Tuesday Talk: Verse of the week!

Today is Tuesday Talk where once a month, I link up with Ashley and Erika who host this fun little blog link up.  Every month, you are supposed to chat about anything and everything.

In January, we chatted about whether or not I should keep my home phone.  (You overwhelmingly told me TO keep it!)

In February, we chatted about preparing for sitters at your house.

In April, we chatted about a book I read called Unstuffed.

In May, we chatted about what TV shows are good for kiddos.

In July, we chatted about bows and clothes for little girls.

In August, we chatted about whether or not I should get an e-reader (Whoa!  Lots of opinions!!)

In September, I showed you guys my sign wall.

In November, we chatted about Instant Pots.

In December, we chatted about books you might want to get for the new year.

And today, my verse of the week.

Last week, I told you guys that one of my New Year’s resolutions was to memorize a verse each week.  I thought many of you might want to memorize some verses too, so at some point each week, I’m going to publish my verse of the week here and on Facebook  and we can memorize them together this year.

Last week, this was my verse…

…which has always been one of my favorites, but I don’t know that I’ve really committed it to memory.  So, last week, I did.  This verse always reminds me about my road to motherhood which coincidentally all began ten years ago TODAY.

For those of you who have been reading my blog for a long time, then you’ve already heard this story…but for those of you who are fairly new, I thought I’d share.  You can read my post on infertility HERE to get the whole picture, but basically after a lot of trying to get pregnant, one miscarriage and six failed IUIs, I decided to take a break from all of the drugs and fertility procedures (hello, overly hormonal Shay!) and enjoy the holiday season instead of focusing so much on trying to get pregnant.  Then, we kicked off 2008 by telling our doctor we were ready to proceed with IVF, we filled out all of the paperwork, we paid the first installment and my doctor told me to begin the drugs to get the ball rolling.  She always had me take a pregnancy test before beginning any fertility drugs, so that day at work, I took a test so that I could start my meds and BAM.  I was somehow pregnant 🙂 .

So, every year when the calendar hits January 16, I always think about that.  I, of course, wasn’t super confident in this pregnancy at the beginning because of my previous miscarriage, but God kept giving me a peace that this was going to be different.  Little did I know what my road to motherhood would look like.  All of those days I cried over becoming a mom, I never in a million years saw it ending up like this…

So, I love this verse and hope it’s one you commit to memory too.  For this week, I selected this verse…

I am just randomly picking verses here and there, but hopefully, they’re ones you want to memorize as well.

So, that wraps up the first Tuesday Talk of 2018!  Have a wonderful Tuesday! xo

You might have said this before, but do you use an app for your versus?

    • Mix and Match Mama January 16, 2018 at 5:29 am

No, I’m just pulling them from my daily quiet times.

    • Crista January 19, 2018 at 5:48 pm

I’ve been using Scripture Typer for the last three years. I always thought I’d be a colored-pencil-on-notecard girl, but I love this app. I’m stunned at how many verses God has put in my memory! I never thought I’d be able to do it. To date, I have 130!

  • Elspeth Mizner January 16, 2018 at 5:34 am

Great Bible verse and so relatable! Love it!

  • Deanna Zehr January 16, 2018 at 5:41 am

I can’t wait to memorize with all of you! Thanks for sharing with us!

  • Laura January 16, 2018 at 6:01 am

What a timely post for me today. Thank you.

  • jamie January 16, 2018 at 6:04 am

love those verses. and the words {i don’t know that i’ve really committed it to my memory} spoke to my spirit. my very favorite verse for the past few years has been zephaniah 3:17. but i have not committed it to my memory. thank you for inspiring and being an example.

  • Narci Dreffs January 16, 2018 at 6:29 am

Great idea, friend! I’ll memorize them too! And, such a sweet post! Each of those pics with your kids slays me. So adorable! Xo ❤️❤️

  • Erika Slaughter January 16, 2018 at 6:42 am

LOVE this!! Thank you for sharing and linking up! That one year I did that Beth Moore two verses a month but I think I’ve forgotten a ton of them. I need to recommit those to memory!

  • Julie Bogle January 16, 2018 at 6:49 am

This year Shay, I am using the Prayerful Planner, and it has you pick a verse that will be your theme verse for the year. I chose Psalm 63:3, and you have inspired me to commit it to memory now. These prayerful planners are great for Mamas to be able to be guided to create grace goals, daily prayer journal and more.

  • Alexis deZayas January 16, 2018 at 6:59 am

I love this idea Shay!! Mine this week is “Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7

  • Amanda @ Cupcake N Dreams January 16, 2018 at 7:09 am

These verses are so beautiful! I like the idea of memorizing so you can repeat them to yourself in moments you need them. I usually say a prayer, but a specific verse would be nice too. Love seeing all those pics of how you became a mom!

I haven’t missed a day!! And I honestly think I feel AMAZING! I really and truly do! Thank you so much for asking, Amanda!!

  • Laura @ Fantastically Four January 16, 2018 at 7:30 am

Love this, Shay! I’m memorizing a verse a month because it’s a little more feasible for me. 😁 The verses you’ve chosen are beautiful. Love your stories of God’s faithfulness in growing your family! 💗

  • Carolyn January 16, 2018 at 7:48 am

How strong of you to share your story with us all.

No doubt you are truly helping many women who read your blog- to not feel so alone. I appreciate your honesty, and love your story <3

  • Jillian Baker January 16, 2018 at 8:05 am

I’m surprised you’ve chosen a verse from the Catholic Bible. You don’t see that very often. Good luck with your goals this year!

    • Mix and Match Mama January 16, 2018 at 8:12 am

I chose one from the Bible Bible. It’s from just a standard Bible in the book of Habakkuk (one of my favorite little books).

  • Erinn January 16, 2018 at 8:07 am

I just love this! Thank you for adding a verse to memorize to your blog, you inspire me and make me better in so many ways!

  • cassie {hi sugarplum} January 16, 2018 at 8:18 am

I just love reading about your motherhood journey and seeing those precious faces!!!

  • Keisha Dawson January 16, 2018 at 8:30 am

Thank you for sharing your weekly verse! I wanted to do a weekly verse and hang it on my bathroom mirror. I’m going to be “stealing” yours. THANK YOU!

  • Jenna January 16, 2018 at 8:52 am

Love this post so much Shay, so simple yet so full. I love seeing people’s roads to motherhood, it is truly different and special for everyone! So much encouragement here, thank you!

  • Whitney Pegram January 16, 2018 at 8:56 am

Oh I love this post so much! After a late miscarriage in 2016, we are 9 weeks away from meeting baby number 4!! God is SO good!

  • Lauren January 16, 2018 at 9:00 am

Beautiful verse, Shay! Thanks for sharing. I’ve been praying Provers 31:26 for Ashby.

  • Alison Trauger January 16, 2018 at 9:06 am

That’s perfect, a verse I needed to hear today. I love God’s subtle ways of letting us know He’s present. Thanks Shay, for being His messenger today. 🙂

  • Erin January 16, 2018 at 9:12 am

It’s a good day for finding out about pregnancies! I found out I’m pregnant this morning after a miscarriage in October. I have one daughter who followed two miscarriages, so I’m cautiously optimistic this one will “stick”, 🙂

    • Mix and Match Mama January 16, 2018 at 12:37 pm

Praying for you right now, Erin!!! I’m excited for you (but completely understand your reservations!!). xo

  • Sheaffer Sims January 16, 2018 at 9:16 am

I have several favorite memorized versus, but I too need to commit to memorizing more. Sweet post about all of your kiddos!

  • Kacy Mah January 16, 2018 at 9:19 am

Love verse of the week! Remind all me of Sunday school haha. God bless!

  • Julie January 16, 2018 at 9:32 am

    Hi Shay,

Thanks for sharing these verses. Where do you find these verses?

I just purchased Jesus Calling and am really enjoying it.

    • Mix and Match Mama January 16, 2018 at 12:37 pm

These both just came from my scripture reading over the last two weeks.

  • Gabby Roberts January 16, 2018 at 9:37 am

Every time you share your story and then I see a picture of your 4 sweet kiddos, it absolutely wrecks me to pieces! It’s a reminder in the trenches of my infertility struggle that God is faithful and to continue to cling to Him and not lose hope. So thank you for being obedient and open to share your story. God has used you to encourage me and so many women.

On a totally different subject, I just finished reading a book and I couldn’t help but think of you! The book is called “P.S. From Paris” by Marc Levy. You’ve probably already read it but on the off chance that you haven’t, I wanted to share because you have to read it! It was a quick, easy but oh so delightful, funny and charming book!

  • kellie carrara January 16, 2018 at 9:44 am

Oh I just love this for so many reasons! I struggled too, and had 2 miscarriages…but God helped me through and gave me my miracle! In the depths of darkness (and those were DARK days for me) He is with us.

  • Erin riggs January 16, 2018 at 10:05 am

So awesome!! I love Jeremiah 33:3 “Call to me,and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know “

  • Jeanine January 16, 2018 at 10:08 am

The verse from Habakkuk must be great when things work out and you are able to make sense of it all. As a 40 year old single woman who has desperately longed for a husband and family, it is hard to feel that God is working things together for good when your heart is continuously breaking. I want to believe these verses to be true but it is so hard.

    • Mix and Match Mama January 16, 2018 at 12:38 pm

I’m sorry, Jeanine. I wish I had some magical answers to make things better. I’m praying for you right now. xo

  • Anna S January 16, 2018 at 10:09 am

I love that you shared this today. Even though it won’t be for every Tuesday Talk, it would be great if you shared these every so often. 🙂

  • Sarah January 16, 2018 at 10:47 am

Hi Shay. Off topic but then again, its “Lets talk Tuesday” Ha! Pls can you do a post on how you spend quality time with each of your kiddos? With 4 different ages and personalities/interests, I can only imagine how you spend daily and weekly 1on1 time with each. Ideas on what/when you do something and if the other 3 is then with a nanny or Andrew? Thank SO much. Xo

  • Shelby Bourgeois January 16, 2018 at 11:43 am

WOW, your verse of the day was exactly what I needed to read today *cue a stream of tears in my lunchroom*; some days we all need an extra reminder of just how good and powerful our God is. Thank you for turning my whole day around!

  • Kathy L January 16, 2018 at 11:55 am

So nice to be able to follow along and memorize the weekly Bible verses you’ve chosen. I’ve written both in my journal and will be working on them! I always enjoy reading about your journey to motherhood, and the pictures you shared are wonderful!

  • Kelly January 16, 2018 at 12:35 pm

I love Habakkuk, you are right it’s great little book:).

  • Alicia January 16, 2018 at 1:52 pm

My husband and I are currently in the middle of our infertility journey. With 3 miscarriages in 1 year (2017) it’s hard to be optimistic sometimes but we are hopeful for 2018. We have a new doctor and a new game plan and we’ve been trying to stick to daily prayers and devotionals as well. My favorite verse (and such a great reminder) right now is “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer” Romans 12:12.

Thank you for being so open about your journey, it is a source of comfort for people like me. I will never understand why the general topic of infertility and miscarriages are not openly talked about more.

    • Mix and Match Mama January 17, 2018 at 5:27 am

I am so sorry, Alicia. I’m stopping to pray for you and your husband right now.

  • Tracy January 16, 2018 at 4:24 pm

I love this! Would you consider posting your verses on Instagram each week for those of us that might want to join you? (Maybe you’re already doing that and I’m just behind on things.) 🙂

    • Mix and Match Mama January 17, 2018 at 5:26 am

Yes! I can do that too!!

  • Kelley January 16, 2018 at 10:04 pm

Love hearing your story. I have endometriosis so issues with fertility is something im worried about too. Thank you for keeping my head up!

  • Angela Ellingson January 16, 2018 at 11:46 pm

Love this! I want to memorize more scripture, too. Thanks for the encouragement.

  • Angelique January 17, 2018 at 1:29 am

We lost our cat a week ago and I feel like my spirit has been broken, realizing he’s probably not coming back. I love how God can continue to show you his presence and lift your spirits when going through tough times like the one I’m in right now. My pastor talked about a missing pet on Sunday and your verse today really speaks to my needs. Thank you for sharing. 🙂

    • Mix and Match Mama January 17, 2018 at 5:26 am

Oh Angelique! This breaks my heart. My prayer right now is that he’s safe and finds his way home.

  • Kimberly January 17, 2018 at 8:59 am

I love reading your blog and try to keep up on the posts as you write them. Yesterday though the kiddos decided not to nap (when I take my quiet “me time”) so I’m just now getting to this one. And it is no coincidence that I am! 5 years ago today I had a D & C after finding out I had miscarried. I don’t know about you and your journey but, even trying not to think about it the entire day, subconsciously I am always very aware of this day. And then 2 years ago today our family dog was hit on the road. I loved the verse from Habakkuk when I read it, and then I came to your verse from Psalm and man! — does that one really hit it out of the park for today!
Thank you, as always, for sharing!

  • Sara January 17, 2018 at 1:15 pm

I’ve never personally felt called to adopt but the pictures of you with Ashby and Madeley bring tears to my eyes. I know you’ve said the same thing many times but I hope God has given their birth mothers a sign that they are safe and loved beyond measure.

  • Erin Port January 17, 2018 at 3:48 pm

This is one of my favorites to share and remember when I or others I am ministering to are going through a hard time. He is SO close to us and loves us so much! xoxo ERIN

  • Jill Peterson January 18, 2018 at 8:47 am

I Adore how your posts are fun and entertaining! BUT, what I love the most is that you always point us back to our Savior…
