Life Lately.

Well, it’s a post about nothing.

I was going to upload a bunch of pictures of life lately…and apparently, I haven’t taken any.  Hmmmm…is it because I’ve been too busy being an awesome parent and staying away from my phone or…because instead of taking pictures, I’ve been using my phone to finish One Tree Hill?  Hmmmmm?????

Happy Thursday!

My girls all wanted to run errands with me.  I pray that when they’re older, they still do.  Love these three so much!

New family pictures for the year means new canvases on my wall.  I love having the fourth kiddo on there!!!

I would like to title this “four type-A people building a gingerbread house”.  There were so many micro-managers on the project! 😉

Christmas Eve Eve with my people.  And listen…five out of six with their eyes open is sometimes as good as we get around here.

This one is all smiles, all the time.

Christmas Eve dinner with my sweet family.

And then on New Year’s Eve, we went and saw Sing together.  It was so cute!!  We all loved it!

And we started the year with a new do 🙂 .  She wanted to wear a bow like her big sisters.

On Tuesday, I got dressed and sent my mom this picture.  She bought me this sweater for Christmas and I love it!  It’s super, super soft and has the cutest buttons up the back.  I wanted her to see how cute it was but then after wearing it all day (and receiving two compliments from people about it), I thought you’d want to see it too.  Bonus, it’s 40% off now and comes in two color combos.  I like seriously adore it.  Thanks mom :)>.

And speaking of sweaters…

…even though you can barely see it in these pics from NYC, I had several people ask me where I bought this cream one.  You can find it HERE.  (It’s in pink too.)  I found it true to size but I do always wear a cami underneath it (my favorite one is HERE) because of the v-neck.  I’ve worn it now like 6 times because it’s so soft !!  (And the scarf is from J. Crew.)

So, here’s the deal with this picture: on Monday, we slept on our new mattress for the first time and Andrew loved it while I did not.  In lieu of our usual pillow top, we bought a Tempur-Pedic.  They say to give it a month or so and then you’ll fall completely in love and not go back.  So, I asked my friends on Instagram about that and the last time I checked, there were over 600 comments about mattresses :).  If you are in the market for a new mattress, head to my Instagram and read the comments.  I was blown away!  There is so much good info there!  We’re going to give our new mattress a little longer before we decide whether to keep it or return it.  What are your thoughts?  Do you have a Tempur-Pedic?  Did it take a while for you to fall in love too???

That’s it.  I’m off to be an awesome parent watch One Tree Hill now.

See you tomorrow!

I can’t believe you can watch shows on your phone. I can’t stand the small screens!

I completely understand. I think I’ve taken one picture ALL week! How does that happen? Thank you, Netflix. ????

  • Kristin January 5, 2017 at 5:21 am

I love my Tempur-Pedic. I have the cloud elite and fell in love with it the first night I slept in it. My only complaint is that I get hot! I just sleep with an extra fan.

My sister has one too and hates hers. She says it hurts her back but I don’t seem to have those problems.

    Good Luck!

  • Sarah Shaneyfelt January 5, 2017 at 5:33 am

We have a Tempur-Pedic and what people say is true–you have to give it a while! The salesperson actually told us to leave it on the floor for a while and walk all over it for about 2 days before putting it on your bed (you can let your kids do it!!). She said that’s what they do in the mattress stores before they put those mattresses out for people to test. That helped big time! And it’s gotten softer over time. I’ll never go back to anything else!

  • Alli January 5, 2017 at 5:44 am

Hi Shay!! I always love seeing your family picture canvases displayed throughout your house! I am on the hunt to get a few canvases. Do you mind sharing the company you use for yours?? Thank you!

    • Mix and Match Mama January 5, 2017 at 5:56 am

      Totally! I use :).

  • Kelly January 5, 2017 at 5:51 am

What a great looking bunch! Awesome family you have 🙂
regrding the mattress, we bought temper pedic and my husband loves it and I don’t (but we kept it anyway).

  • Sheaffer Sims January 5, 2017 at 5:53 am

Yep. We were at the ranch for New Years, and I got home and had like 2 pics. FAIL. LOVING Madeley’s new do!!!!

  • Kelly January 5, 2017 at 5:54 am

I just looked at the sweater your mom bought you… the buttons up the back are a great Addition!!

  • Annie January 5, 2017 at 6:01 am

Hi Shay I absolutely ADORE your sweet family. In regards to the canvas pictures, I was curious as to what you do with the old ones when you put up new ones and how you store the old ones. I’m sure they could take up a lot of room if they aren’t stored properly! Thanks so much for sharing your life with us

    • Mix and Match Mama January 5, 2017 at 6:48 am

I put them on a big wall down a hallway! 🙂

  • Narci January 5, 2017 at 6:12 am

Well, the pictures in your kitchen just made my day! Sounds like your life lately has been pretty great! The pic of y’all from Christmas Eve is darling!

  • Sarah January 5, 2017 at 6:25 am

Love the sweater!! I’m the same way with photos – sometimes I take a TON and other times I won’t take any for a few days. Hope you have a great day!!!

  • Lori Reggio January 5, 2017 at 6:31 am

Hi Shay, My husband and I had pillow top but it needed replacing….we bought temperpedic and did the trial….NG….kept it for 2 weeks with no sleep! we now have the Sleep Number and i just said to my husband last night how much I love our bed!! we’ve had it for one year. Highly recommend!!

  • Amy January 5, 2017 at 6:49 am

Can you send a link or give me the name of your Gray booties and assume And where you got them. Thanks

    • Mix and Match Mama January 5, 2017 at 7:11 am

They’re from Nordstrom! I believe they’re Vince Camuto!

  • ELO January 5, 2017 at 7:00 am

So 2 things about the Tempurpedic- one is you may need a different pillow. I always had a standard pillow with pillowtop mattresses, but apparently it creates a weird angle for your neck on memory foam. Maybe try a memory foam pillow to see if that helps? Also, you may just not like it 🙂 We had one for about 3 years (I woke up with a sore back the whole time) and just went back to a pillowtop hybrid (thank you stomach bug and kids who gravitate to mom and dad’s bed when they get sick :0)

  • Jess Deisher January 5, 2017 at 7:10 am

Your family is just so precious. Can’t wait to follow along in 2017. Happy New Year Shay!!

  • Sarah January 5, 2017 at 7:17 am

Once you start One Tree Hill there’s no way to stop! Such a great show! Looks like y’all had a wonderful Christmas break!

  • Lesley McFarland January 5, 2017 at 7:20 am

No pics means the shull’s were enjoying some low key family time….and momma some one tree hill….all the praise hands here????????????????????????

  • Brooke January 5, 2017 at 7:21 am

It took some time for me to love our tempurpedic, but now I can’t imagine sleeping on anything else. The salesperson suggested letting the kids jump on it for the first little while to break it in.

  • Lizzie @ This Happy Life January 5, 2017 at 7:28 am

Ha ha I know exactly what you mean – I had the same problem when I was binge watching gilmore girls!! You’re making me kind of want to watch OTH over again, it’s been years since I’ve seen it. Love that cream sweater with the green scarf, great combo!

  • Gretchen January 5, 2017 at 7:54 am

We bought a Tempur-Pedic in 2012. I hated it for about 4 years. Then last year we remembered that it was adjustable (ummm, duh, we paid extra for that) so we started messing with the head height & foot height until we found a setting that was perfect. Now I love it. So if you got an adjustable mattress, do, do, do adjust it!

  • Susan January 5, 2017 at 8:00 am

We bought a temperpedic two years ago. We had it for a month. We didn’t like it at all.We ended up exchanging it and we are soooo much happier now. We ended up with a Stearns and Foster Hybrid April Rose Plush Mattress.

  • Begina January 5, 2017 at 8:07 am

Love your new sweater!!! What size did you get?

    • Mix and Match Mama January 5, 2017 at 8:23 am

  • JoAnn Shearer January 5, 2017 at 8:09 am

We’ve had a tempur-pedic mattress for about 2 years and my husband has hated it from day one. He says it hurts his back and makes him hot. I love it! But I think I’m going to have to give it up. As long as I have my tempur-pedic pillow, though, I’ll be ok!

  • Angie McClung January 5, 2017 at 8:30 am

Hi Shay! I love the sweater from your mom! Can you also share where your jeans are from? I’ve been looking for a pair of cute (and comfortable) distressed skinny jeans but don’t know where to start! I love, love, LOVE reading your blog posts every day. In fact, grabbing a cup of coffee and opening my Mix & Match Mama email is the highlight of my morning! ♥

  • Deidre Hopkins January 5, 2017 at 8:42 am

We have a Tempur-Pedic and I felt the same way you do when we got ours. For about a week I felt as if I had been ran over by a truck…everything hurt when I got up of a morning. My husband loved it from day one, no issues. However, it took me about a week and half to two weeks to get used to it. Now, I love our bed. My BFF and her husband got one as well – she had the same experience I did. They almost returned theirs but held off – now they are so glad they kept it. They love it.

  • Carey January 5, 2017 at 8:43 am

We have had a tempur-pedic for about 5 years and I still hate it. 🙂 My husband loves it though. I would prob do sleep number next time.

  • Jen January 5, 2017 at 8:49 am

Love this!! I enjoy reading your blog every day!! Do you mind sharing what kind of jeans you are wearing with the sweater?! They look amazing!!

    • Mix and Match Mama January 5, 2017 at 12:37 pm

      AG 🙂

  • Lori January 5, 2017 at 9:01 am

We got a Tempurpedic when I was pregnant with our 2nd child.. I didn’t love it, but thought maybe after he was born and I wasn’t so uncomfortable it would be different. Nope! I eventually got used to it, but still napped on the pillowtop in the guest room when I could 😉

  • Stephanie January 5, 2017 at 9:04 am

Where is your black winter jacket from and the brand?

    • Mix and Match Mama January 5, 2017 at 12:37 pm

      It’s Burberry!

  • Ella January 5, 2017 at 9:05 am

It’s amazing how you have the current photos already up.
And, if I ever wonder where you got your clothes, the answer is Nordstrom. Where do you get the girls’ red dresses?

    • Mix and Match Mama January 5, 2017 at 12:37 pm

      Janie and Jack 🙂

  • Annie January 5, 2017 at 9:08 am

Hi! Love love love your blog! I had a question for you, what do you do with your old canvas photos? It looks like you update them every year, so where do the old ones go from years prior? Also, could you let us know what you got for Christmas? And what the kids got? It’s always fun sharing that, don’t you think?! xoxo

  • Victoria January 5, 2017 at 9:23 am

We bought a temper-pedic in 2013 with a similar initial response. I hated it and thought it was WAY too hard and hot. My husband loved it. A friend suggested to “break it in” by jumping on it. I’m sure the kids would love helping with that! After about a month, it was perfect and I honestly can’t imagine sleeping on anything else. When we stay in hotels or with my parents, we can’t wait to get back home to our bed.

  • Serena Welch January 5, 2017 at 9:28 am

We just recently purchased a Tempur-pedic as well and LOVE IT. I think the hardest decision is knowing which one to buy that fits your needs. We were very overwhelmed with this process! We wanted support since our pillow-top was super soft BUT we didn’t want to lay on a brick at night either. So, we decided on the Cloud Luxe Breeze – great support but still soft. And, it has the cooling gel so it helps to regulate your body temperture. It’s been great, we really love it and our quality of sleep has greatly improved.

  • Jenny S. January 5, 2017 at 9:33 am

I am trying to find your quick ice cream recipe….I think you posted it this summer after getting a small, counter top ice cream maker. It was the vanilla base that you could then add candy to. Thanks in advance if you have the time to reply!

  • Mandi S January 5, 2017 at 9:34 am

Why do the clothes at Nordstrom not look very flattering on the website but when you try them on they are actually all super cute! Love the sweater

  • Lisa Richardson January 5, 2017 at 9:35 am

Well I don’t have an opinion on the Tempur-pedic, but I can tell you we got a Sleep Number several years ago and it’s been a huge disappointment 🙁 Madeley’s new do totally makes me think of the little girl in “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” 🙂

  • Lisa Richardson January 5, 2017 at 9:39 am

Oh yeah, I knew there was one more thing I was going to comment on…One Tree Hill. My daughter is home on break from college and watching it AGAIN, so that means I’m watching it AGAIN. We are currently up to the season where Peyton’s “brother” shows up….WHAT A CREEP!!! Man-o-man is it easy to get sucked in and let your whole day be spent in Tree Hill 😉

  • Angie McClung January 5, 2017 at 9:41 am

Hi Shay! I love the sweater from your mom; so cute! Would you mind sharing where your jeans are from? I’ve been on the hunt for a pair of cute, distressed skinny jeans but haven’t found a nice quality, comfortable pair.

I love, love, LOVE reading your blog every morning. In fact, grabbing a cup of coffee and opening my Mix & Match Mama email may be the highlight of my morning! ♥

    • Mix and Match Mama January 5, 2017 at 12:36 pm

They are AG brand from Nordstrom. Thank you so much for your sweet comment!

  • Kimberly Penson January 5, 2017 at 9:46 am

Buy sweater. Check. Thanks for sharing. Loved your dress on Fox and Friends. Happy new year.

  • Grace January 5, 2017 at 9:56 am

Your fam is precious! I was not a fan of sleep number despite being able to adjust firmness, however tempur pedic has that too & we love it. (Ps we both side/stomach sleep) My parents were disappointed with their hybrid so we skipped that one too (after me sleeping on it for a week at their house!;) I only wish I would have gotten the base adjustable too so I can sit up in bed without propping with pillows! Ha #oldlady

  • Angela Ellingson January 5, 2017 at 9:56 am

The Christmas Eve family photo is STUNNING! 🙂 Loved the “four type-A people building a gingerbread house” comment. Hilarious.

  • Jill Archer January 5, 2017 at 10:11 am

Funny story about One Tree Hill…my daughter has been binge watching it since Thanksgiving and just finished it before school started up again this past Tuesday…during winter break, we went to the movies (we live in Thousand Oaks, CA) and she spotted Barbara Alyn Woods who plays “Deb” in the restroom. Turns out, she was sitting right next to us in our row! After the movie, my daughter asked her for a photo. She was so sweet, so beautiful, and seemed tickled to be recognized. She also couldn’t believe my girl blasted through 9 seasons so quickly. Neither could I!

  • Aubrey January 5, 2017 at 10:26 am

Love that gingerbread house caption! I declared Annie the BOSS and made Ella and Kate do whatever she said. It was awesomely uncomfortable and absolutely hilarious!

  • Melanie S January 5, 2017 at 10:46 am

All I got from this is-
    1. your kids are just the cutest. I want them all!!!!
And 2. ONE TREE HILL!!!!!!!! Freaking amazing!

  • Amanda @ Cupcake N Dreams January 5, 2017 at 11:18 am

I love the canvases! They look great. I also laugh at the being a great parent/watching one tree hill on phone parts lol! I’m glad other people get stuff on Netflix through out the week too????

  • Stacey January 5, 2017 at 11:42 am

Beautiful family photos! I just love reading your blog 🙂 Also, you got me hooked on One Tree Hill! I could not. stop. watching. Just finished the series, now I need something new!

    • Mix and Match Mama January 5, 2017 at 12:35 pm

I’m so jealous! I’m only on season six!!!

  • Ashley January 5, 2017 at 11:48 am

So I love canvases and have a few but I’ve been thinking lately about changing them out but what do you do with your old canvases? They aren’t like pictures that you can place in a picture box when you change it out of the frame. I’m trying to be mindful of what I bring in and decorate the house with and in the end I don’t want it to be something that ends up in closet somewhere.

    • Mix and Match Mama January 5, 2017 at 12:35 pm

I have this one big wall in a hallway and they’re on that wall (like a gallery 🙂 ).

  • Amanda Meredith January 5, 2017 at 12:16 pm

Hi Shay! Love your blog! My husband and I got a Tempur-Pedic Rhapsody Breeze. Our salesperson told us to have our kids walk on the mattress were our shoulders and hips would be. We did that and it still took 2 weeks to break it in and now I LOVE it! I will never go back to a pillow top. My sister has a sleep number and they love it. So maybe that can be an option.

  • Pamela January 5, 2017 at 12:28 pm

My husband loved our temper-pedic cloud from day one. It took me a month to get used to it. I’ve had back surgery and this is the only bed that I wake up free of any stiffness or pain. We’ve had our bed for six years and feel it is well worth it!

  • Jessica Kristiansen January 5, 2017 at 12:30 pm

Stick with the mattress! The first night, I woke up and felt terrible but after a few nights, I don’t even notice the memory foam any more and sleep great. It’s definitely worth it!

  • Meg January 5, 2017 at 12:34 pm

Love your eyeliner in the first picture. Could you let us know what brand and color? Thanks!

    • Mix and Match Mama January 5, 2017 at 12:34 pm

I always use Bobbi Brown’s Chocolate Truffle :).

  • Lindsay @ Lindsay's Sweet World January 5, 2017 at 1:04 pm

I love your life lately posts. They are always some of my favorites! Happy 2017, Shay!

  • Farryn Bussa January 5, 2017 at 1:11 pm

We have a tempur-pedic mattress as well. My husband also loved it immeadiatley, while it took me several weeks to get used to. You WILL fall in love and wil then hate hotel mattresses from now on. Give it some time .

  • Megan Butler January 5, 2017 at 1:27 pm

I’m loving your new canvases!!!!!! Your wall was meant for 4!!!!

  • Hillary January 5, 2017 at 2:19 pm

Hey shay! Love your blog! You and your family are so beautiful! Just wanted to share a tip about the mattress. We too thought our temper pedic was to firm even after a few months so I bought a plush mattress topper to go on top of it. Made it much more comfortable. It’s been a couple years so I can’t remember what kind I got but I believe I got it off of amazon. It’s more comfortable but I would not buy another temper pedic! not worth the money! And I agree with what someone else said about playing with different pillows. I just ordered the My Pillow and hope I love it! Happy new year and sweet dreams 🙂

  • Jenn January 5, 2017 at 2:57 pm

Totally random but I’m going on a cruise to the Caribbean. Do you have a bag/purse that you would recommend while off the boat??? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Missy January 5, 2017 at 3:19 pm

Love the canvases!! Do you order them online? If so , who do you use?

    • Mix and Match Mama January 6, 2017 at 4:41 am

      Yes! I use 🙂

  • Meg January 5, 2017 at 4:03 pm

We have had a tempur-pedic for about 3 years and absolutely love it! It does take a few weeks to soften up but I will never go back and it has spoiled me forever, now hotel beds are uncomfortable.

  • Patty January 5, 2017 at 4:40 pm

We got used to our Tempur Pedic quickly and LOVED it…and then I hit that stage of life where being warm isn’t fun anymore. Seriously, we waited a LONG time to splurge on our mattress, but less than 2 years after getting it I now dislike it a lot. Talk about serious hot flashes! BUT…you have a long way to go and if you can get used to the support of such a firm mattress, you’ll get your money’s worth long before you’re my age!

  • Heather January 5, 2017 at 6:08 pm

So we have the Tempur-Cloud Elite. It took a little over a month and a half to fully break it in. Most of their reps suggest 90 days and it took us about half that. We often prescribe them to patients with sever back issues. I can think of one person in all the years of my husbands practice that has returned theirs. Tempurpedic returned the mattress and frame for a full refund-it was over a year after purchase. They really stand behind their product! I won’t use any other brand after that.

  • Rhonda Smith January 5, 2017 at 6:11 pm

I just love your blog! Such joy. love, and kindness you show to all. I love the canvas pictures and want to order some of our kiddos. What sizes do you have displayed on your wall?

    • Mix and Match Mama January 6, 2017 at 4:39 am

      Mine are all 16×20!

  • Ruth Fries January 5, 2017 at 9:25 pm

One Tree Hill is an obsession of mine too!
Also-I attempted to follow an old book recommendation of yours-I’ve been on the hunt for faith-centered books and remembered an older post of yours that had some listed. I got Bringing Up Girls and Raising a Princess. I also looked for A Case for Christ/Faith and found that Lee Strobel has a newer one out–A Case for Grace. So far I’ve only read two chapters but it is AMAZING! You should add it to your to-read list! If you have any other recommendations that you haven’t posted yet, I would love to hear them!

  • Carol January 5, 2017 at 9:55 pm

We slept on Tempur-pedic for three months…HATED IT. Felt like I was sleeping on a combo of apple sauce and foam rubber.
Went back to my high end Foster-Stearns….LOVE IT.

  • Holly Hopkins January 6, 2017 at 6:24 am

Love my memory foam mattress in firm from ikea! Love these kind of posts! Such a sweet family. That sweater with the buttons on the back need it!

  • Kasey January 6, 2017 at 10:33 am

I’ve had a Tempur-Pedic for almost a year and I love it now, but I absolutely hated it at first. I even went back to the store and tried other mattresses, because I didn’t think I could keep it. They told me to give it more time, because it takes a while to break in. It took several months to get used to it, and I could never go back now!

  • Hayli January 6, 2017 at 1:13 pm

The sweater looks adorable on you, much cuter than website pictures! & madeley in that pic (*heart eyes!)

  • Kaytlin January 6, 2017 at 1:15 pm

At first, I did not love our tempurpedic. It retained so much heat and I was burning up in my sleep (when I’m usually the person who is always cold!) We put a mattress cover on it to allow some air flow in between, and now, the only good sleep I ever get is on a tempurpedic! We put a tempurpedic mattress topper on our daughter’s bed, and she loves it and so do family who visit during the holidays and stay the night in her room.

  • Pam Burke January 7, 2017 at 4:43 pm

This post was ADORBS all around – your captions, the pictures (obviously), and all your outfits – Happy New Year!

  • Jillian Sasistella January 7, 2017 at 7:12 pm

Do you do anything for your undereye wrinkles?? This mama would LOVE some recommendations for any solid product!!

    • Mix and Match Mama January 8, 2017 at 4:37 am

      Rodan+Fields eye cream!

  • Rhonda January 7, 2017 at 9:47 pm

We just got the Temperpedic about a month ago. Our sales person said to walk on it in our socks the first few days to break it in. We did and now we love it! I sometimes feel colder on it so I use an extra blanket, but my husband loves the cool feel to the mattress. After you lay on it for a few minutes it adjusts to your body temperature. Give it more time, and walk on it in your socks! Hope you end up liking it!

  • Karen January 8, 2017 at 11:06 pm

Yes it will take a few weeks to get used to…..we’ve decided in our house we will NEVER own anything else. It’s so nice not to feel movement transfer ~ especially when kiddos crash your bed occasionally. The only down side we’ve found is ~ it’s hard to sleep away from home…

  • Dana January 13, 2017 at 6:18 pm

Hi Shay, do you happen to know the name of your LV cross body bag with the black flap? I love it!
