3 cups frozen blackberries (or peaches or canned apple pie filling, etc.)
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup sugar
1 egg
3/4 cup butter, melted
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Place frozen berries across the bottom of a greased (I use Pam) 8×8 inch baking dish. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar and egg with a wooden spoon until crumbly. Sprinkle flour mixture down over your berries. Pour melted butter over everything. Bake about 40 minutes or until browned and bubbly.
That’s it! So simple, right? And let me tell you…it was delicious! My mom also made it using canned peaches instead of frozen…this is seriously the most versatile little recipe. In fact, I bet you have all of the ingredients in your pantry right now. Go and bake you some cobbler!
And then send me a thank you email :).
Happy baking!

ummm…yum!! we lived up near seattle for a few years and one thing i miss (of many!) is the berries!! blackberries grow wild everywhere!! we would just go out into the field behind our house and pick them! this cobbler will be like a walk down memory lane!

My husband loves cobbler of any kind! I usually just use a box of yellow cake mix for the topping, but this looks even better and with much simpler ingredients!

I LOOOOOOOVE cobbler! In fact, that's one of my most vivid memories from when my son was born. Let me explain (bc I'm sure you wanted me to). We lived in Nashville at the time, and had gone to the Farmers Market and bought a ton of fresh blackberries. I went home and made the best cobbler ever with them, and then went into labor. I kept thinking about that dang cobbler and how I didn't get to eat it! And then was in labor for 18+ hours and was starving! After he was born, and we were settled in our hospital room, I sent my mom home to get the tupperware of freaking cobbler and bring it to me!! So yes, I love me some cobbler. Almost as much as my first born. 😉

I'm so excited you shared this recipe! It brings back some great memories for me. My late "Papa" gave this recipe to my mom and I years ago and it was always so easy to remember because it's basically the fruit, a cup of everything else, and just a little less butter.

I used frozen mixed berries….with a scoop of ice cream of course:-) Love that I found your blog! I'm a K-Stater like your hubs, so love the connection!

I loved the taste and ease of this but I must of done something wrong. I had a layer of melted butter floating on the top when I took it out of the oven and after sitting overnight it congealed. Gross. I scraped the butter off and ate what was left. The topping was soggy, not baked looking as in the photo. I stirred the flour/egg mixture resembled very small crumbs. Any ideas what went wrong?
Mix and Match Mama says
I don't know what went wrong??? I make this a lot (probably more than any other dessert) and I've never had that problem…perhaps you should cook it longer? Or next time, use less butter (maybe 1/2 cup instead).
Stephanie says
I had a super soggy mess both times I tried making this cobbler, even after reducing the butter and increasing the baking time/temp on the second go. So bummed because it looks absolutely delicious in your photo! Think I may try it once more before totally giving up on this one, so wanted to ask if the butter could maybe be poured directly over the berries and have the dry flour mix on top of that? Or does the flour mix need to be wet with butter to cook correctly?
Mix and Match Mama says
The butter on top of the berries is what gives the crust that golden sheen…this time, I think you should try my quick and easy cobbler recipe instead (click on cobblers in the sidebar to search the recipe or type it in the search bar). It's a similar recipe but slightly different…you and your oven might find this recipe works better for you!
Bailee McCann says
are you using 3/4 cup butter, or 3/4 of a stick of butter for this recipe??
Mix and Match Mama says
3/4 cup! So 1.5 sticks!
katie elizabeth says
Can you use fresh blackberries for this or do they need to be frozen? I definitely want to try it but only have fresh on hand…
Thanks 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
If you use fresh blackberries instead of frozen, let them hang out in a small bowl with one tablespoon of sugar first for about 20 minutes. This will get them nice and ready for cobbler. Enjoy!

So good! I've made this twice. Don't despair if it looks soupy or soggy after 40 minutes (some other posters had the same issue)!!! Mine took about an hour to start browning. Just leave it in until it does. It is delicious!!!!
The Goldmans says
Would you change anything if you used gluten free flour? Thank you! Can't wait to try this.
Sara says
Hi Shay, thanks for sharing this amazing recipe!! Do you use salted or unsalted butter for this recipe? (And typically?)
Mix and Match Mama says
I only use unsalted butter…it's a little sweeter :). Enjoy!

I just finished making it and now I'm waiting for it in the oven. Can't wait to taste it, I'm sure it will be delicious!
