Friday Favorites

friday-favorites-01

Annnnnd…I’m back.

Thank you so much for all of the words of love and support yesterday when I was on Today!  I had a BLAST!  I flew home when it was over and now, I’m back to business here.  (And by that, I mean I’m at the orthodontist’s office getting one of my permanent retainers fixed because it broke and you know…life is so glamorous and everything…).

I took a few pics behind the scenes and will show you guys next week after I catch my breath a little.  I hope you are having a great Friday!  As always, I’m linking up with Andrea, Erika and Narci and sharing my favorite things from the week.

1

October Book Review

Book review day is ALWAYS a favorite of mine.  If you missed it from this week, click HERE.  Make sure you read the comments for lots of suggestions!

2

This is totally random, but how cute is my new leopard clutch?!  I saw it on my friend Megan’s website and ordered one ASAP.

img_9170

I put my hand on it in this pic so that you can see the size.  I thought it would look totally cute with my holiday stuff this year.  And if you’re checking out Megan’s online boutique, make sure you look at her scarves.  This girl has a ton of good scarves!

3

Look what I finally got to wear…

And look what I ordered from Gap this week…

gap-sweater

…eeeks!  Isn’t this sweater cute?!  I saw it in store but was waiting for it to go on sale and earlier this week, it did.  I just think it’s too cute for words!

6

instapot

Okay, I feel like I’ve had about 8 million people tell me that I need one of these.  It’s an Instant Pot.  Do you have one?  Do you think I need one?  Seriously, it’s like the number one thing people are talking to me about right now…and people are PASSIONATE about it (I’m talking to you Courtney!).  I am intrigued…Instant Pot people please share!

7

Pumpkin Chess Pie

Yesterday, I baked a pumpkin pie with Kathie Lee and Hoda and today, another version…my Pumpkin Chess Pie.  Your Thanksgiving needs this.

That’s it for this Friday!  Enjoy your weekend.  Don’t forget to fall back :).

That clutch is already in my basket waiting to be purchased. It will be so cute with holiday clothing. Loving that black dress, I may need to get it in green for Christmas card pictures. What type of material is it?

Have a fabulous weekend! See you again on Monday!

    • Mix and Match Mama November 4, 2016 at 4:52 am

It’s thicker than the sleeveless version I wear. I was able to wear it without worrying about needing a slip or anything underneath.

      • Hannah Belfeld November 4, 2016 at 11:17 am

What size are you wearing in the black dress? I simply love it????

        • Mix and Match Mama November 4, 2016 at 12:32 pm

          xsmall…it’s so cute!!

  • Melissa November 4, 2016 at 5:10 am

Happy Friday Shay. You were great on Today! Love all your Friday favs. I have to ask, where did you get the top or sweater, can’t tell, that you wore on Today with the white cuffs? Thanks so much! Hope you have a great weekend!

  • Amanda November 4, 2016 at 5:10 am

It was fun seeing you on Today! They’re a riot. Kind of looks like a party with controlled chaos! And I can’t wait to try that recipe! Happy Friday!

  • Jenny November 4, 2016 at 5:17 am

Love that clutch! I have a couple of clutches that I like and, now that my kids are older (9 and 7) I really had hoped that I’d be able to down-size my purse every now and then–like for date night (what’s that?) but find myself still reaching for the Wet Wipes and other stuff that I only can fit in my big “mom purse.” But, that clutch could convince me to invent a reason to use it–and leave the Wet Wipes at home. 🙂

    Good job on Today yesterday!

  • Danielle Morman November 4, 2016 at 5:22 am

Hey Shay! I want to order the booties but the reviews say they are way to high and to go down a size from normal. I wear a 7.5 in dress shoes. Would you recommend going down to a 7?

    • Mix and Match Mama November 4, 2016 at 5:46 am

I ordered true to size and they fit perfectly. I typically wear an 8 and I bought an 8!

  • Sheaffer November 4, 2016 at 5:49 am

WHOAH! The dress and the booties are on sale? I love those booties so much! And that GAP sweater is precious!

  • Heather November 4, 2016 at 6:04 am

I was terrified of my Instant Pot but when I finally got over it I crossed into the obsessed camp. I don’t do fancy things but it saves me tonssss of time on food prep and last minute dinners (like frozen chicken). These are some of the food prep things I use it for (plus i do steel cut oats now too!): http://www.sideofsneakers.com/how-to-use-instant-pot-easy-meal-prep/

  • Andrea November 4, 2016 at 6:22 am

Please get an instant Pot!! I’d love to see what recipes you’d make. I just got a cuisnart electric pressure cooker and love it!

  • Sarah November 4, 2016 at 6:26 am

Oooo I’m going to have to look into an InstaPot! Sounds interesting! LOVE your black dress!!! And that sweater! Thanks for all the recommendations!

Hope you enjoy your weekend!! It’s our first weekend as a family of five (well, second, but we had company last weekend!) – we just had our third little girl 11 days ago 🙂

  • Krista November 4, 2016 at 6:34 am

I love that dress! Need it! Is it true to size and I assume has some good stretch?

    • Mix and Match Mama November 4, 2016 at 12:36 pm

I do believe it’s true to size with lots of stretch and a little room too.

  • Amy November 4, 2016 at 6:53 am

Love your blog! Thanks for sharing your makeup. Have you ever shared your skincare routine? I’d love to hear more about it!

  • Valerie Cox November 4, 2016 at 6:54 am

Loved seeing you on KLG and Hoda!! You were phenomenal of course! Shay Shull, Shay Shull, Shay Shull haha.

  • Kathryn katz November 4, 2016 at 7:00 am

Yes yes yes on the instant pot! It’s life changing buy one then share recipes ????????????

  • Erin smith November 4, 2016 at 7:05 am

Loving that dress (and the fact that it’s on sale!) Question- is it pretty tight fitting? Do you think it would work with leggings? Thanks and congrats about the Today show- can’t wait to go back and watch!

    • Mix and Match Mama November 4, 2016 at 12:36 pm

It’s not tight fitting at all. And yes, I totally think it would work with leggings!

  • Megan November 4, 2016 at 7:06 am

Last night Shane asked me why we had Today recorded on the DVR. I said because mix and match mama was on and I wanted to watch. His reply? “Oh, Shay? How fun!”. Ha! You’re even well known with the hubby apparently. Can’t wait to watch!

    • Angela Ellingson November 5, 2016 at 11:29 pm

haha Love this! A few months ago I was saying something about Shay to my hubby, and said, “my blog friend Shay…” and he interrupted me and said, “you don’t have to say, ‘my blog friend,’ you can just say Shay. I know who she is.” hahaha

  • Mother Henn November 4, 2016 at 7:21 am

Love my InstaPot……especially for quick suppers and one-pot meals. I also think it’s perfect for rice and quinoa. Pop them in and by the time you’re finished working on other ingredients, they’re finished and kept warm. One less thing to worry about.

  • HW November 4, 2016 at 7:25 am

You have probably solved my annual dilemma…what to get my brother/mother for Christmas? Hello, InstaPot!

  • Lia November 4, 2016 at 7:25 am

Hi Shay! Loved these Friday favorites 🙂 the black dress is so cute and for such a great price point! Did you have to get it hemmed? Have a fabulous Friday!

  • Lia November 4, 2016 at 7:27 am

Hi Shay! Love these Friday favorites! The black dress is so cute- and for such a great price point! Did you have to get it hemmed or is that picture the original length of the dress? Thank you, and have a fabulous Friday! 🙂

    • Mix and Match Mama November 4, 2016 at 12:35 pm

      That’s the original length!

  • Lizzie @ This Happy Life November 4, 2016 at 7:58 am

I’ve been hearing lots about that InstaPot! I can’t wait to read through the comments and see what others say about it. That dress and those booties are so adorable!! I need to find the clip of you on Today because I missed it!!

  • Natalie Buie November 4, 2016 at 8:05 am

    What size is your dress?

    • Mix and Match Mama November 4, 2016 at 12:35 pm

      xsmall!

  • Allie November 4, 2016 at 8:08 am

LOVE my instant pot!! We use it weekly for meal prep – we have used every setting it has and it’s amazing! I’ve always wanted a pressure cooker and it’s always nice to have a 2nd slow cooker in the house! You won’t regret getting it 🙂
I’m wondering if the black dress would look good on a 6 month pregnant gal? It looks a little longer on you… but viewing it on Nordstrom site makes it look shorter. You can’t be the price though!

  • Brooke Richardson November 4, 2016 at 8:10 am

That Gap sweater is calling my name!!! Its adorable!

  • Merideth November 4, 2016 at 8:18 am

We love our InstaPot although we haven’t used it in a while. Thanks for the reminder to fire it back up! Enjoyed your Today segment this week! Have a great weekend!

  • Trish November 4, 2016 at 8:22 am

I have an Instapot that I was terrified to start using, but everyone kept telling me to try and I am so glad I finally caved! I love it! The ability to cook food quickly that normally takes all day in the crockpot is a major time saver! And the meat I have made in it is always so tender! I have barely scratched the surface of what I can do with it so I would love some more recipes from you! 🙂

  • Linda Grubbs November 4, 2016 at 8:23 am

Hi Shay…..It was fun to see you on the Today show! I feel like I know you now!! I recently retired from the Athletic Dept at K-State ( think you know some people who went there 😉 )

  • Katie Ault November 4, 2016 at 8:28 am

Yes….you NEED an instant pot! I love mine so much that I want to get a second one. Freezer meals can be cooked from frozen to table in most cases under an hour. http://www.onceamonthmeals.com has a ton recipes and awesome tips and tricks for the instant pot.

  • haley @Cupcakes and Sunshine November 4, 2016 at 8:29 am

looove that clutch!! and dress too!!!!

  • heidi November 4, 2016 at 8:29 am

I’m off to Google insta pot lol…
I was in Williams Sonoma this week and I saw a hot chocolate & Friday milk maker. .I’m not a coffee drinker but oohhh this spoke as my Friday favorite lol

  • Katherine November 4, 2016 at 8:34 am

I LOVE that leopard clutch! I consider leopard print a neutral so I love wearing it with everything! I will definitely be checking that out. And the black booties are adorable too! Thanks for sharing! Here are some of my Friday Favorites! http://www.georgiagoeswest.com

  • Kendra Hoffman November 4, 2016 at 9:02 am

Ohhhh I’ve been loving those booties since you first posted about them, and now that they’re on sale, they are darn near impossible to turn down! They are HAWT.

Also? I love that Arlo is chillin’ in your closet 😉

  • Rebecca November 4, 2016 at 9:02 am

The InstaPot is a less scary word for pressure cooker. Once I got past the “I’ll have a hole in my roof and blow up everyone in the kitchen”, I have loved mine. I use it at least once a week since I got it last year. For someone who loves to cook, it’s a fabulous addition to your tools especially in the summer when you don’t want to heat up the kitchen with the oven.

  • Jenny November 4, 2016 at 9:06 am

How cute is that leopard clutch… and I’ve been needing a new black dress. All in one post, sweet! 🙂 I keep seeing that instant pot everywhere, I guess I better research it and see what the heck it is.

  • Sara November 4, 2016 at 9:08 am

So intrigued by this Instant Pot! Another thing I think you’d love is a Quesadilla Maker. We LOVE ours! It cooks our quesadillas into perfect little triangles, and its so easy to use. Your older kiddos could even use it to make simple quesadillas on their own! This is the one I have, but there are so many similar versions out there! https://www.amazon.com/Hamilton-Beach-25409-Quesadilla-Maker/dp/B0052FXXPW

  • Amber R November 4, 2016 at 9:13 am

Love the black dress Shay!! What size did you get? I’m also so intrigued by the pressure cooker. I may be asking for one for Christmas. ????

    • Mix and Match Mama November 4, 2016 at 12:34 pm

      xsmall!

      • Amber R November 4, 2016 at 2:05 pm

        Thank you!!! ????

  • Olivia Recker November 4, 2016 at 9:29 am

Hi! Love your posts! What size did you get in the black dress??

  • Lindsay @ Lindsay's Sweet World November 4, 2016 at 9:35 am

That little black dress of yours is to die for and I can’t believe how cheap it is right now! I may just have to order one for myself! Happy weekend, Shay!

  • Mary November 4, 2016 at 9:43 am

I saw another ad for the GAP with that sweater and the model is wearing jeans with patches on them. I had the exact same outfit in 1995. I should’ve just saved all my clothes from high school cause they are all back in style 😉

  • Laura Parker November 4, 2016 at 9:56 am

I jumped on the InstantPot bandwagon, but let me tell you about a little setback… The lid retains the smell of the last thing you made. No matter what you do… I don’t make sweets in mine, but I’ve heard complaints about how disgusting it is to get your cheesecake ready when the appliance smells like chicken. And I think I do have a strong sense of smell, but it sicks me out when I open the closet pantry where I keep mine and just get inundated with “leftover smell.” Maybe I’m just going to put my trust in you to find a solution! =)

  • Whitney Pegram November 4, 2016 at 9:57 am

    LOVE that dress & sweater!

  • Kayla Bruce November 4, 2016 at 10:04 am

I bought that dress is green before I even finished reading the post. I’ve been looking for something for holiday parties, and that just might be it 🙂
Also, Target has their “ugly” Christmas sweaters out now. They have penguins, reindeer, snowflakes, etc. So cute!

  • Renee Georget November 4, 2016 at 10:07 am

I’m wondering what on the world is an instant pot!?
Shay–can you do a house tour on ashby and madeley’s room. You style and creativity always excites me!!

  • Cindy November 4, 2016 at 10:08 am

YESSS! An InstantPot will change your life forever, and you’ll go hug every person that recommended you grab one. You needed one yesterday. Amazon Prime stat!

  • Kristen November 4, 2016 at 10:10 am

I have an InstaPot, but I have times when I am hesitant to use it because I cannot believe it cooks that fast! I told my husband I am going to practice with it this weekend! First I’m trying chicken noodle soup!! – Kristen

  • Rebecca Jo November 4, 2016 at 10:24 am

My favorite thing about the dress picture? The Good Dinosaur photo bombing you 😉

    • Mix and Match Mama November 4, 2016 at 12:33 pm

      #boymom

  • Katherine November 4, 2016 at 11:06 am

Yes to the instant pot! I use mine at least once a day. I cook squash for my baby, homemade beans, rice (especially brown, done in only 30 minutes) meat, veggies, yogurt (just for fun since it can) water bath canning of homemade jam, the list is endless. Best appliance!

  • Maria D. November 4, 2016 at 11:12 am

I don’t have an instant pot – have never heard of them – love, love, love the leopard clutch – will have to add it to my list. I will have to look at your book recommendations – have been sick this week and haven’t been keeping up with my reading – have a great weekend!

  • Maria D. November 4, 2016 at 11:22 am

I have never used an instant pot – not sure I’ve ever seen one before – I definitely have to get the leopard clutch – it is too cute! I missed the book reviews so will have to check them out. Have a good weekend!

  • Celina November 4, 2016 at 11:33 am

The Instant Pot has been a hit in our home! I have noticed that I need to add extra seasoning as some of the flavor seems to escape when the pressure is coming down? But overall it’s been great for whole chickens, soups, etc. I’d love to see you try it and post some recipes!

  • Lauren McLean November 4, 2016 at 11:36 am

Instant pot?? Like a crockpot? Definitely will need to look into that…that Gap sweater is SO CUTE and I think I need it too. Thank you for sharing!

  • Kara November 4, 2016 at 12:38 pm

This is the first I’m hearing of the Instant Pot, but it seems pretty cool. Plus it’s a Canadian product and I gotta support my homies 😉 You did a great job on Today yesterday, but was it just me that felt it was extremely short? I needed more 🙂 Have a wonderful weekend!

  • Brigid November 4, 2016 at 12:40 pm

Have you ever thought about trying to get on The Chew to share one of your recipes? One of my favorite shows 🙂 You’d be great on there!

  • Marissa November 4, 2016 at 1:02 pm

Hi Shay! What color nail polish are you wearing in the picture with the clutch?

    • Mix and Match Mama November 4, 2016 at 2:20 pm

OPI’s Lincoln Park After Dark :).

  • Shelly November 4, 2016 at 1:48 pm

Those booties!!!!!! And yes…need to hear what the instant pot peeps think. I am seriously considering it for my “needs” item this year.

  • Carly November 4, 2016 at 1:55 pm

Shay- On a sad note with the holidays upon us. Michael Bubble 3 yr old son has cancer, he is stopping his career and we all need to pray for his son and family this holiday season. Christmas music by him will sound alittle sadder this year.

  • Rebekah November 4, 2016 at 2:43 pm

We use our cuisinart pressure cooker about once a week, sometimes more often. We’ve had it long before instant pot was a thing, but I never knew how to really use it until instant pot became popular and recipes popped up everywhere! At first I followed recipes exactly but now I just guess & convert crock pot recipes to pressure cooker all the time!

  • Olivia at Joyfully Prudent November 4, 2016 at 3:11 pm

I’ve been wanting those shoes for a while, but just saw the heel is 5 1/2 inches…girl, I’d fall flat on my face with those 🙂 That dress though! I really love it and might just get it! So versatile and perfect for Texas “Fall/winters” Now I need to go practice walking in heels 🙂

  • Megan November 4, 2016 at 3:29 pm

You look fabulous is that black dress!!

  • Pippa November 4, 2016 at 6:59 pm

Yes! You absolutely need an instant pot. They are wonderful- my husband and I both use it slot for cooking (maybe 3 or 4 times a week). It’s great for pressure cooking, and slow cooking. But we also use it as a steamer (water + sauté function) and it’s great for soups – especially if you’re taking it to a pot luck / church dinner as it has a “keep warm” function. It also does the perfect hard boiled eggs. Finally I love that the bowl is stainless steel so it can go in the dishwasher. Also if you do get one buy the additional glass lid which can be used for anything that doesn’t require pressure cooking – it’s nice to be able to watch something. Anyway it is fabulous.

  • Rosemary Vo November 4, 2016 at 10:18 pm

Instant pot butter chicken, mac and cheese in 4 minutes, steam veggies etc.
join instant pot community group on Facebook!

  • Tiffany Tisen November 5, 2016 at 2:58 am

As a huge lover of the crockpot, I was hesitant to try the instapot. But after hearing all the raves, I tried it and ABSOLUTELY love it! It’s super fast which means I can prep in the late afternoon and still have dinner ready in time. Most meats take about 30ish minutes as opposed to 6 hours in the crockpot. I can see you publishing a cookbook with Instapot recipes!! 🙂

  • Jess at Just Jess November 5, 2016 at 9:02 am

I love that clutch and black dress! I hope you have a great weekend. Jess at Just Jess

  • Holly Hopkins November 5, 2016 at 11:20 am

I have never heard of an insta pot but am obsessed with my crock pot. There is something about having supper prep done in the morning and smelling the food cooking all day that is so accomplised feeling.
I am currently on sephora and ordering some of your make up suggestins! Those booties are so darn cute but wouldnt be cute in the cold here in New Brunswick any closed toe suggestions?

  • Jackie Jones November 5, 2016 at 4:02 pm

Love your posts!!! My sister and I have read and posted for years!!!! I just recently started blogging myself- it is Lifestyle with a Little Extra. An extra chromosomes to be exact!! My youngest son has Down Syndrome, and I wanted to show people how life really is…..if you would like to read, here is my link….

  • Kelli November 5, 2016 at 6:35 pm

I guess I’m alone in this camp, but… I didn’t like the Instant Pot. I prefer starting everything in the morning, and having it ready to go by evening. My slow cooker takes care of that for me. I don’t really need something cooked quickly, because that just takes more time all at once at dinner, if that makes sense. 🙂

  • nicolene adams November 6, 2016 at 9:23 am

Hi Shay…love reading ur blog and dont miss a blog even reading old blogs, i read the blog where ur husband answer questions and her talk about a book “not a fan”….i would love 2 read the book and ill start looking 4 it in south africa. • Amber November 6, 2016 at 10:59 pm

What color bands do you have for your Apple Watch? Do you switch often? 🙂

    • Mix and Match Mama November 7, 2016 at 4:31 am

Until about a week ago, I had two: a white one and a leather one. But my white one is just about a year old and was looking dingy, so I bought a light pink one instead. They’re so easy to change out. You can do it in about 3 seconds.

  • Whitney Herrera November 7, 2016 at 2:44 pm

I love my Instapot so much I have 2!!!! LOVE LOVE this thing!!

  • Jessica Perilloux November 9, 2016 at 10:08 am

I loooove that clutch!! Does it have a strap option to wear the bag or is it just the clutch itself? Even so, might be worth a buy for fall/winter…as if we have one of those in the south! 🙂

    • Mix and Match Mama November 9, 2016 at 12:39 pm

It’s just a clutch, no strap!

  • Nicole November 11, 2016 at 6:23 am

What size did you get in the Gap sweater? 🙂

    • Mix and Match Mama November 11, 2016 at 6:31 am

      Small!
