Easter Weekend!

Whoa!

I had approximately 4 billion pics from our super fun Easter weekend, but I tried to narrow it down to only a handful today (I mean…there’s still a lot…maybe more like 1 billion).  We kicked off Good Friday with a bang and kept the celebrating going until Sunday night.  Sit back, relax, sip your coffee and reminisce with me…

We heated the pool on Friday so that the Slaughters could come over for a backyard party!  The kids swam, we grilled fajitas and enjoyed being outside from about 3 to 9.  It was SO MUCH FUN!

Lots of kids on one giant duck 🙂 .

On Saturday, we headed off to our church’s Easter Eggstravaganza!

They had food trucks, bounce houses, a petting zoo, face painting and so much more!  (Pssst: my dress is HERE and earrings are HERE)

Miss Ashby wanted her cheek painted…

…and looked adorable the rest of the day!

These two have a HUGE surprise waiting for them today.  You better hop over to Instagram and check it out…

See the smiles on the ride?

Everyone was having the best time!

Ashby can’t jump in bounce houses with other people her age/size because they could bump into her and/or knock her down.  Our sweeeet children’s minister said that Ashby could have a turn in the toddler house and that made her SO HAPPY!!

We stopped for snow cones…

…and then a massive egg hunt.

Andrew was certainly cheering on someone from the sidelines!

Sweaty, happy girls!

I get asked all the time one way to meet friends in your community and my answer is always CHURCH!!  When we moved to McKinney we knew NO ONE, but joining a church and getting involved with other families, has built this amazing community for my family.  Brooke, Narci, Meagan, Erika and Sheaffer all go to church with us.

This year, after Eggstravaganza, we did something we’ve never done before.  We went to Easter service on Saturday night!  Our church offered five service times for Easter (Saturday night and then four on Sunday), and the week before, our pastor asked the regular attenders if they would consider going to one of the less crowded services to make room for guests in the more crowded services.  So, we picked Saturday night AND LOVED IT!!  This is the very first year that I haven’t gone to church on Easter Sunday, but it was so much fun doing it Saturday night too.  So many of our friends did the same thing (because we all heard the pastor say the same thing), and it really made it special.

After our Easter service, we headed to…

…The Yard in McKinney for dinner with the Slaughters. We waited almost 2 hours for a table, but did not care one bit.  The weather was GORGEOUS and this restaurant has SO MANY fun things to do outside for kids and adults alike.  Everyone played hard and then enjoyed their dinner.  While we were eating dinner, Andrew asked when Britt would be old enough for a sleepover and you know what?  Her parents said that day!  So…

…these two girls had their very first sleepover!  By the time Britt got to our house, she was in her pjs, and it was late, so they cuddled in sleeping bags in our room and watched one show before going to bed.  The next morning, they slept until almost 9:00 and Andrew made them chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast!  Then, they played upstairs until it was time for her to go home.  The first of many sleepovers between these two.

This year, my family decided to celebrate Easter up our direction, so at noon, we met everyone at our country club for lunch before going back to my house for egg hunting and to celebrate Catherine’s birthday (a little early because she won’t be in town on her actual birthday)…

…my Easter peeps!

My Easter dress isn’t available in this print any longer, but you can find a gazillion other prints HERE…and, Smith would like the record to show that he’s not a fan of the color of his shorts 😉 .

They were so happy it was EASTER!  I was so happy because the weather was GORGEOUS!

All the Lowe grandkids 🙂 .

The kid table…please note Kensington’s face.  Hahaha!

When your cousin is two years younger and many inches taller.

After we ate lunch, we came home and…

…played!

Isaiah’s face has me cracking up!

In our family, the tradition is that the grandparents supply Easter baskets.  I have no idea who started this tradition, but my grandparents always did it for us and now, my mom and aunt do it for their grandkids.  My mom lovvvves an elaborate Easter basket…

…they’re always filled with everything from shoes to books, puzzles, stuffed animals, a little candy and more!

Ashby was SUPER pumped that her basket had stamps inside!

And each girl had a hairbrush inside with their names on it.  Like seriously, my mom goes above and beyond with these baskets and has set the bar REALLY high for when I’m a grandma.

We had two egg hunts.  One for the littles and one for the bigs.  (Penley and Madeley are both 4 and Cole and Samuel are both two.)

Off they went!

She was proud of her big muscles for carrying all of those eggs!

Here was our “baby section” 🙂 .  We have two little ones under one!

The big kids (and Frenchie) had to work hard for their eggs.  We hid them really well!

Sweet Ashby 🙂

Last pic I took of the day.  Later that afternoon, Catherine opened presents and we had cupcakes in her honor.

It was a fun, fabulous and full Easter weekend. xo

It’s very interesting to see how different religions celebrate Easter. We are Catholic and Good Friday is a day of fasting. We also do not eat meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday or any Friday of Lent. How long do your Easter church services last? I noticed the times for services at your church were close together. Our parking lots would be a disaster. Our church services on Easter day are just over an hour long. If we had gone to mass on Saturday night, it would have been more than two hours long.

    • Mix and Match Mama April 23, 2019 at 8:55 pm

Our typical Sunday morning service is like an hour and 15 minutes, but for Easter, it was 50 minutes. The parking lot was a disaster.

I enjoyed your pics! You guys don’t do an “Easter a bunny” tradition? Do the kids know that you guys hide the eggs and the grandparents do the baskets?

What a fun weekend. My kids are grown and no grand babies yet. Would you share where the tutu skirts are from? My niece wears a tutu of some sort everyday. They would be perfect for her. Your girls look adorable. Thanks in advance.

Your Easter looks like so much fun! How does the Easter bunny work at your house? Do the kids know the Easter baskets come from the grandparents? So curious how others handle the big bunny 🙂

    • Mix and Match Mama April 23, 2019 at 8:53 pm

They do! We don’t do the “Easter Bunny” which is weird bc we do everything else!

  • Lauren April 23, 2019 at 11:23 am

Hi shay! Just curious, do you not do the Easter bunny tradition? What do you tell your kids or how do you go about that?

    • Mix and Match Mama April 23, 2019 at 8:53 pm

We don’t. We do Santa, Tooth Fairy, etc, but I just could never get into the Easter bunny. They know it’s all parents/grandparents.

  • Rachael April 23, 2019 at 12:22 pm

  • Debbie Lang April 27, 2019 at 12:56 pm

I think the Easter baskets from grandparents is genius!!! They have more time and how fun to do it for the grands. I was never good with the whole pretend thing – Santa and Easter Bunny especially when the reason for those seasons are so much more. I focused on the biblical aspect, and the other was just extra but not over board.
