My kids love any kind of mix to munch on, so this year, we made a Red, White & Blue Mix for our summer holidays! This is so easy and your kids can help every step of the way. I couldn’t find bags of just patriotic M&Ms, so I had my five year old sort and pull out all of the red and blue M&Ms from a large bag. Easy! We also jarred this up to pass out to friends (pic below). You could have them set out at a backyard party, pool party, give them to neighbors or take them with you when you see fireworks. Enjoy!
This recipe makes a ton! You’ll get about 12 cups worth of mix out of it.
Shopping List
4 cups of Rice Chex cereal
4 cups of popped popcorn
8 oz white candy coating or almond bark
1 (9 oz) bag of M&Ms with the red and blue sorted
about 2 cups of mini-marshmallows
Lay wax paper down over your kitchen counters to pour your mix on.
In a large mixing bowl, combine your Chex and popcorn together. Set aside.
In a microwavable bowl, melt your candy coating, stirring every 45 seconds. Once it’s melted, quickly pour it over your cereal mixture and toss. Working quickly, add in your M&Ms and mini marshmallows then pour the mixture down over the wax paper to dry (about 10 minutes). Once it’s dried, store in an airtight container.
Don’t you think your fireworks watching needs this too?

A great, simple idea for a themed snack! And you can eat up all the other m&m colours while making it! 😉
