Description
I mean to tell you, HOW CUTE ARE THESE?! Aren’t they adorable?! Bonus…they taste delicious too! Here’s what I did, I combined my VALENTINE’S CHEX TREATS concept with my HEART SHAPED RICE KRISPIES TREATS and created the perfect little treat for the sweethearts in your life. And…because I added Honey Nut Chex to the mix, these are extra yummy. Enjoy! xx
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 cups Honey Nut Chex
- 3 cups Rice Krispies
- 1 (10 oz) bag of mini marshmallows
- 4 tablespoons of butter
- 8 to 10 oz of vanilla candy coating (found on the chocolate chip aisle)
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- pink food coloring, optional
- festive, seasonal sprinkles, optional
Instructions
- Line a 9×12 baking dish with foil and then spray down with Pam for easy removal of the bars. Set aside.
- In a large-sized baggie, add in your Honey Nut Chex cereal. Seal the bag and lightly crush the cereal (we use the back of a measuring cup). Don’t crush it too much, just crush them a bit so that most of the cereal pieces are broken.
- Pour broken cereal pieces into a large mixing bowl and then add your 3 cups of Rice Krispies cereal to the bowl too. Set aside.
- In a microwavable bowl, add in your marshmallows and butter. Place this bowl in the microwave and microwave until the marshmallows are melted (stopping every 30 seconds to stir). This will only take about a minute or so. As soon as your marshmallows and butter are melted, quickly pour this on top of the cereal in your bowl. Quickly combine everything and then pat it all down into your prepared baking dish. Pat everything flat and allow the bars to cool about 10 minutes before cutting into shapes and icing.
- Take your heart cookie cutter and punch out as many hearts as you can. Set them on a plate or waxed paper to be iced once you’re done.
- To make the icing on the top, take your vanilla candy coating and add it to a microwavable bowl along with your vegetable oil. Microwave until the candy coating is melted (again, stopping to stir every 30 seconds). This will take about 2 minutes or so. As soon as it’s melted, quickly add in a little pink food coloring (be quick!) and then spread this on top of your hearts and then top with festive sprinkles. Allow this to cool before serving and enjoying.
- When not enjoying, store these in an airtight container on the counter (no fridge necessary).
Notes
Okay, you do not have to cut these into hearts, you can leave them in the pan, ice and then cut them into bars later if you like (like the Chex Treats). You can also use a different type of Chex cereal (like Cinnamon or Peanut Butter) too!
