The kids and I decided to make applesauce one Sunday afternoon. Not only did it make my house smell delicious, it made our dinner a little extra special too.
If you have a slow cooker, this little method is a cinch to make (and the leftovers keep in your fridge up to 3 days!). Enjoy it as a snack, a side, a breakfast or as an ingredient in something else…just enjoy it :).
This makes about 4 cups of applesauce (or so).
Shopping List
8 apples, peeled, cored and sliced into chunks (I used Honeycrisp but Gala or Macintosh work well too)
1 cup water
1/2 cup light brown sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons cinnamon
In your slow cooker, combine all 4 ingredients, cover and cook on low 7 to 8 hours or on high 4 hours.
Remove lid from slow cooker and using a hand mixer, lightly mix the ingredients until they resemble the consistency you like (I like my applesauce a little chunky). You could also pour the ingredients in a food processor and pulse until you reach your desired consistency.
Serve warm or cold.
Enjoy!

I want to give you my recipe for applesauce. I haven't tried it in a slow cooker but its fabulous!
8-10 granny smith apples cored and peeled.
cover the bottom of the pan in water and add a squirt of lemon juice.
cook the apples, water and lemon juice mixture on high until the apples are soft enough to mash (usually 5 minutes)
before mashing I add 3/4 cup brown sugar, 1 tsp of nutmeg and 1 tsp of cinnamon.
Mash applesauce and enjoy 🙂
I adore your blog Shay! Thanks xox

Do you use more than one size crockpot? I only have one and I feel like smaller dishes like this, they burn if I don't closely watch it.

I have two different sized slow cookers but I made this recipe in my large (7 quart) one. It burns if it isn't full enough but this was plenty to make it not burn.

I was excited about making this!!! I made it today and I really enjoyed it. However, my husband said, it had too much cinnamon and my kids (ages 2 and 3) didn't love it. They are huge applesauce fans. Bummer! I always LOVE your recipes, but this one wasn't a hit in our home. :/ I might try it again with more sugar and less cinnamon. Thanks for always sharing!
