Valentine’s Weekend

Happy Monday, friends!

My kiddos are off from school today, and the five of us have some big plans! #ijustloveaholidaymonday

Today’s post has a little bit of everything…but it’s all about the kids.  Over the weekend, we had our Family Valentine Dance at the big kids’ school.  This is always one of our favorite things to do…and Miss Ashby LOVES going, so we all kind of held our breath and hoped she was able to attend.  Plus, Nordstrom reached out to me and asked if I would talk about kids stuff today and since I pretty much do that every day, it was easy to accept (and they’re my FAVORITE place to buy shoes and clothes for kids because of their amazing return policy and customer service!!).  Last week in particular, I had so many comments on my Week in the Life post about my little girls’ shoes, so that was an easy place to start.  You ladies were asking about these…

…and friends, THEY’RE GO WALKS!

You know how I always talk about Go Walks for me (the world’s comfiest shoe that I swear you must take with you on any vacation where any sort of walking is involved)…well, they make a kid version too.  My girls are obsessed with theirs.  They love them because they’re comfy and cute, but I love them because THEY CAN PUT THEM ON BY THEMSELVES!  (And all the mamas of small children said AMEN!)  At my girls’ school, they have to wear sneaker type shoes, so these work for that too.  One last thing and then I’ll stop gushing…they machine wash easy peasy and then we let them air dry.  You can find Madeley’s HERE and Ashby’s color is sold out, but you can find a pink version HERE.  Speaking of shoes, you ladies know how much I love my girls’ wearing these…

…they’re Mini Melissa brand.  I’ve talked about these shoes for YEARS!  I love them because they’re cute enough to wear to dinner, church, school, the park…everywhere plus, I can just rinse them off if they get dirty, they don’t scuff up AND they smell like strawberry on the inside 🙂 .  Isn’t that funny?!  Plus, yet again, my two littles can put them on themselves.  #woohoo  You can see them HERE.  Ashby has multi glitter and Madeley has pink glitter.  Even Kensington wears the big girl version 🙂 .  Just for grins, here are some other shoes I love for girls…

…scroll and click.  There are some REALLY cute shoes right now at Nordstrom!

On Friday morning, Ashby was not doing well after her procedure, so my mama came up and picked up this one for the night…

…it’s a shame she wasn’t excited about going with Lovie 🙂 .  This way, she could play hard with the grandparents while I cuddled and loved on her big sister.  (And pssssst: since Ashby can’t wear long sleeves with her cast and sling, I bought them these short-sleeve dresses and leggings for the dance that night.  Madeley wanted to wear hers to Lovie’s house.)  I am pretty obsessed with everything Mini Boden 🙂 .

Ashby really wanted to go to the dance, and after a nap, a bath, and 5 pigs in a blanket she felt ready to go.  Sweet girl!!

First stop, our annual pizza dinner with the Slaughters before we went to the dance.

When you ask two second grade boys to smile.

These five big kids watching the pizza get made.

After a yummy pizza dinner, we went to the dance.  This year’s theme…black light!

Hahahahaha!  It was such a fun idea!!

Ashby was doing pretty good.  I think she was trying to be in the moment, but didn’t feel like herself.  After 45 minutes, she asked me to take her home, so I did (and then Andrew and K stayed and walked home).

They were passing out glow sticks and adding glow in the dark paint to people’s faces too.

I just love doing life with Erika and her family!!

Ashby and Bowen are so excited to go to school here next year!

These two girls!!!  They’re getting so BIG!!!  They were having the BEST TIME!

They got some neon paint on their face and were VERY happy about it 🙂 .

For a quick minute, the lights came on and we watched the fifth graders square dance…ha!

Do you see our girls dancing?  They were having a BLAST!!  It was such a fun family night.  We love our school so much :).

So, that’s it for today.  Now, I’m off to spend the day with my kiddos.  One more thing before we go…

GREEN//PAISLEY//GINGHAM

…I found these swimsuits for my littles at Nordstrom and went ahead and got them for summer.  I always buy two piece swimsuits because it’s so much easier to take a kid potty when they have on two pieces.  It only took me like 8 years of motherhood to figure that out 😉 .

See you tomorrow, friends! xo

Madeley and Ashby’s shoes are so cute!! Is it weird that bathing suit shopping is making me happy because it feels like summer is that much closer?!

That dance looks like so much fun! When our oldest was in 5th grade I was on the banquet committee and they chose a blackout theme as well. It was so fun to get all the decor and activities together and it turned out way cuter than I could have imagined. I’m glad Ashby felt well enough to go…even for a bit. I hope she’s feeling more like herself soon!

    Great post! Such fun photos.

Would you blog sometime about the kids’ school? We are in the process of deciding where we’ll send our oldest this fall, and there are so many factors to consider. I’d love to hear what your thoughts on what matters most about a school, how a parent can enhance a child’s experience there, etc. I’m guessing there’s a private, faith-based school in the area too where Andrea works/sends her kids? Did you ever consider that one? Uniforms seem like such a plus.

    Thanks for all you do!

Genius Tip!!! On the bath suit for going to the bathroom. I would of never thought of that either, I was always no I want you in one piece and stay a baby forever :(. But that just makes it so much easier. Two pieces for us this summer. Thanks for sharing this great tip.

Hope Ashby feels better during your special day off together. Still sending lots of prayers her way!

  • Angela Ellingson February 19, 2018 at 1:26 pm

Praying Ashby is feeling better each day and that her latest procedure was successful. Love that the kids’ school does a dance for the whole family!

  • Crystal February 19, 2018 at 4:41 pm

Continued prayers for your sweet Ashly girl… she is SO TOUGH! Totally MY hero!- I definitely want to be just like her when I grow up 🙂
Love the idea of black lights for the dance. How creative & fun for everyone-
Can I ask where Andrew’s jacket is from or if you have any more details/link? I don’t recall seeing it before & think my DH would love it!
    Thanks-

    • Mix and Match Mama February 20, 2018 at 5:23 am

He bought it this time last year at Burberry. And thank you so much for the prayers. You have no idea how much they mean to me. xo

      • Crystal February 23, 2018 at 6:19 am

Thanks for the jacket info. My DH will LOVE it & he is tough to buy for sometimes- (all the time really! Men 😉
I was so glad to see that Ashly got to go to the dance too, even if just for a bit.
I’ve told a lot of people about just how tough & brave that girl of yours is. I agree with you, God has BIG PLANS in store for her life…She is such a living demonstration of strength & grace in the face of adversity. Thinking about it just gives me goosebumps… Ah! I just love it when you can see God at work & there’s no denying that he has had his hands in someone’s life. It’s no mistake that you all are her family- that is for sure!
Prayers for her (& you all) as well 🙂

  • Karah Stracener February 19, 2018 at 5:05 pm

I hope Ashby is recovering. Continued prayers for her. We love mini melissa shoes and those sketchedr shoes. They are our favorites around here too. The dance looked like so much fun!!!

  • Lauren February 19, 2018 at 6:23 pm

Last year, Target (cat & jack) had some one pieces with the snaps in the crotch in the smaller kid sizes. I’m hoping they have some again this year – 2 year old bellies make it hard for the top to stay down!

  • Liz THORSON February 19, 2018 at 6:54 pm

The picture of sweet Ashby at home, before pizza and the dance, broke my heart for her. She looked so pale and fragile. What a trooper to rally for one of her favorite nights! I’m glad she was able to go and make some memories. I hope her pain is easing up a bit?! I bet Madeley had such fun with your parents! Lovie and Papa a Jay seem to adore spending time with their grands!❤️

  • Whitney Pegram February 19, 2018 at 8:17 pm

We LOVE our Mini Melissa’s & I’m pretty sure we need those cute tennis shoes!! 😍 Prayers that Ashby is feeling much better!

  • Sonia February 20, 2018 at 7:21 am

Great pic of you and Erica at the Pizza shop…LOVED both of your lipstick colors!!

  • Jillian February 21, 2018 at 7:25 pm

I ordered a pair of the Melissa brand flats with Mickey Mouse head on the toe for myself (Not as cute as the mini’s with Mickey and Minnie kissing, but still cute) and if the kids are anything like mine they are incredibly comfy! They also did not have a weird breaking in period where my feet would kill me, so that is a plus! Hope little Ashby is feeling better!

  • Elisabeth Hogue February 22, 2018 at 7:48 am

Any suggestions for swimsuits for older girls? My daughter is almost 9 and finding cute suits is hard! Thanks!

    • Mix and Match Mama February 22, 2018 at 8:26 am

It is hard! We look at places like Boden, Old Navy and Gap.

  • Elisabeth Hogue February 22, 2018 at 7:53 am

Oh! And my husband has a similar coat – Barbour is the brand:)
Still praying for Ashby’s recovery and your mama’s heart
