On Monday morning, I woke up and thought it was the perfect day to do A Day in the Life of Kensington and Smith…because it was such an average day…a typical day…a great day. I know one day, I’ll look back and think these are the best days of my life.
Smith always wakes up first, right at 7:00. I can hear his door open and close behind him and then he lies quietly in the hallway upstairs until I come up and carry him down. I’m pretty sure he would lie there all day if I didn’t go get him. (It was really dark when I took this picture…he looks like he’s throwing a tantrum but honestly, he’s just lying there cuddled with his blanket!)
I took a pic of us as we walked down stairs together.
Smith said he wanted his breakfast at the gym that morning, so I gave him some milk and a few Shredded Wheat to hold him over while he watched Peppa Pig.
At 7:40, I went in to wake up this sleeping beauty.
Sweet girl
And then I carried her down the stairs (I don’t even have to go to the gym! I get my workout by carrying them up and down the stairs in the morning!)
K wanted breakfast at home, so I got her dressed and gave her a pancake with Nutella (her favorite!). Sleeping Beauty’s fairies accompanied her all day.
Then, we gathered up our stuff and headed out the door to the gym. Kensington is packing her purse :).
This is how she gets up the stairs to the gym.
This is Smith’s “I’m using my muscles to keep these doors open” face.
I got Smith situated with his breakfast in the gym’s snack room and off I went to workout.
After the gym, we headed to the park with friends for lunch.
On our way home from the park, Andrew told me to drop Smith off at his office and he would take him to get a quick haircut. Smith with his new do.
1:15…Smith is sound asleep. I woke up him at 5:05. This kid can SLEEP! (But somehow, he still hates pooping in the potty…every kid has their strengths and weaknesses…)
I let Kensington play with ABC Mouse for 30 minutes before her nap.
I came downstairs and noticed that Kensington had left her princesses out to either guard the laundry room or say hello…
Kensington was up at 3:30, so we worked on our writing a bit…
…then had Popsicles.
Smith was up just in time to help me make dinner! We made Spinach and Pesto Baked Tacos.
Kensington cleaned up her princesses before we ate (in a purse, of course!).
And taco time we had!
Then, we headed off for a walk. The 4 of us love our evening walks!
Kensington walked ahead using her umbrella…she was blocking the sun…such a girl!
Next up, bath time! Everyone got all squeaky clean and then watched Dancing With The Stars (they watched the first part until their bedtime).
Kensington went to sleep with Mulan.
And Smith went straight to sleep too.
I’m not kidding when I say…this boring old regular day…will one day be looked upon as the best days of my life. I just love spending time with my kiddos.
After Tuesday’s post, I had several people ask me what time the kids went to bed each night and what time we went to bed. The kids go to bed at 8:00 and we go to bed around 10:30. (Well, we get into bed at 10 and then I have to watch a Frasier before I fall asleep…so that puts it at 10:30.) So, Andrew and I have a little over two hours of just us time each evening…that’s really important to our relationship (we joke that brownies and the Real Housewives keep our marriage strong). Would I like more than 6 hours of sleep a night? Yes. Am I willing to sleep more and accomplish less during my day? No. I don’t mind getting only 6 hours of sleep because I love what I do when I’m awake…so, it’s the right decision for me.

"Am I willing to sleep more and accomplish less during my day? No." Love this! I just might have to steal it the next time someone asks me why I don't get more sleep.

Those are the best days ever! I couldn't agree more. We cherish our family walks and the every day too.

I have always been a morning person. I get more done in the hours before everyone else is awake than I do the rest of the day.
PS- if you ever want to pass down some of Smith clothes, we will gladly accept the donation! I have a 10 month old, and Smith's clothes are adorable!

my mother in law has told John and me for years "these are the best years of y'alls lives" and at first i would laugh it off but after a couple years of hearing it, it finally sunk in. Even the perfectly pre-teen (holy moly!) and the terrificly toddler days (wowsa!) are worth cherishing! It all goes by so fast and I'm so blessed to have these 3 little people to love and teach!! There are definitely challenging days and we just fall on the couch after the boys are in bed and laugh and remind each other "these are the best days of our lives!" love your heart for your babies ~ its always so encouraging to me! =)

I was once told by a doctor that sleeping in 3-hour increments was the best thing you could do – as in getting 3, 6, or 9 hours of sleep. Something about your sleep cycle. I always opt for the 6 as well.

I just love that you use your blog as a digital scrapbook. I paper scrapbook and I'm way behind! Your kids remind me so much of my oldest two. They are now 6 and almost 5. My daughter is older than my son too and they have really become best friends as they've gotten older. It's so awesome that they will have a constant playmate. I wouldn't trade how close they are in age for nothing. Truly special times!!

love love love day in the life posts 🙂 and we do the same – the kid in bed 730/8 and we hang out on our own until about 10. It's a nice time to just us.

OMG my daughter has a "pooping on the potty " phobia as well! She's like perfectly potty trained and then when its poop time she brings me.a diaper and if we say we don't have any , I'm not joking she will hold it and scream! I don't understand

Hi Shay~
First and foremost, I got myself a pair of the wedges you and Sheaffer were raving about. Love them! Still wearing them right now as a matter of fact.
I was curious how come you never, ever mention Sean and Catherine any more?? Are you able to talk about that in one of your upcoming posts?
