Woohoo!!! If you missed it, last night, the Boston Red Sox won the World Series!!!!!
My dad and I had the BEST time watching them this season, so last night was a huge moment for both of us. I am so glad we were there on Tuesday night for Game One! Needless to say, I stayed up way past my bedtime and will be a little tired (and super happy!) today 🙂 . Meanwhile…on to today’s post…
Oh my word, I just love this time of year. You know that scene in You’ve Got Mail where Tom Hanks is taking the two kids to do all the fun fall activities? That’s how this weekend felt. Just like one fun fall thing after another. Here’s a little look…
Ebby Lee’s face is PRICELESS in this photo!! I have no idea what those four were doing back there…but she thought it was funny! On Thursday night, we celebrated my birthday with Tab and Erika and the big four kids at a German restaurant followed by a haunted house. Bowen and Ashby still told us they weren’t ready (and we agreed), so they had a fun night at home while the big four went with us to be spooked. (My sweater is HERE. I bought it last year but it’s still in stock. It comes in so many colors and is chenille!!)
Friends…over the last 11 years, I’ve said this approximately 14 trillion times on my blog, but German food is my very favorite food…
…happy birthday to ME! YESSSSSSSS!!! There is an authentic German restaurant in Plano called Bavarian Grill. We love it!
After that…
…we went to The Darkest Hour Haunted House…
…hahahaha! It was the perfect birthday!!
On Friday morning, the weather was beautiful, so after we got the big three off to school, Miss Madeley and I headed to Starbucks (we really do have the cutest location right by our house) and then hit up both Hobby Lobby and Costco before her friend Hadley’s birthday lunch…
Me: Madeley, is that your best smile?
Madeley:…
…how about this one, mom? Hahahaha! That girl!! It was a lovely lunch outside at The Yard!
Later that night, we headed up to church for our annual Trunk or Treat…
…this year, Andrew was a greeter at the entrance and Erika had her trunk decorated (with the big kids helping), so it was my job to walk around with the littles.
We had the best time!! It was so fun walking around and chatting with all of our friends. It was such a nice night!!
I got my snuggles in with the sweetest lil pumpkin!
Aren’t they so cute?!
Bounce houses, snow cones, candy and friends 🙂 .
I hope they’re making so many wonderful memories. I know this mama sure is!
On Saturday night, my parents hosted my birthday dinner with family. Isn’t the table pretty? There were four of them.
My beautiful grandmother and daughter.
We couldn’t stay away from this before dinner. So many yummy bites!!
These two 🙂 .
When it’s your birthday 🙂 !
What a great way to end the weekend!
I hope you had a fun weekend too! Happy Halloween Eve Eve, everyone! xo
If you’re linking up for What’s Up Wednesday this week, our bonus question is WHAT’S YOUR ALL TIME FAVORITE HALLOWEEN COSTUME?

Shay, the World Championships for gymnastics are going on this week in Doha, and from the US women’s team, three out of the five team members are adopted (two were actually adopted from China!) It might be a fun viewing party for your family 🙂

I love that picture of you and Violet! I also love how her tight hat presses down on her eyebrows! Haha!

Happy Birthday Shay! What a fun weekend! You guys always know how to make the very best out of fall. Now that those festivities are over and the Hallmark channel has officially started showing Christmas movies- are you in full Christmas mode yet?
Connie says
I’m glad you had a great birthday weekend Shay! I was rooting for the Red Sox too! After all there are a few players who were once Detroit Tigers on the team now. Ha! ?

Madeley’s smile!! Is she going through the awkward smile moment?? Also your grandmother is stunning! I watched a Hallmark Christmas movie yesterday and thought of you all! Happy belated Birthday!
Tamra says
Happy Birthday, Shay! I don’t know how it could have been any happier for you, considering you’re surrounded by such a joyful group! As for delicious food, my nationality is half German so I grew up eating that type of food, and later shadowed my mom and grandma so I learned to cook many German meals and unique desserts. Those are always my go to for comfort food – great memories as well? Finally, I must say, your grandma and mom are just beautiful. It’s obvious their beauty comes from within as they have a gentle spirit that appears to radiate around them. You and your daughter are blessed with those gifts, as well?
Kristin B. says
Love that picture of those sweet girls! I was thinking last night during the game, what a wonderful birthday it would be if the Red Sox won! So glad they did… and so glad you had such a wonderful birthday weekend!! I have wondered about German food- now you are making me definitely want to give it a try!
Lauren chitwood says
Hi Shay, I hope you had the best birthday weekend. I wanted to ask you what color you had on if the chenille sweater. It looks like pink or the champagne but I love love love it in that pic of you!!
Thank you so much! Hope you have the best week
Mix and Match Mama says
Mine is from last year and it’s more oatmeal. I bet the champagne is a close match!
Lauren says
Also, what day are you planning on doing your Christmas stuff this year? I know you’re a planner 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
Hahahaha! November 16!
Nancy Wempe says
I’m curious about the platters or maybe bread boards that your mom used for the different appetizers? Any idea where she got them? Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
I’m going to say either Home Goods or Williams-Sonoma if I were guessing!
Anna says
Seriously, your plans are fall activities goals!!! It looks like you had the best weekend and such a happy birthday!
Leanne Gilchrist says
Shay, happy birthday! What a full, glorious weekend. Speaking of the Sox, we have a SUPER HUGE Dodgers fan at church, and he was sure they were going to win. Dang, he’s so sad! LOL. I bet Boston is still celebrating. Kensington got her braces off! The charcuterie looks amazing, it’s one of my favorite ways to munch. We love to have “spreads” for movie nights here. The thing that stuck me the most about this post was Ashby. I saw her face in that photo of her and Madeley by the pool, and I saw her easy, confident posture, and her eyes are so well adjusted, just a peaceful look about her. Your family is the cause of her security, and you’ve brought Jesus to her. (TEARS). I love it. Thanks for sharing your special weekend!
Anneka says
My husband goes to a yearly conference in Plano. We need to go to the German restaurant! It looks amazing. I grew up in Germany and love German food.
Amanda @ That Inspired Chick says
Such a fun birthday week!! That picture of Madeley giving her best smile had me laughing so hard! Sweet girl!

Shay, do you remember what lip color you had on in the German restaurant photo? It looks great on you! Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
That’s Stila in Perla! Thank you!
Liz Thorson says
I noticed Kensington is braces free, too! How exciting for her and how happy she looks! Is she done with braces or will she have another period of having to wear them? That happened for one of our sons and was in the orthos plan from day one!
Here’s to your favorite team winning the World Series! What a year for the Sox! So thrilled for you and your dad to have shared Game 1!
Your weekend looked to be filled with fun!?????
Kristi says
Help! I have our big family pictures and it’s casual wear, which sweater would you choose out of all the ones you’ve recently shared? I have them all in my cart. ?
Mix and Match Mama says
Did you see the chenille one today? I vote that one! There are so many pretty colors!
Marcela says
I noticed that your family has a lot of pools! How do y’all go about pool safety and making sure the kids don’t accidentally fall in?
Mix and Match Mama says
Lots of alarms on doors and locks that are really high off the ground.
Jillian says
What a great weekend! And when I saw the Sox won you were the first person I thought about haha. Also, Kensington looks so grown up without her braces! Congrats to her for getting them off! I am in month 5 of 12 with *adult* braces… I am 26 and am so ready for them to come off! But seriously, her teeth look great!
Jennifer says
Hi! Are you wearing Perla in the photo of you & Madeley on your Starbucks run? The photo where she’s sticking her tongue out & you’re wearing sunglasses. ?. I love that color on you! I want that color for me!
Mix and Match Mama says
I am!
Bri says

First – Yay Red Sox. I’m heading to Boston on Friday and it will be crazy there. Very excited to join in. I am commenting though to recommend a book for you. “The Tea Girl Of Hummingbird Lane” by Lisa See. It deals with a woman who grows up in a remote village in the early 80’s and her life which includes giving up her child who was adopted by American parents. It is a historical novel that deals with the growth of the village through the tea trade. It does sound strange, but it was a very engaging book. It may be a difficult read for you, but I thought of so many of your blog posts while I read it.
Erica says
Shay, I follow you from Canada so naturally I am a Blue Jays fan. However, it was sooo fun watching the WS and I was so happy to see Boston win. They are just such a likeable team and so deeply deserving of this. When they won, I immediately thought of how excited you and your dad must be. Baseball really is the best!!! Enjoy the celebration!
Lindsay Ward says
How has your chenille sweater held up? I am worried it will show wear, snags, ect. Quickly.,
Mix and Match Mama says
I’ve had it a year and it’s still as good as new! I hand wash it and let it lay flat to dry.
Erin Port says
Such a fun weekend and happy birthday again :)! A world series win is a fun birthday gift! I thought of you when they won! xoxo ERIN
