Hold on people! I have a story for you today…
Last Thursday morning, I got up and it was kind of warm and drizzly out, so when getting dressed, I paired my shorts with my Hunter Boots (a.k.a. Wellies). I had a few minutes that morning before I took the kids to preschool, so I found this image…
…on Pinterest and decided to snap some photos of myself for our June Pinspired Linky Party coming up.
That’s me in my Wellies with my J Crew Shorts (of course!), tank and chambray shirt…perfect Pinspired stuff, right?
So, I finished up my picture taking and headed out to school with my kids.
Now, you know I love my Wellies. I wear them all the time, travel with them…they’re my favorite “non-wedge” shoe. A few weeks ago over on Sheaffer’s blog…she highlighted these Wellies…
…it was love at first sight for me. I wanted those lavender Wellies! I told Sheaffer two weeks ago that they were my favorites…but I wasn’t sure I could justify two pairs. And that was that…
…well, after I dropped off my kids at preschool, I decided in the car that I definitely needed wanted those purple Wellies, so I went straight home and ordered them online. That was about 10:15…I texted Sheaffer (who I was meeting for lunch at 11:00) and told her I had just ordered the Wellies. She was like, “Really? I knew you liked them but you haven’t talked about them in a few weeks.”. I told her yup, I ordered them and that I would see her at lunch in a few minutes. Well…
When I pulled up in front of the restaurant, Sheaffer got out of her car with a card and a big wrapped present for ME! Look what was inside…
…my sweet friend had bought me those lavender Wellies! How sweet is that?!?! And what are the odds that the day I finally decided I loved them enough to splurge on another pair…she would be meeting me for lunch with them?!?!
So stinkin’ sweet!
Inside the card, Sheaffer thanked me for some blogging advice, etc., that helped her fabulous blog get jump started last year. Stuff I didn’t think twice about but apparently, it meant a lot to her. So, my sweet friend bought me Wellies as a thank you present. I am so in love!
Since it was a rainy, drizzly day last Thursday, we both had our Wellies on (I switched mine in the car to my new ones). Friend feet. Love.
And then, after lunch, I came home and posed in my new lavender ones. Super cute, right?!
Don’t you wish Sheaffer was your friend too?!
Happy!
I didn’t want this to get lost in our Pinspired post next month, so that’s why I’m highlighting it today. I am beyond thankful for my sweet friend Sheaffer. I just love her to pieces (like I know you all do too). Did I need the Wellies? No. Am I super happy that I have them? Absolutely! But I’m more blessed and happy that I have such a wonderful friend in Sheaffer. I just adore her!
PS: Zappos refunded my order over the phone…I don’t have two pairs of lavender Wellies at my house right now :).
Tomorrow, will be my 52 Shades of Shay post…I’m talking about one of my favorite things…you better come back and check it out!
And if you want one more thing to check out…head on over to my foodie blog today to see how I turned my post popular recipe of all time into a Joe…

I'm so jealous! Despite how much weight I've lost, my calves are too to big to wear Hunters. Oh well, my hubby is probably happy!

Lucky you!! I'm in desperate need of some rain boots…it's raining like crazy here so I set off to work in my bright pink Mary Jane crocs so my leather sandals don't get wet!! 😉

Hey Nicole Lee,
Last Friday, I posted $3 lotion I love…I always use different price points. I didn't have Wellies until I was 30…I'm not expecting everyone to be able to afford them. I just blog about my life…and last week, those rain boots were a sweet part of my life.
Thanks!!
Shay

I went and bought some of that Vaseline spray on lotion last night. LOVE IT! Thanks for the suggestion! It definitely doesn't rain enough here to justify those boots, but they sure are cute!

Can you tell us what lipstick you are wearing in the last pic with the caption "Happy!"? It is a beautiful shade and looks great on you.

I love reading your blog, but when you "link" back to the clothes/shoes/jewelry you wear it just makes me so sad…..
You paid $550.00 for a watch?!!! That is 3/4 of my RENT for a month!!!
Your clothes you wore cost $218 (I added them up, including your shoes)….
That is a car payment, an electricity bill payment, or a student loan payment for me….
I think you have your priorities a little backwards.
Mix and Match Mama says
Usually I delete negative comments but for grins, I thought I'd address the comment made by Anonymous (who is too chicken to actually leave their real name).
For starters, I received the watch as an anniversary present. After you're married for 9 years, you'll realize that $550 is nothing compared to being a wife and a mom for 9 years (plus, I'm his business partner too…and I don't get a salary for that…a watch is nothing compared to the work I put in for free).
Secondly, an Old Navy tank top, shorts from J Crew (that I got 20% off) and a denim shirt isn't exactly couture clothing. I'm pretty sure you could consider that staple clothing in a wardrobe (and pretty timeless).
Finally, you have no idea what my priorities are…how much income I make…how much money I donate to charity, save, invest, give away to others…you have no idea. Making assumptions just makes you look ignorant.
If you want to man up and have a real conversation with me…email me at mixandmatchmama@yahoo.com. It's easy to hide behind a computer and pretend like you know what you're talking about…

You tell her girl 🙂 A a Christian I was wondering (since you mentioned it) if you tithe? I am not trying to get personal with your finances but it would be a great example to all if you did – what a great way to show your priorities! If you don't, feel free not to post this comment!!

Oh I just read the other comments and need a shades of shay on cleaning my house!! Do you have help? A schedule? Seriously – I need some help!!
Jenna {Real Simple Girl} says
What a cute story!! What are the odds you'd order the boots RIGHT before Sheaffer gave them to you?! They are perfection. The lavender color really makes your outfit pop! I really want a pair, too!! I love the fact that you and Sheaffer have such a great friendship! True friends are hard to come by!
Jennifer Cannon says
I occasionally look back at the comment section after i've read and commented myself, just to see what others say & the answers you give to questions. ( Which speaking of, did you see my question about what self tanner you use on your legs? No biggie! I know your super busy!)
However, seeing a negative comment like that makes this little 5 foot nothing of a girl want to get a little feisty.
I'm here to say that I believe in what you're doing Shay! You are entitled to live the life you are called to lead, and if that's buying a $40 dollar pair of shorts to gift yourself with, so be it! I can pretty much say with confidence without knowing you, that you are a person that gives back in anyway possible. You dont even have to clarify it, it shows in the kind of person you present yourself to be! There's always going to be someone out there who tries to steal our happiness, let them! You'll never win 🙂
You know what the bible says….
"It's not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth that defiles a person" Matthew 15:11
May you have a fabulous Wednedsay, because you are indeed, fab!
Much love to the Shulls!

Jennifer C…there is a reason you're one of my favorite people! Thanks for the support girlfriend! Lots of love!! XOXO
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh and one more thing Jennifer C.! The tanning towels I use on my legs are Dr. Gross's Glow Pads. They're wonderful!
Allyson says
Those are super cute Wellies!
I will say, your outfit kind of reminds me of that episode of Gilmore Girls when Lorelai takes Rory to Chilton on her fist day of school. Something about the shorts with the boots, I think! Hahaha. If you knew how much I love Lauren Graham and Gilmore Girls, you'd know it was a compliment. (:

The comment that anonymous made about being sad about what you buy is so ridiculous! Since when do people have to justify how they spend their OWN hard earned cash??!
Shay, you don't owe these people an explanation of how you spend your money! It's amazing how critical they are of you but I never hear one word about the absolutely disgusting abuse of spending that Obama is doing with our tax dollars!
Their entitlement attitude is what makes them "sad". Get over it people. Have a true crisis in your life so you'll have good reason to feel sad.
