We had “date” night at our house the other night. Andrew and Kensington went to dinner and a movie while I stayed home and played with our 2 year old son, Smith. I wanted to make some special cookies with Smith that were more about the fun part (candy, icing, sprinkles) and less about the complicated (measuring, rolling, precision baking). So, Smith and I whipped up these. They’re cute, they’re festive, they’re fun and they’re simple. The perfect combination when baking with a two year old boy.
Shopping List
1 package sugar cookie mix
1 egg
1 stick butter, softened (not melted)
1 cup Valentine’s M&Ms
Red food coloring
Vanilla Frosting
Pink sprinkles
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
In a medium bowl, combine cookie mix, egg and butter with spoon until dough forms. (dough will be sticky…not super smooth like a cake mix) Once dough forms, stir a few drops of red food coloring until a nice pink color appears. Once the dough is pink, stir in your M&M candy.
Drop dough by tablespoon fulls onto greased baking sheet. Bake 8-9 minutes. Cool on cooling rack. Once cooled, spread frosting over each cookie and top with pink sprinkles.
This is not about being fancy and complicated…this is about date night being fun for you and your little ones. Happy Valentine’s Day!
His favorite part is licking the spoon after we’re done making the cookies.
