Today, I’m showing you inside one of my favorite little rooms. This room is full of sparkles and sunshine, rainbows and unicorns, lots of tea parties, the occasional fit, cuddles, snuggles, and stuffed animals galore. It’s where my five year old will grow up…the room where she’ll sleep the night before prom, the day of her graduation and maybe even the night before her wedding. It’s pink and pretty and totally Kensington.
Welcome…
Behind this door lives the most precious girl I know.
I bought this door-hanger my first year in college and now, it hangs on Kensington’s door.
Come on inside! Please note the vacuumed carpet…I waited until it was nice and vacuumed before taking a picture ;).
For the new house, Kensington’s room pretty much stayed the same. We kept the same paint colors that we had in our other house, she kept the same dresser, armoire, pictures on the wall, chair and table plus we kept most of her bedding. She really liked her old room, so we were happy to recreate it. We did get her a new bed and end table for this house plus, I updated her sheets and throw pillows.
Lots of reading happens when we’re cuddled in that bed. My girl loves Fancy Nancy!
Pottery Barn Teen had some really cute pillows with cities on them…I bought her Paris, London and Boston. So perfect for Miss K!
This is the chair we had in her nursery when she was born. It is the most comfortable chair in the whole house. I slept many a night in that chair holding baby Kensington.
Her dresser and mirror.
My mom and Andrew painted her armoire when I was pregnant with Smith. They beat it up with a chain (to make it look distressed) and then painted it. When you open it up inside, it’s painted pink like her walls. She loves doing things at her little table and then that’s her ballet barre behind.
Kensington has a pink bathroom to match her pink bedroom 🙂
And one last look.
Here’s the deal with Kensington’s room…it’s usually pretty messy. Smith is my super neat kid. He wakes up, puts away his pjs, always wipes off his sink, puts his clothes in the hamper and places his toys back in their place. He might be in the military one day. He would do well in the military. Kensington on the other hand…is very into “playing” in her room…so it’s always full of everything. She gets out a million things, plays with it all week and we leave it…then on Sunday nights, we ask her to clean it up and we start fresh on Monday. These pics were taken Monday afternoon…you better believe it’s kind of crazy in there right now. I usually only have her make her bed on Monday mornings (so it’s nice and picked up to start the week) because the rest of the week, she’s playing on or in her bed as well. Now that kindergarten is about to start, I think we’ll have her at least make her bed each morning (I’ll let you know if that works out), since she won’t be home during the day to play on it (insert me sobbing here).
Hope you enjoyed the little tour :).

She has the perfect girly room that also allows for her to grow in. Very classy and love that her comfy chair is still in there, that's a good idea I'll try to remember. I'm sure she will have many fun memories in that room for years to come. Is it ok to say that I'm jealous of her private bathroom:) one blessed little lady! Next up, your room!!

Your kiddos have more "mature" looking rooms than my teens do! I think that must be a southern thing as I've seen that in several bloggers I follow. I'm loving those pillows in K's room. And I wondered where you hung the monkey picture! Looks cute. Do you have a cleaning lady? I HATE cleaning and can't figure out how I'd keep up with such a large house! I'm guessing your house is twice the size of mine!
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes!! When I opened my travel agency out of my house, we hired someone to help me clean. I had to find free time in my day to work, so this has really helped me out!

So I commented last time you mentioned making/not making beds that I also think it's silly to have the kids make their beds when they are getting back in them. But apparently my husband thinks it's important so now that Wyatt will be in kinder, he has to make his bed, too. How did they get so grown up so fast?!
Sarah Kuykendall says

Oh, gosh! – you sure did put a lump in my throat and a sting in my eye with your line about “where she will sleep the night before prom, the day of graduation…” You see in my home we just passed those fun milestones – my first born daughter is 18 ½ and in 23 days we will be moving her into her college dorm room.
You’re sobbing about soon not seeing your sweet little ones face around the house during the day and right now I have tears falling about soon not being able to see my young adult daughter’s face each night before bedtime. (fortunately she’s only 2 ½ hrs away and not states away – but it'll still be a big change in our house)
So you and I are on different ends of a spectrum, but each pulls at a momma’s heart breaking it so. Such exciting, yet emotional times. So much ahead for our children, young and older – whole new worlds await them. I still remember walking with my daughter, holding her little hand, into school on her first day of Kindergarten. It goes by soooo fast! Soak it all in!
And her room looks like a great place to grow up! Thanks for sharing!

Such a gorgeous bedroom!!! I am pretty much obsessed with the ballet bar! That's adorable! I think Reagan needs one!!!

I really like that you mention her room is normally messy. I always kept a pretty messy room, but I knew where everything was. Now my 5 year old little guy keeps his pretty messy with Legoes everywhere! But I love that he is using his room and his creativity to build and play. It's hard for me to stifle that creativity. I would never want to. So we ask him to clean up every now and again. Love your blog!
