creek (it was raining and that’s when the creek gets going).
And my favorite view :).
So, that’s our backyard.  I can’t wait to look through and see yours too!
Next time on Show & Tell Tuesdays, we’re showing you our beauty routines!
And to see posts from the past…
(I was in China for the first two, so I wasn’t able to participate.)
Need a quick summer dessert?  One that can also be a little patriotic too?  How about my Red, White and Blueberry Cobbler?

Have the best day friends!

Lovely backyard – I moved to NW Houston a few years back – the biggest challenge I have is just keeping the patio furniture clean – from all the dust and such. What is your routine for keeping the patio clean?

    • Mix and Match Mama June 16, 2015 at 10:59 am

We vacuum (with our little hand held vacuum) the furniture and if it's still dirty, we can unzip the covers and throw them in the washer. We wipe off everything and vacuum the patio after each use to keep crumbs off the ground and unwanted friends (mice!) away.

  • Katie June 16, 2015 at 10:23 am

    Just beautiful!!!

  • Elizabeth June 16, 2015 at 10:43 am

I love the backyard! We're tall not nervous about little ones running up and down the stairs?? I think my mom made me paranoid about my kids ever getting hurt :/

    • Mix and Match Mama June 16, 2015 at 11:01 am

The stairs are stone and rough on your feet, so it kind of naturally makes you walk carefully. So far, my kids have been very cautious both going up and going down.

    • Elizabeth June 17, 2015 at 11:03 am

      Makes sense! πŸ™‚ Thank you!

  • Johannah June 16, 2015 at 10:53 am

You definitely have a beautiful yard! Is that rubber mulch that you have down on the kids swingset/play area?

  • KellyinPA June 16, 2015 at 11:24 am

What a lovely space! You have made your backyard into an oasis right the middle of Texas:)

  • Hilary Jose June 16, 2015 at 11:27 am

Absolutely beautiful and so private, I love it!

  • Blake Callahan June 16, 2015 at 11:32 am

Love your backyard! Have a blessed day!

  • Ramona June 16, 2015 at 11:43 am

Your yard is stunning but those stairs are the star IMHO.

  • Kelly @ Familiar Joy June 16, 2015 at 11:47 am

It's just perfect!! Wow! What are your rules for back yard play without an adult? We've talked about putting in a pool but I get freaked out by the thought of one of my little ones falling in. Do you have an alarm on your back door? How does it work? I'm trying to convince my hubby we can do it! πŸ˜‰

    • Mix and Match Mama June 16, 2015 at 12:24 pm

No one is allowed outside without an adult. We have an alarm that peeps when doors open and deadbolt locks on every door that the kids can't reach. The kids know they can't go outside unless an adult is with them…so that means, I'm outside a lot ;).

    • Kelly @ Familiar Joy June 17, 2015 at 4:46 am

At least you have cozy spaces to be! I'd grab a coffee (or glass of wine!) and a good book, and be totally content while the kids were playing! πŸ˜‰

  • Erika Slaughter June 16, 2015 at 11:53 am

Sitting in one of those chairs on your patio is one of my favorite places to be!!!

  • Lisa June 16, 2015 at 11:58 am

No wonder you spend most of your time out there, it is beautiful!!! Love it.

  • Aubrey June 16, 2015 at 12:01 pm

Beautiful! I love love love that deck area by the pool, with lounge chairs. Can I just come camp right there? ?

  • marissa connolly June 16, 2015 at 12:23 pm

do you get any bees, wasps, or flies? we have so many at our house so we can't even go outside. is there a trap or spray that you recommend? I have even tried homemade traps and nothing works! :/ your home is gorgeous by the way!

  • mintandmason June 16, 2015 at 12:25 pm

If I move in, I promise I'll only sleep in the backyard!! Just give me a cot or a floating device and I'll be set for life! As long as there are no snakes back there! Theeeeeen I might be jumping into your bed! Great space, Shay! I love it!!!

  • Mix and Match Mama June 16, 2015 at 12:26 pm

Our problem is mosquitoes (boo!). We have a pest control company come out and spray the yard several times a month to keep them away (for the most part).

  • Anonymous June 16, 2015 at 12:27 pm

Just curious, do you have a basement? You've showed us so much of your gorgeous home I think that's the one thing I've always wondered about!

    • Mix and Match Mama June 16, 2015 at 12:59 pm

Nope, no basement. It would be nice though!

  • Tracy June 16, 2015 at 12:44 pm

What a stunning, fun, awesome backyard! Where's the garden you planted? I couldn't spot it in any of the pictures! πŸ™‚

    • Mix and Match Mama June 16, 2015 at 1:58 pm

Directly to the right of the last play ground picture. The yard turns and goes up that way and it's right there next to the retaining wall :).

  • Lora G June 16, 2015 at 1:56 pm

That is a dream outdoor space! I love it all πŸ™‚

  • Anonymous June 16, 2015 at 2:06 pm

  • Jenny June 16, 2015 at 3:11 pm

I love your yard. So beautiful and practical! I've been dying to ask for a while and hate to ask because everyone else probably knows, but… what is the black rope thing in your pool?

    • Mix and Match Mama June 16, 2015 at 5:35 pm

It keeps the pool clean! It's a vacuum :). Have the best day!!

I look forward to your blog every day! I am not a mama but I loved getting ideas for the future. I made your Chicken with the peach/ jalapeno / green onion sauce dish on Friday night… IT WAS DELISH!!!

  • Suzanne @ Life is a Mix June 16, 2015 at 4:14 pm

Wow, you would never know you were right in the middle of the city by the looks of your backyard. That's exactly how I would want it, too! I like being in a neighborhood(with some privacy) but my husband wants to be on a couple of acres or more. I think something like this is the perfect compromise! It looks like you are out in the country but surprise……you're not!!! Ha!

  • balancingbyfaith June 16, 2015 at 12:08 pm

I would LIVE on the covered patio every evening!! Beautiful!

  • balancingbyfaith June 16, 2015 at 12:09 pm

I would LIVE on the covered patio in the evenings! Beautiful!!

Can't wait to read your beauty routine! And also I've been waiting for your finding of a great tinted moisturizer!! πŸ™‚ I look forward to reading your blog everyday!!! Do you use self tanning wipes in the Summer? Also, I'm looking for a new foundation – so hopefully you'll mention the one you're currently loving in that post too!!

  • Joe and Casey Burns June 16, 2015 at 12:59 pm

It's beautiful! I would really love to see the layout of the house too! I'm getting ideas since we'll be building soon!

  • Kelly Boyd June 16, 2015 at 6:51 pm

So, so beautiful!!!! Love all the landscaping and details! What a dream!

  • Loni "The Healthie Foodie" June 16, 2015 at 7:45 pm

Beautiful yard Shay!! I try to always be happy with what I have – but I have to admit a little jealous…lol.

I am curious – is hard to keep it up. Do you garden? Or do you have a gardener?

    πŸ™‚ Happy Tuesday

    • Mix and Match Mama June 16, 2015 at 8:39 pm

We have someone who comes and mows the grass and then Andrew maintains and plants the flowers in the beds, pots and such. Andrew loooooves yard work. He says it's relaxing (win, win for me, right?!).

  • Melanie Wynn June 16, 2015 at 2:59 pm

Beautiful back yard! I love the stairs and patio area. I'm kind of jealous at how good your grass looks!! Hopefully we will have grass next year!

  • Jeanie June 16, 2015 at 10:40 pm

    Your backyard is absolutely stunning!

  • Andrea K June 17, 2015 at 12:13 am

We live in NY & if you have inground pool you need fence around it, does TX not have that law?

    • Mix and Match Mama June 17, 2015 at 12:21 am

Your yard just has to be fenced and secured. Our yard is fenced all the way around and locked at each entrance.

  • Jaren June 17, 2015 at 2:12 am

Oh my goodness Shay! Your yard is beautiful! I would love it when the kids played outside! What a great place to be! That must have taken some major dirt to build up that high! Gorgeous! I guess you should keep Andrew around because his vision was great!

  • Rachel - Floral and Fudge June 17, 2015 at 3:08 am

    What a beautiful patio!!
I am loving the awesome playground for the kids as well! πŸ™‚

  • Olivia June 17, 2015 at 3:29 am

Holy moly that is an amazing yard! Seriously perfect! I bet there will be so many memories made in that backyard for your kiddos and their friends…how awesome!

  • Sharon June 17, 2015 at 6:10 am

Love your backyard. FYI, we put on a pool net and a pool fence so that we can feel confident about their safety when playing outside. But I can still see them while in the kitchen when they are playing on the playset, trampoline or yard. Don't know if that would help you. I love the kids playing outside and never would let them by themselves without our pool net and fence :-). Granted, the pool net, makes the pool a bit more annoying to get in, but not that bad at all. Looking forward to having strong swimmers in a year or two when we can at least take the net off unless we have young visitors :-).

  • Lauren Rizzo June 17, 2015 at 5:55 pm

Your yard is absolutely beautiful. Do you have a post on the inside of your house? And when your new addition of finished will you do a post on that. I would love to see that.

  • Abbey June 18, 2015 at 12:30 am

We are building now and trying to decide what we want with a pool. I like your pool decking…is it slippery? What is it?

  • Anonymous June 21, 2015 at 8:45 pm

  • Keri October 9, 2015 at 6:33 pm

I love the swing set! We are currently looking for one to get our kids for Christmas. Was it from a local company or from somewhere we could order from? I'm in SC. πŸ™‚ Thanks!

  • Fay April 19, 2016 at 4:58 pm

What type of pool do you have? Liner, gunite, or fiberglass? Any tips for something thinking about installing one?
