The last Wednesday of the month, my friends Mel, Sheaffer and I host this link up where we share some random and fun stuff that’s up with us today. If you blogged WUW too, make sure you link up at the bottom of the post! Every month, we answer these questions…
1: WHAT WE’RE EATING THIS WEEK:
It’s my Meal Planning Monday! Um, all of these recipes are realllly good…and none of them are complicated. Click HERE to take a look.
2. WHAT I’M REMINISCING ABOUT:
Ah! Yesterday was my birthday and we had a very fun dinner on our town square with the sweet Slaughter family to celebrate. I’m thinking about that brisket and goat cheese pizza that I ate…and how I wished I had some for breakfast this morning. #truth
3: What I’m loving:
Did someone say Halloween clothes?! I am kind of obsessed with these outfits. I’m pretty sure they’re going to wear them every day between now and Monday.
And for those of you who like to know, I got these outfits on Etsy, Ashby’s bow at my cousin’s store, One Stop Bow Shop and Madeley’s head wrap HERE.
4: WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO:
All sorts of shenanigans with these four. We’re in the throes of life: school, homework, activities, holiday fun, bike riding, playing outside, and other stuff like that. These are the days that I know stress me out sometimes…but they’re also the days that I’m going to look back on and miss so much.
5: WHAT I’M DREADING:
I am not dreading Day Light Savings ending, I am looking SO FORWARD TO IT! I know a lot of people dread it being over, but I welcome it. I love it when it’s dark out early. Everything feels so cozy inside when it’s dark out. Plus…I have a really hard time being lazy when there is daylight. If it’s dark, I can put my pjs on at 6:30 and cuddle up with a book or TV…if it’s light, I feel like I should be productive outside 😉 .
6: WHAT I’M WORKING ON:
Well…our house has been under construction since the first week of September and this weekend, I can finally put it back together. #amen
Construction began two days before we left for China and is still in progress. For two months now, we haven’t been able to use the entire front portion of our house (including the front door). So…I’m very excited for that to be over and done with. Remember these pictures here…
…I totally took them at the end of August 😉 . I haven’t seen these rooms in months…it’s been blocked off. So, when my house is all put back together (goodbye dust, I hate you), I’ll share some pics.
7: WHAT I’M EXCITED ABOUT:
This girl is heading back to Today next week! I’m in the kitchen again next Thursday morning, so set your DVRs :).
8: WHAT I’M WATCHING/READING:
My October book review will be on Monday, so stay tuned for that. If you missed my last book review, click HERE. It was a good one, so you should check it out!
What I’m watching right now is One Tree Hill…thanks to Erika. I don’t even know why I’m watching this show, but I cannot stop. Erika and Andrea have been telling me to watch it, so I am. It’s like a train wreck…I just cannot look away!
9: WHAT I’M LISTENING TO:
Michael Buble’s album dropped on Friday and I have it on repeat! It’s so, so, so good! Annnnd…I’ve been educating my kids on Michael Jackson, so we’ve been listening to that a lot too. Smith said he’s going to go as Michael Jackson for Halloween next year. Ha! I think it’s Thriller that gets them every time 🙂 .
Did you see my new house shoes in yesterday’s post? I’m literally wearing them RIGHT NOW! I love them! Also…speaking of yesterday’s post, did you enter to win my Birthday Giveaway? I’m giving one lucky winner a $500 Nordstrom Gift Card. Just hop over to yesterday’s post for your chance to win.
I’ve also been wearing a lot of Loft lately…
Love my Loft top (with my favorite gray jeans and a buffalo check scarf!). It’s my go-to combo. (And they’ve restocked that scarf now in two colors. Yesterday, they only had one!)
And this combo too…
Loft top, jeans and leopard booties for the win.
11: WHAT I’M DOING THIS WEEKEND:
Holy Halloween! We’re doing a lot of fun stuff this weekend!
We have our church’s Trunk or Treat on Friday night, we’re going to a pumpkin patch on Saturday and then we’re going to do some other fun stuff too. We have just a few days to milk Halloween. And did I mention…I’m going to put my house back together too 🙂 .
12: WHAT I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT MONTH:
Did somebody say Kathie Lee and Hoda? Because I’m excited about that!
13: WHAT ELSE IS NEW:
Nothing. Same old, same old over here. Raising kids, making food, enjoying my friends and family, working on clients’ vacations…just really appreciating life.
Bonus question this month: What’s your favorite Halloween tradition?
Every year, we trick or treat with a big group of friends…that is always my favorite tradition! I love these sweet people so much!! I can’t wait until Monday night!
Whew! That’s What’s Up Wednesday today! If you blogged too, make sure you link up below. See you tomorrow!
Erika Slaughter says
Not only will we be showing Madeley the trick or treating ropes but Tab gets to experience all the fun! And it’s moments like this at 5:10 am that I think why didn’t I bring home that one little piece of pizza because it would be so good right now. Hahaha!
jenny says
Looks like you have a lot to look forward to! Can’t wait to see what you’re doing with your house. Remodels are no fun to live amongst, but it’s so exciting when it’s done (washing dishes in the bathtub isn’t for sissies!). 🙂

Brisket and goat cheese pizza? YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!! I’ve never had it, but I’m pretty sure I’m not living my best life until I try it.
Mary Ashleigh says
Omg One Tree Hill!! I’m a HUGE fan! It’s my favorite TV show of all time, I own all 9 seasons on DVD although the first 6 are the best. Enjoy it!!
Alissa says
Congratulations on Kathie Lee & Hoda!!! LOVE them, and can’t wait to watch. 🙂
Megan says
That is so exciting you are headed back to Today! Can’t wait to watch! Too funny that you are watching One Tree Hill. It was all filmed in my hometown and Brooke Davis’ house is my next door neighbor, and they used my husband’s dealership as Dan Scott Motors. Small World! Our house has been under construction too and I can’t wait to give it a serious deep clean. Can’t take anymore dust!
Narci says
Inlive those gray jeans on you!!! Adorable!! Excited for our trick or treating tradition! Hope you have a great day today!! Xoxo
Megan says
We did a house reno project in the spring. Living thru it was a bit of an adventure but it is so worth it in the end. The best part is that we went in vacation near the end and came home to the big reveal. It felt like an episode on HGTV. My hubby videoed my reaction and all. Ha!
Valerie cox says
Can’t wait to see you on KLG and Hoda! Love them and you!! Enjoy Madeley’s first Halloween!!
Holly says
Per your request I read, It Ends With Us. Oh my WORD! That book was so good! I could not put it down! I can’t stop thinking about it! Thank you for the recommendation! My book club has chosen it for our next book and I can’t wait for our discussion!
Michelle says
It seems like Halloween is flying by so fast. In South Carolina we had the hurricane, and clean up and then just soccer games non-stop. No time for pumpkin-patching and visiting the haunted house. Hopefully we can find time to carve jack-o-lanterns this weekend. Then trick -or-treat in spooky downtown Charleston. Can’t wait!! My favorite day to take photos of the entire year! Have fun in New York!!!

I am going to try your pumpkin and sausage ravioli next week, I cannot wait since I heard from another blogger that it is so good!
Ah One Tree Hill is so good, I watched it forever ago and could probably binge it again now if I wasn’t trying to finish all the Gilmore Girl seasons!

Looks like a lot of Halloween fun in the Shull house! I love that you are watching One Tree Hill, I talked about it on my WUW post too! I was reminiscing about it because I watched it while it aired and revisit the episodes and music from time to time. It is my favorite tv show of all time. I even worked on the last season because I just wanted to be a part of the show so bad haha 🙂 Happy Wednesday!

We have enjoyed seeing your family walk through your adoptions the last few years. We have been praying about adoption and We recently began the domestic adoption process! We created a blog to keep our families and friends updated during our process. We hope to encourage people to pray about and look into the process like you have.
Anna says
I love that you are watching One Tree Hill. I loved that show so much that I think I could watch it all over again. That show is train wreck after train wreck. I had the hardest time not watching more than 2 episodes in a sitting.
Megan Butler says
Wow. So much goodness here. I can’t wait to see what you’ve done to your house!!! And still loving those house shoes.
Angela Ellingson says
So excited for you to be on the Today show again! We cancelled our DVR to save money, but I literally wrote it in my planner so I can watch it live. 🙂 And your littles do look especially adorable in their halloween outfits!! And I can’t wait to get Michael Bublé’s new CD. It’s on my wishlist and my birthday is coming up! 😉
Kelly says
Please keep us updated on how you like One Tree Hill! My boyfriend and I are in a long distance relationship right now, so each night we try to watch an episode. And I picked OTH as our show (one of my very favorite shows), so I was so excited to see you hop on the train! We’re almost through with season 6! The train wreck gets better once they grow up a bit in later seasons. 🙂
Laci says
Congrats on Kathie Lee and Hoda!! Woohoo!!
Kristen says
Yes! Daylight savings time! I totally LOVE when it gets dark early and every single person I know absolutely hates it! I agree…it’s so cozy!! Also, One Tree Hill is THE BEST! I’m embarrassed to tell you how many times I’ve watched that show over and over again!

Thank you for reminding me about One Tree Hill! Such a good show. I may have to rewatch 🙂 Also, can I ask……you always seem so active, how do you find time to read so much? I want to read more but struggle to finish even a book a month. Any tips? And lastly, your home is beautiful! Do you have a cleaning service clean it or do you clean it? If you clean it then of course my question is, how do you find time? Do you do a little each day or knock it all out at once? Thanks! Happy Halloween!!!
Mix and Match Mama says
I read a lot at night and in the afternoons while I’m waiting on my kiddos (speech, dance, tennis, etc) and sometimes, early in the morning. And when I opened my travel agency, I got someone to help with housework…I couldn’t find time to do both!
Melanie says
One Tree Hill is one of my all-time fave shows. SOOOO good!
Ummm, excuse me! I hope your sharing about your renovations because I CANNOT WAIT to read all about it!!!!
Courtney says
LOVE One Tree Hill! First 6 seasons are the best. The rest is meh. Most of my ipod is made up of songs from the show. I loved the music so much! My daughter is named after Peyton. I hope you love the show!

Elizabeth says

Nicole says
Girl you can rock a ponytail better than anyone I’ve ever seen! You look stunning in the pictures with Kathy Lee and Hoda. Maybe you could do a post sometime on how you create your ponytail. Then maybe we’ll all experience the magic you feel when you pull your hair back when you need to get something done ????
Julie says
Hope you had a wonderful birthday. So random but since you are the product queen do you have a favorite brand of bed sheets? Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
Pottery Barn for my kids…and Andrew and I love flannel sheets (is that weird???) and get them from Lands End.
Lindsay @ Lindsay's Sweet World says
Girl, you are the only person in the entire universe who actually agrees with me about Daylight Savings Time!! I’ve never actually met anyone else who likes it like I do! Hubs and I were just talking about it last night and I was telling him how much I love it because it’s so cozy. It’s just not the same having Christmas lights glowing while it’s still light outside. Not to mention that it feels like we’re sleeping in an hour later. I mean, who doesn’t want that?!
And girl, congratulations about returning to Today!!!! Shay, you are ON FIRE, girl! I seriously just don’t know how you do it all.
And finally, Michael Buble – all the yes! I had it marked on my calendar to download, but we were on a little weekend mountain getaway, so I haven’t gotten it yet, but I’m doing it tonight! I mentioned it in my WUW post today, too! I just love him.
Kelly says
Shay, would you be able to give us a heads up on the Today Show time slot you will be on? We don’t have a DVR ( I know, last people on the planet) and I don’t watch daytime tv but I absolutely would tune in for you! And can’t wait for your reno reveal, that’s fun!:)
Mix and Match Mama says
I’m cooking in the last hour (10:00 AM) 😉
Kelly says
Thanks so much! Can’t wait to see you;)
Stacy says
I’m curious about the house–I’m surprised you have a reno project so soon after construction, but I can’t wait to see it! We’re building this spring, so if you did something you regretted and are fixing it I would love to read about it. 🙂
Rebecca Wall says
I’m so excited you’re watching One Tree Hill 🙂 I ended it about a month ago and couldn’t stop! Also I can’t wait until you talk about the Gilmore Girls reunion! Reading your blogs are one of my favorite parts of my day, thank you for being a positive light!
Mollie says
Oh my goodness! I started watching One Tree Hill after reading Erika’s post last week. Addicted! I haven’t watched it since college. Not much will keep me up past my bedtime, but this show has! Can’t stop watching!
Jenna says
What size is your loft patterned shell top? Sometimes they run big so I was just curious! Sorry if you have answered this question already haha!!! Can’t wait to see what you’ve done with your home!!
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s an xsmall!

October birthdays are the best!!! Looks like yours was wonderful. ONE TREE HILL…love that show. My daughter was binge watching it last year and I got sucked in. Love me some Michael Buble. AND did you during your birthday month you can go in a Kendra Scott store and make a purchase of a single item for HALF OFF?!?!?!?!? I did it while I was visiting my parents at the new KS store there. LOVE THAT!!!! Happy WUW, Shay!
eli says
i agree about daylight savings time – doesn’t bother me at all! i love being cozy inside when it’s dark out!
Christine says
Hello,
I want an honest answer as to how you do it all! You are raising 4 kids, have a great relationship with family and friends, have a business, have loads of fun and make home cooked meals! Help, how can I do it all? Would be a great post! If I missed it please let me know.
Have a great day!
Mix and Match Mama says
Hahaha! Well…I’m tired a lot and don’t sleep much. I’m surviving day by day like everyone else :).
