So…this is my post about my Apple Watch :).
Things to note:
1. I am probably the worst person EVER to discuss an Apple product with anyone…because I’m not techy at all. My friend Lori has to help me with my iPhone all the time. The minute it starts acting up, I call her…which is more often than she would probably like. Lori was among the many surprised by this purchase :).
2. “How do you like your Apple Watch?” is now the number one question trending on my blog, IG comments and email ;). Okay, maybe not the number 1…but it’s pretty darn close! Since so many of you are asking, I thought I should probably share.
3. I’m really hoping some of you Apple Watch owners will share tips/tricks/advice because I know I’m not maximizing my watch to the fullest…so any other info would be great!
Remember way back last April when I asked you guys if I should get a Fitbit or not? I had been contemplating this purchase for sometime, so I did what I often do…I polled you guys :). The response actually really surprised me. The Fitbit is slightly polarizing with you ladies. Some of you swore by them, some of you were not happy with yours, some of you didn’t know what a Fitbit was…the response was fierce and all over the place. And because the “do you love Fitbit?” answers were so diverse, I decided against it at the time. I did have at least one person comment and another person email me that they would invest any Fitbit money I had into an Apple Watch instead…and for some reason, those comments stuck with me.
Fast forward to October…
…remember when we were in New York and randomly ran into two friends walking down the street in Soho? Stephanie (in the middle) lives in NYC and our friend Laura was there visiting her. Well, they had just come from the Apple store because Stephanie apparently had been flipping out over her Apple Watch so much that Laura had just purchased one too. So, when we bumped into them, they were on an Apple Watch high…and apparently, it was contagious.
After we parted ways, I told Andrew that they had basically convinced me to get an Apple Watch. His response? You wouldn’t know how to work it. #thetruthhurts #yetthetruthisthetruth
So, I once again, I put the Apple Watch thought out of my head. Fast forward two weeks and…the speakers on my iPhone stopped working (I had no sound coming out). I made an appointment at the Apple Store and took my phone in. They do what they do there…they take your product that needs to be repaired in the back and then they park you on a stool next to some sort of Apple product…and as luck would have it, they parked me next to the Apple Watches where there was a video explaining the watch and how you basically can’t live without it. I sat there and watched that video play over and over and over again for 45 minutes. And then I knew I needed one. Product person placement works like that in the Apple Store.
So, the first week in December, I bought myself an Apple Watch. I remember it clearly…I met Erika at the mall that day and I told her I was buying an Apple Watch…and she looked confused. Friends, apparently my technology ineptness is apparent to everyone! That being said, I bought myself a watch and took it home.
I went home…I opened the box (it does NOT come with instructions), I went online to Apple’s website and watched every video they had on using your watch…and about 1½ hours later, I was obsessed with my watch. OBSESSED.
Andrew came home from work and saw my new watch, pretty sure he called me a dork and we sat down to dinner. By the time dinner was over, Andrew wanted a watch too. He had watch envy. So, I bought him one for Christmas…’cause the watch is cool y’all.
You can send another Apple Watch little drawings, handwritten pictures, your heartbeat and such…so, pretty much all day long, I’m sketching him a heart or a smiley face. He’s really good at drawing pictures and sending them to me on my watch. He laughs because I can pretty much just draw a smiley face, a heart and XOXO. I like to hold my finger down and send him my heartbeat. It’s easier than drawing a picture and it’s sweet :).
Okay, that’s how I ended up with the watch…this is why I love the watch…
1. I hardly ever look at my phone now. It’s weird but true. The watch DOES NOT replace your phone…they work together. My phone can be anywhere in the house (like at the bottom of my purse in my closet) and my watch will ring if my phone is ringing (and I can answer and carry on a conversation with someone from my watch), it notifies me of everything from email to text messages, FB notifications, Pinterest repins, Instagram likes…whatever you have it set for, it will notify you. And it’s so much easier and less distracting to glance at your watch on your wrist then check your phone or computer. I even have mine set to notify me of Red Sox news. So, during a game, if I’m not watching, I can still get quick notifications without having to look at my phone. I don’t know about you…but most of the time, I don’t need to be looking at my phone. I just hear it ping and I wonder if it’s a client getting back to me about a vacation…when it’s usually something like this…
…an email that doesn’t require my immediate attention. I just glance at my wrist, see that it’s not important and keep on doing what I’m doing (which at the moment is typing this post for you!). And if I’m upstairs folding laundry and hear my phone ringing downstairs…instead of running down the stairs and across the house to see if it’s a client/a doctor/my kids’ school (you know, someone important that I need to speak with right away) I can just answer on my wrist…or, if I see that it’s let’s say my dad calling for the 12th time that day to talk about the Red Sox, I can hit “decline” and either call him back later or talk to him when he calls the 13th time ;).
So, the #1 reason I love my watch is because I am less interested in my phone now. #amen
2. I love the fitness app! Okay, I’m totally into the fitness app on the watch. It is constantly monitoring my heart-rate, tells me when I’ve been sitting too long (it will buzz and say that I need to stand up and move around), counts my steps (A-mazing! I’m now totally aware of the days when I move less then other days. Counting my steps daily has really helped my overall fitness because you know what…some days, I just don’t move enough). It counts my calories, measures distances for me (like when I walk or run), tells me how many calories I burned/steps I took/what my heart rate was in fitness classes…the app is so helpful!
3. Siri is my new bestie. I don’t really use Siri on my phone, but on my watch, I use her all the time! I can be driving and while holding on to the steering wheel with both hands the whole time, I can just say, “Hey Siri, text Andrew that I’ll be there in five.” and bam, it’s done without ever glancing down. (I know Siri works like this on your phone too…but your wrist is just way more convenient than picking up your phone!).
So, these are the three things I love most about the watch. I would say that if I could make any improvements to my watch they would be:
1. Longer battery life. My watch works for about 1½ days (I charge it every night before bed and the battery is typically around 45%). I wish the battery lasted two full days without charging.
2. I wish it were waterproof! If my watch was waterproof, I wouldn’t take it over. I would shower and swim with it on :).
So, your watch face can be very basic (with just the time), you can put a picture on there (maybe of your kiddo along with the time)…there are a million ways to customize the watch face. I like this as my watch face…
#1: The date
#2: The red dot lets me know that I have a notification waiting for me (in case I missed it). I just swipe up to see what it is (an email/text/missed call/Red Sox score/etc)
#3: The time
#4: I have my fitness app info on the watch face to let me know how active I’ve been that day. Calories burned (on this day, I set my active calories to 300), number of minutes I exercised so far that day, and number of hours I’ve been standing (it recommends you stand at least one minute of every hour, so I had done that at least four hours that day).
#5: My timer/alarms. I bake and cook so much that I love being able to set the timer on my watch and then walk away from my kitchen. This way, I know I won’t miss my timer when my food is done cooking…my watch will beep and vibrate!
#6: The battery life left on my watch.
#7: The current temperature.
You can click any of those options and it will open up and show you more info. Like if you click on the temperature, it will open the weather app and show you the 24 hour forecast/7 day forecast/radar/etc.
If you press that top button on the right then all of my apps open up. There are so many great apps! I have it synced with my phone, so that all of the apps on my phone that are Apple Watch compatible will automatically show on my watch. If I wanted to, I could scroll through Instagram on my watch, get directions (the navigation/direction app is awesome! It vibrates every time you need to turn, so in NYC, it was super helpful!), you can sync music on here and then when you’re out walking/running, you can hear songs off of your watch and don’t have to carry your phone. It syncs right up with your Bluetooth device. Love! Pandora plays through your watch, there’s Twitter, my Bible app (for daily verses or looking up scripture), my Fox News app is on here (so I get notifications when something around the world happens right to my wrist), my Starbucks app is on here so I can pay right off my wrist when ordering a drink…and those are only a few!
Now, I’m old-fashioned and still use a regular planner instead of my planner/calendar on my phone…but that is an option too. Andrew has his calendar synced with his watch so that he gets reminders, alarms for appointments and such right there on his wrist. He can also scroll through and look at other dates as well (the whole app opens right up).
A few more basic facts before I finish…
1. There are two sizes of watches and I bought the bigger size because I like big watches. The guy at the Apple store said the size I bought is typically bought by men instead of women…but I like my watches big so I purchased the 42mm case instead of the 38mm. Same watch, two different sizes.
2. I bought the gold aluminum case (it also comes in silver, black and rose gold). The aluminum cases are the least expensive options.
3. My watch came with a navy band, so I bought one white band and a taupe band to use instead (and gave Andrew my navy). It’s super, super, super easy to switch out bands!
4. I bought the Apple protection plan for my watch and I’m glad that I did because about four weeks after purchasing mine, it stopped working and Apple just overnighted me a new one. I’ve had my new one now for over four months and haven’t had a single problem.
Whew! I think I’ve covered pretty much everything!
I hope this helps some of you out who are trying to decided if you need one or not. Please feel free to leave comments below if you have questions and again, if you have an Apple Watch, please, please, please feel free to leave other tips and tricks that I left out!

Thanks for sharing. This is great info. I have a few questions, did you get a protective cover for the watch face? Where did you purchase the taupe watch band and what is the material? Lastly, does your white band discolor or look dingy easily? Thanks much!
Mix and Match Mama says
I did not get a protective cover, my bands are from the Apple store (the taupe one is magnetic) and my white band still looks great!
Nicole in WI says
The sport bands from Amazon are nice (and less expensive!) http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00HXC5GXY/ref=twister_B01BY7QEXE?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

This whole thing makes me smile…it's taken me a year to get used to my FitBit!!
Sarah Shaneyfelt says
My sister has an Apple watch and is OBSESSED with it! I told my husband I thought I wanted to replace my Fitbit with the Apple watch–we're going to get me a new phone Saturday, so we'll see if I end up with a new watch too 😉

What year do you think Apple Watches will almost be extinct and they'll be something way cooler out? Because that's probably the year I'll decide I need on. #alwayslatetothetechyparty
Paula says
You spoke my exact thoughts! #alwaysbehindthetimes
Leigh (Balancing By Faith) says
Haha! This is what I am thinking too – I LOVE the idea…but just doubt my pennies will be saved for an Apple Watch anytime soon!
Sheaffer {Pinterest Told Me To} says
Great review! You're making me catch the fever! And I'm going to read about that pasta salad now because it looks fantastic!
Regine Karpel says
Love your bracelets.

I had not previous thoughts on getting an apple watch, I don't even wear a regular watch but this review might have convinced me!!
Narci says
So neat!! Love that it has so many features!! I think you have me convinced!!
Lauren Donoghue says
Hi Melissa – I have the white sport band and the back side got blue discolor on it from my jeans. In fairness the jeans were new and I should have washed them before wearing. 🙂 The blue is faint and doesn't really bother me. Plus when you buy a band you get a second in another size so if it ever really does annoy me I can switch to the larger size.
May C says
I've had my apple watch in rose gold w/ lavendar/grayish band since December and the band has also discolored with blue from my jeans. I love my watch but wish the band wouldn't discolor.
Heather Anderson says
Try using a magic eraser on it. I have that band too and that is how I clean mine.
jthmas says
Yep, just like the last person, I don't even wear a regular watch but now I want an Apple watch:-)
kelly says
Wow. The thought never crossed my mind to get an apple watch until now. I may just be catching the fever too! Thank you for the info
Emily Forever After says
So has this replaced your regular MK watch? I'm nervous I'll miss wearing my watch everyday if I replace it with this sportier version.
Mix and Match Mama says
Yeah…I thought I would miss wearing a normal watch too…but now, I'm so codependent with this darn thing, that I don't at all :). Occasionally for dressier events, I'll wear my MK watch.
Stefanie says
Where did you get the cute band you have? and did it come with two different size bands? my wrist are so little but I want the bigger screen 🙂
Twinsmum04 says
I agree with the above poster.. No thoughts on an Apple watch and I don't even have an everyday watch but your review has me thinking otherwise. Between Sheaffer's review on the UGG Jules wedge and this review on the watch I think I know what my Mother's Day and birthday gifts will be.:)
Mix and Match Mama says
See! I'm an idiot! If I can make this watch work…imagine what a person with even the slightest amount of smarts could do with it?!?! I corrected the word by the way! Thank you!! 🙂

Mix and Match Mama says
Haha! We don't. To be fair, I bought it around December 20 and took it to his office as a surprise. I knew he wanted one but since he had given me SUCH A HARD TIME, I knew he would never buy himself one. That's what you get for calling someone with an Apple Watch a dork ;).
Love on the Lake says
That's hilarious!

Girl you are good! My entire commute to work I was trying to justify buying myself an Apple Watch! My only hangup is my MK watch collection!
K says
I received a Fitbit for Christmas and really started wearing it. And I'm obsessed with it! I've been having Apple Watch envy though! Do you have to buy additional monthly data or do you share data with your iPhone? Also do you know if it's compatible with our programs like weight watchers? That's one of the reasons I like my Fitbit so much.
Mix and Match Mama says
You do not have to buy additional data…and I have no idea if it is compatible with WW but I bet you could look that up quickly! Love mine :).
Holly says
It is compatible with WW through Apple health (an app that's on your iPhone) the watch syncs to that & WW syncs to the app. Also on the face of mine I have my WW smart points & fitpoimts for the day!
brookerichardson says
You totally convinced me of this purchase back in January! And I'm so glad I did. I don't have advice on any new tips and tricks! I might be sending you a little sketch later ?
Christen Graham says
I don't think you're an idiot! I really almost said, "Don't allow this post because I'll sound rude, but correct it so you don't get comments." I wasn't trying to belittle you; unfortunately comments from strangers probably have a bit more sting, even if unintended.
Bethany Halpern says
Hi Shay! Curious as you what watch/color you got for Andrew? Thinking about getting one for my husband for Fathers Day! Thanks so much for all the help! XO
Mix and Match Mama says
I bought him the silver one in the larger size. 🙂

I loooooove my Apple Watch. If someone is thinking about buying one, I would go to Best Buy. They price match Target when it is $100 off (which happens often) plus your 5% off Target Red Card. I ended up getting mine for $300 WITH AppleCare. I also buy my bands on Amazon for $5-$10 a piece and they are exactly like the Apple ones that are $49 a piece! Great post!!
Kathy Lang says
Thanks for sharing how to save some money! 🙂
Jessica says
My husband surprised me with an Apple Watch I didn't know I wanted for Christmas and I too have been obsessed. He keeps telling me he didn't think I would like it THIS much. I'm not tech savvy either–you have taught me a couple of things about it, if that makes you feel better. I totally agree that the best thing it does is take away the "need" to check your phone so often. I would check my phone for texts, calls–the important stuff, then check Facebook, Instagram and whatever else. Now I don't have to worry about missing the important stuff and I can leave my dang phone alone! There are some days I don't even look at Facebook till the kids are in bed–gasp! It's life changing! Glad I'm not the only one obsessed!
Joanne Holbein says
Hi Shay, I love my Apple watch too (I'm a little biased since I work for the company)! I would say that your watch is water resistant (as opposed to waterproof), so you can shower with it, I do all the time (great way to get in the extra "stand" time). I have also swam in a pool and floated the San Marcos river with mine, but I don't stay submerged too long. Have you used ApplePay yet? So convenient! Happy you are enjoying your purchase! <3
Karen says
I got mine for Christmas and love it! I' feel like there is so much more I could still do/learn on it, so I'm following for tips!
Chrystal Richardson says
Great review! How accurate is the distance calculator? That's been one of my complaints on my Fitbit…it's never accurate!
Kathleen Hulbert says
It is accurate, but, there is for sure a margin of error. On a five mile run, it can be as much as 1/4 mile off. If I turn on Map My Run on my phone, I check the mileage for accuracy. Sometimes, it is right on and I haven't figured out why that is.
Laura Fuller says
My husband is graduating with a doctorate degree this Friday. Our four children decided he needs one so maybe he will answer our text messages or phone calls. (He is not a tech person either…still uses a paper calendar & pays bills with checks sent through US Mail…). So, we've all been saving for this purchase. I figure it's a win-win for me either way. He will love it and will hear from him more often during the day or he will hate it and I will use it!
Ali Johnson says
What are the best ways to accessorize the Apple Watch? I love mine, but choosing the right jewelry to go with it is a difficult task.
Mother Henn says
My husband bought me an Apple watch for Christmas. I love it, but don't think I'm using it to its full potential. Thanks for your review….I've learned a few more things I can do with mine. I do like the ease of using Apple pay right from my watch without ever having to get my wallet out of my purse, but not many retailers in my area have the capability.
Dani Lewis says
My birthday is coming up and this would make a great for myself. I too would go with the bigger watch. Makes the wrist look smaller 🙂 Love you friend and thanks for all the tidbits and knowledge before I invest.
6friarys says
So glad you posted this! I've been thinking about one for a while and saw that Target has them on sale this week. Getting mine today!!
Karen says
Hopefully you will see this before you purchase yours. Get the extended warranty at Target ~ I got 3 years protection for around $50. Since they haven't classified these as electronics yet the extended warranty is dirt cheap.
Rose says
Though more expensive, the best solution for extended coverage for any Apple product is Apple Care since they are the ones having to repair or replace the item.
I learned the hard way. ?
Amy S. says
So glad you covered the Apple Watch! I love mine and also have the larger size. My best tips are using Cottonelle or Charmin wipes to clean your white sport band. I've had mine since release day and my white band still looks great! I have the silver aluminum and I ordered a classic silver link band (similar to MK bands) from Amazon for $25 and it's my most worn. I also got the band in gold and snap on a gold face cover for days I want a gold watch! I carry them in a little bag inside my purse so I can exchange based on outfit or activity, lol. Sadly, my MK watch collection has not seen the light of day since I got my Apple Watch but I don't miss them.
Jill B says
What is the link to the silver link band?
Three Gals and a Guy says
OOh! I love the tip for the wipes to clean the white band! Mine stays pretty clean but I do get smudges here and there! Great tip! Thank you!

Do you have any issues with it getting really sweaty and gross at the gym? that's my current beef with the fitbit, the band gets really gross, and I want to be able to wear it working out!

I didn't think I needed an Apple watch until the moment I bought one (on an after Thanksgiving turkey brain) and put it on. My boyfriend made fun of me because I had to have the bigger phone, but now he has one too and sings its praises to anyone that will listen. Apple Watch Envy….the struggle is real!
Darcy Sexson says
Gahhh – I don't even own an iPhone and this post makes me want the watch!!! 🙂 (Too bad there isn't a Droid version.) But it was fun reading all of your tips – and how fun is it that you can send sketches?!? What a sweet way to interact with a spouse during the day.
Joanna says
I'd love to know if anyone has the Apple Watch Sport and if it's comparable with the basic features? Or if it's better to just get the regular Apple Watch?
Ashley Olson says
I am curious as well! What's the main difference between sport vs regular?
Rose says
All of the Apple Watches have the same features, including the Sport.

Thank you Rose!

I love my watch, but don't know if I am using to its full potential either 🙂 Can you tell me how you get Red Sox updates to your phones- I would love that for my home team.
Terrie Mathison says
Oh my. It's something I've been eyeballing and mentioned one hint so far. I think I need to hint a little more! Great review. Thx!!
Andrea says
I don't think I am using mine to its full potential either but still love it! How do you get Red Sox updates to the watch- I would love that for my home team.

Just get the MLB app on your phone, set it to your favorite team and then select it on your Watch app. Easy!

Ok I now feel like the Apple Watch is the one thing I never knew that I always wanted. Ack! Looking them up now. Great review!
Nicole in WI says
I heart my apple watch. My tips/tricks:
1. you can get really cheap, but still nice bands on Amazon for much cheaper. I have like 5 colors and I love changing them to match my outfits.
2. My app recommendation is heartwatch – this app more closely watches your heart rate and gives you fun graphs/charts on your stats. I find it helpful for working out because it figures out your fat burning range and helps you target that and keeps a log of the time your heartrate was in that zone during that days workout.
3. I also bought this stand from amazon. It works nicely and gives everything a nice place on my nightstand: http://smile.amazon.com/Aerb-Charging-Bracket-Docking-Station/dp/B00XVUC4EG?ie=UTF8&keywords=apple%20watch%20stand&qid=1462285852&ref_=sr_1_14&s=wireless&sr=1-14

I LOVE LOVE my Apple watch so much! I love how you styled yours.. I struggle with knowing what to stack it with! I loved mine so much, I talked my hubby into getting one too! =)
Kathleen Hulbert says
So, I have owned the Apple watch for six or so months and LOVE it! My brothers (for Mother's Day) got me a light pink leather band to wear to dress it up a bit and I have loved that! I wear the athletic band for running, days at home, etc but the pink leather is fantastic and really sets it apart! I have owned many fitness trackers and this one is by far my favorite. I agree with you that the battery life bugs me, and the other critical item I would note is that at times the miles are not accurate with running (it can be off by as much as a 1/4 of a mile). I am a huge fan though!
Kristina @ Ms.Modify says
To be completely honest I always thought they were kind of dorky and too complicated to use. But, I think you may have changed my mind! I love how you still wear bracelets with the watch! xo, Kristina
Annie Fasone says
Now I think I need one! And I'm the type of person that if it's on my mind I can't let it go! Thanks 🙂
Nina says
Do you take it off when cooking/doing dishes/washing hands etc.? Wondering how durable the watch is for everyday life. I think you inspired me to buy one! Great post Shay!! Incredibly informative.
Mix and Match Mama says
I do not take it off except for showers, pool and bedtime. I wash dishes, wash my kids' hair, etc with it on!
hmferrero says
I got myself one for Christmas since they were $100 off at Best Buy. I got the 38mm one but now wish I had gotten the 42mm because there is a waterproof case only for the 42mm one. http://www.catalystlifestyle.com/products/catalyst-apple-watch-42mm They told me they have no plans to make it for the 38mm.

I have a very co-dependent relationship with my phone, so I have been wanting an Apple watch in hopes that it would help me break that! I have been wearing a Polar Loop for almost 2 years now, and one thing I love is that it tracks my sleep (restful vs restless), is there an option for that with the Apple watch?
Rose says
Yes, there is a great sleep app, Sleep++
It will show you how much sleep you are getting and how much is restful, etc. when you are ready to go to sleep you start the app on the watch and turn it off when you awake.
Stacey Walden says
I've been wondering some of these things about the Apple Watch so this was great!! I have a question—maybe I never noticed before but I see that you wear the watch on your left wrist. Are you left-handed? I am, and I tend to have a love/hate relationship with watches because the side buttons sometimes get pressed when I move my wrist. I was wondering if you have this issue with the Apple Watch, and especially the larger size watch? Thanks!
Ali says
My husband has been trying to get me to appreciate the Apple Watch ever since it was announced and I have relentlessly poked fun at it and the people who bought into it. (I would call it an "iWatch" just to make him roll his eyes.) And now… I read this. And it somehow makes me want one something bad!!!! So yeah, the Apple Watch want is DEFINITELY contagious! I just love your writing & blogs, Shay!
Lindsay at Lindsay'sSweetWorld says
Stop it, you enabler!! Now I NEED one!

Two comments. My son has one and there was a mesh band that was really cool in the Apple Store and it was $299…we got it on Amazon for $25 and it was a knock off. It came from China and he's had it for 2 weeks and it's totally awesome…so you can look for knock off bands as well.
Also, the guy in our Apple store said buy the warranty and wear it all the time…even in the shower. He said he and another guy there never take it off…never. He said they have had it on for 1 year and have a competition going to see if it will die. I asked because my son is 14 and I was afraid he'd get it wet. I wanted a lifeproof type case. So next time your in the Apple Store, ask about that. He said our warranty would work if it died. My son still takes it off, but it's nice to know in case of an emergency.
motheroftwo says
My son has one and he plays soccer in it, wears it to school, everywhere…no scratches.
midwestmom says
Ok now I want one! Mostly because you say it frees you from your phone and I really need that!! But my problem is I'm an android/Samsung lover. Anyone have their version and love it too? Do they have one even?
Alicia says
Love, love, love my Apple Watch I got for Christmas. I didn't think I wanted one either, but I wanted something to track my activity and now I am so dependent on it, I think I would cry if I didn't have it. It is so handy and helpful while working out and just bumming around, it is nice not to have to carry my phone with my all over the house and office now.
Rose says
I didn't notice it mentioned in your article (perhaps I missed it) but you must have an iPhone model 5 or later to use an Apple Watch (pair with it) at this point.
There is a newer Apple Watch model rumored to be announced in the next couple of months so if one is undecided they might wait and watch for Apple news to see what the next version will bring to the game.
In response to watch size, the sensors must be properly "seated" on the wrist above the wrist bone for continuity of connection and size does matter. A person with a very small wrist cannot achieve a good connection with the 42mm and will need to select a 38mm watch. The watch cannot be worn like a bangle bracelet. Trying on the watch before purchase is a good idea.

Thank you so much for this informative post!! I might get my hubby one for Father's Day!!! I always love your blog, Shay!!

Hi Shay! Did you buy the apple watch sport or the apple watch. I do not know what the difference is between the two besides the price. About a $300 dollar difference, I wonder if it is just the band? So which one did you get? Thanks!
BackandForth says
The watch can be adjusted for whichever wrist you wear it on. There's an orientation option so you can flip it! 🙂

You have convinced me that I need an apple watch in my life now!
Jules says
What fitness app do you use? I am hoping for one for mothers day 😉
Mix and Match Mama says
The one that comes with the Apple watch. It's already installed on there.

I LOVE my Apple watch!!!! Thanks for all of your iwatch tips!

Two questions because I just recently got an Apple Watch. How do you sync your Pandora? When I open Pandora, it just plays on my phone not the watch ? Which Fitness app do you use? The one that comes on it I don't think is accurate. After a workout, it will still tell me I only have 50 steps for example. I still have a lot to learn!
Mix and Match Mama says
There is a little watch icon at the top and next to it is a phone icon. Make sure you've selected the watch icon. And when all else fails, check online at Apple for a video :). They have them for EVERYTHING! And I use the fitness app that comes with the apple watch!

I love the idea of not being so attached to my phone. But all together do you think you stare at electronics more or less now with the watch? When my phone rings I find myself checking stuff I wouldn't otherwise. Do you find yourself doing that on the watch?
Mix and Match Mama says
LESS!!!
Heather says
Do you miss wearing your MK watches???
Mix and Match Mama says
I thought I would, but not at all. I still wear them when I need to dress up a bit.

Wow!! I had no idea it could do this much! Great post and super informative. And now I want one. Ha!!

Love this post! My Apple Watch is literally a lifesaver. My 11-yo daughter is a juvenile diabetic. Through the Dexcom app, the watch sends me notifications when her blood sugar is high or low. I'm a night shift nurse and have received notifications at work that her blood sugar is low which can be very dangerous at night when she is sleeping. So now I call and wake up my husband and he checks on her. Pretty amazing, huh? Didn't know about the sketches you can send. How do you do this?

I so wish the Apple Watch had GPS, they would make a killing on this watch if it had that feature! My Garmin stopped working, and I was considering getting a new one, but, I now just carry my iPhone when I run instead.
I was so excited after reading your review, because I'd rather have something on my wrist as apposed to carrying my phone, but after researching and found no GPS, I was bummed. Maybe one day, right Apple?

I just bought an Apple Watch this past weekend and I'm obsessed with it!! Did you know you can place your palm on top of it & it will shut off? Just thought I would share this fun feature! 🙂

Love my Apple Watch! Great during work days to help me where I'm going and to not look distracted.

Hi Shay, did you buy the sport or regular? I read that the sport is lighter weight and trying to decide between the two! Thanks for this post!

Hi Shay! If you're out on a run and are 5 miles away from your iPhone, are you still able to make calls directly from your watch? Would love to so that I can stop carrying my phone while I run! Thanks a bunch!
mhojaij says
I would totally give this to my mom

So d,I'd some research & us Fitbit app users can get a syncing app so we can still compete with our Fitbit friends. I got a charge 2mos ago & love it especially the silent alarm & call display feature… This got me thinking about an Apple Watch. I'm ALWAYS missing calls & messages life with small kids means I don't always have time to check my phone. First mention to my hubby & he is getting me one this weekend lol.

Sounds fascinating. And you sound very tech-savvy to me!

Just got back from Disney, and I really wished the Disney app was on the watch to keep track of my Fastpasses! 🙂 I sometimes misplace my iPhone in the house when I chase my toddler around, but the watch has a "ping" feature that makes my phone beep so I can find it! (Swipe up from your home screen and hit the phone icon.)
Christina Adamson says
This may be a dumb question… But when you travel, will you still be able to use your watch if you don't have data or wifi? Or can it run without any connection if you're just using it as a watch?
kkarr says
It uses Bluetooth, so you don't need data or wifi for it to connect with your iPhone. 🙂

I am so glad I came back to read this and now I'm drooling over the apple watch. I received a FitBit for Christmas and while I loved that it tracked my fitness stuff and it would alert me when I had a phone call let's just say….it leaves a lot to be desired on the fashion front and I really just got over wearing it really fast. So going to ask for an apple watch come birthday time!

I bought an apple watch! I jumped back to this post to read the comments for tips and tricks. I haven't even had the watch 24hours. I need to figure out how to use it but I am excited. I went with silver face and white band. Thanks for posting this!

Shay! My boyfriend surprised me with an Apple Watch and I am nervous I will break it. Do you have a screen protector on yours?
Thanks!!
Mix and Match Mama says
I do not. I’m always nervous it will break too…but so far, it seems very resistant to things!

Shay – I searched for this post and went back to read your tips and thoughts on your watch. I have been wanting one, and just got it yesterday for my birthday. Now that I have it, I want to make sure I really like it and will continue to like it/find it beneficial months/years down the road. Do you still love yours just as much? My number one goal was to get away from my phone, and I am not sure I am seeing how I will do that – I will want my phone to have music when I run and while at work today I couldn’t be 30 feet away from it without it being in sync. Maybe it’s just because I am trying to figure it all out, but I want to make sure I will like it as I can return within 14 days if not. 🙂 Any thoughts after 6 months of use?
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh my goodness! I practically sleep in it! I LOVE MY WATCH! It’s almost been a year now and I love it still.
