What’s Up Wednesday {5/27/15}

Hey there Wednesday!
Today Mel and I are hosting our monthly linky party What’s Up Wednesday.  Sheaffer is over on her blog today recapping the Bachelorette (you should totally read that too!) and will join us again once the show has finished airing.
Here’s how this works…
…on the last Wednesday of every month, we’re going to answer these questions…

…in our What’s Up Wednesday posts (plus one bonus question!).  We can’t wait to go through your posts and see what you guys are up to this month too!  Thanks for playing friends!  Let’s get started…
1. What we’re eating this week…

‘Tis the season for burgers at our house!  I like to fancy up my burgers a little, so we make them fun (like this Taco Burger).  We’re also having several slow cooker suppers this week because Smith has a few baseball games and that makes it super hard to squeeze in dinner (thank you slow cooker for doing the work for me!).

2. What I’m reminiscing about…

In less than two weeks, this girl turns three!  And next week, it’s our 5 month anniversary with Ashby, so I’ve been reminiscing a lot lately about the first day we got her.  This picture was taken about 2 hours after we received her.  It just takes my breath away when I imagine how far we’ve come during these last five months.

3. What I’m loving…

I am in love with my Shoreline Converse :).  I was wearing my regular Chuck Taylors so much that I decided to buy a second pair…but this time, I went with the Shoreline style.  I love them both, but I think this particular style is just a little more summery (because some of your foot peeks out).  I walked all over Boston in these babies and my feet felt great!  At home, I typically don’t wear socks with them but on my Boston trip, I did wear these no-show socks.

4. What we’ve been up to…

This has been a big month!  We’ve had swim lessons, doctor visits, Smith graduated pre-school, I went to Boston, we’ve played outside any time the sun popped out (which has been a rare occurrence these days!) and much more.  We have 7 days of school left and then we’re going to live in our swimsuits until the end of August.  Praise the Lord!

5. What I’m dreading…

Ashby has a doctor visit today and tomorrow, and I hope they both go smoothly.  We are going to see an ENT today because despite our best attempts at getting these nosebleeds under control…they’re still occurring quite frequently and not just at night but throughout the day too.  And then tomorrow, we drive to Dallas to get started on some therapy for her Vascular Malformation.  I just pray both appointments go well.

6. What I’m working on…

Hey!  So far, I haven’t killed anything in my little garden.  In fact, I’m actually starting to enjoy some of its bounty!  Three cheers for me maintaining a garden almost a month ;).

7. What I’m excited about…

S-W-I-M-M-I-N-G!  My kiddos and I cannot wait for these last 7 days of school to be over with so that we can enjoy the time outside together at the pool!  Bring on summer!

8. What I’m watching/reading…

Last week, I posted my May Book Review.  Right now, I’m on my second book of this next month.  I picked up my last Liane Moriarty book and will review it and a few others later in June.  I’m reading this one right now…
The Last Anniversary.  Unless I somehow missed one somewhere, I think after this one, I will have read all of her books.  Love them all :).
9. What I’m listening to…

…here’s how I got to The Beatles this month…

1. I watched the finale of Scandal
2. Olivia found her “sun” (if you watch Scandal, you know what that means)
3. Andrew and I looked on Google to see which rendition of Here Comes the Sun they used (because it wasn’t The Beatles)
4. We located said rendition and then started talking about The Beatles (who originally wrote and performed the song)
5. And then it made me want to listen to The Beatles a little…so I have been.

The bottom line is that I’m apparently greatly influenced by Scandal ;).

10. What I’m wearing…
I’m in love.  If you invite me to any patriotic gathering this summer, you will see me in this…

…this tank totally surpassed my expectations!  I loved it so much that I went ahead and ordered it in white too (I bought smalls).  Love, love, love it because it’s longer, not sheer and not too clingy.  The fabric is thicker than a basic shell or tank and it’s per-fect for summer weather.  In.love.

I’m wearing the tank with my turquoise necklace, J Crew white jeans and these super comfy Jessica Simpson wedges that I grabbed on sale last week (also in black!).

A comfy wedge (seriously, they’re very comfortable!) and toes painted in my favorite polish (OPI Mod About You).  Bring on the summer outdoor parties!

11. What I’m doing this weekend…

My little man has a baseball game on Saturday afternoon and then on Sunday afternoon…
…my dad and I are going to watch the Red Sox play at Texas (they’re in town for a four game series, so we’re going to go Thursday night and Sunday afternoon).

12. What I’m looking forward to next month…

I’m going on a little weekend getaway with this guy :).

13. What else is new…

Someone we know has a 3rd birthday coming up!  Ashby is my first summer birthday baby…so it’s a whole new ballgame in the party department.  We are super, super excited to plan her party and celebrate her big day.  The only downside is that we just finally got her to understand that she is two years old…sigh…now, we need to work on the whole three thing!

14. What’s my favorite thing to grill next month?

We are grilling fools at our house.  If it can be grilled, we throw it on (even some desserts!).  Click here to see my favorite food from the grill.

That’s what’s up this Wednesday!  What’s up with you?  I can’t wait to read through your link ups below.  Add your blog and play along below!

On my foodie blog, a little lunch recipe (or side dish)…

…it’s my Lettuce Wrap Pasta Salad ;).

Enjoy!

  • Sarah Shaneyfelt May 27, 2015 at 1:13 pm

  • Rick and Angie's Family May 27, 2015 at 1:36 pm

I am praying for your sweet Ashby and that you will find answers today. I don't know if this will apply in your situation, but two of my children have a blood disorder called Von Willebrand Disease. One of the major symptoms is unexplained nose bleeds. It is a blood disorder where your body does not produce enough of the clotting factor Von Willebrand Factor and therefore, you do not clot the way normal people do. My son would get nose bleeds that would last for hours sometimes and if he got them at night, it would look like a crime scene in his bed. Once diagnosed it can be very manageable, but doctors often miss it. My daughter had different signs on and off for 12 years before a wonderful doctor finally tested her. We were so grateful. Praying for ya'll!

Happy almost birthday Ashby! I've loved reading about her and how much she's grown and developed her own little personality. Those taco burgers look so yummy that I have to try them! Also – I've been debating getting those converse and I think I need them after seeing how cute they are on!! And since I first read about you wearing OPI Mod About You, I went and got a bottle and it hasn't left my toes since – love it!

In regards to your tank top…It's *sheer*, not shear. You have a degree in journalism?!??!!

    • Mix and Match Mama May 27, 2015 at 3:24 pm

Crap! I hate when I do that!! Correcting it now! Thanks for pointing it out. It's a good thing I didn't major in spelling ;).

    • Anonymous May 27, 2015 at 6:55 pm

Love your answer Mix and Match Mama!! #shayhasclass
(I wonder what it's like to be perfect?)

    • Anonymous May 28, 2015 at 6:04 pm

One tiny error in the whole blog.. Considering how often/how much you write on here I'd call that a success!

  • Blake Callahan May 27, 2015 at 2:45 pm

    1. Those wedges are so cute!
    2. Have fun watching your Red Sox this weekend!
    3. Can't wait to read The Last Anniversary!

  • Jenny May 27, 2015 at 3:06 pm

I haven't read anything by either of those authors. Maybe this summer! πŸ™‚

  • JJaz May 27, 2015 at 3:10 pm

Hi Shay, where is your denim jacket from in your red, white and blue pic? Thanks in advance!

  • The Boutelle Family May 27, 2015 at 3:24 pm

  • mel @ the larson lingo May 27, 2015 at 3:38 pm

I read the Last Anniversary in March….it is SO good! I loved all of Liane Moriarty's books! She needs to come out with another one! I can't wait to see what theme Ashby has for her birthday! Luke is an August baby…so many fun summer themes to choose πŸ™‚
And, way to go on your garden! Keep up the good work πŸ™‚

  • nichole May 27, 2015 at 5:50 pm

So excited about the Sox game – we'll be there on Sunday too!

  • Anonymous May 27, 2015 at 7:32 pm

I'm curious… How will Ashby do with a weekend without you and Andrew? Will she be totally content with Kensington and Smith? Love love love reading about your sweet family! πŸ™‚

    • Mix and Match Mama May 27, 2015 at 7:58 pm

You know, our main focus over the last five months has been attachment…and I really think she's doing so well :). We have each now left her and returned (Andrew to Africa and me to Boston) to sort of test the waters, and she's done great. Part of attaching is understanding that people return. I think a long weekend at the six month mark is a great way to celebrate our success so far. And let's be honest, she'll be super great with her big sister and brother by her side. πŸ™‚

  • Becky @ Little Loud Life May 27, 2015 at 8:48 pm

Can't wait to see how cute Ashby's party is! And sending prayers for her appointments too. Thanks for hosting such a fun link up today!

  • Vicki Watt May 27, 2015 at 9:01 pm

There is one more Liane Moriarty book that I'm not sure if you have read. It is called Three Wishes. It is her first book – I haven't read it yet but it is downloaded ready to go!! Love her books πŸ™‚

    • Mix and Match Mama May 27, 2015 at 9:11 pm

Yes! That was actually the first one I read of Moriarty's! I loved it!!

    • Anonymous May 27, 2015 at 11:27 pm

I can't find The Last Anniversary at my library- is this one of Liane's super old? Or just released?! Thanks πŸ™‚

    • Mix and Match Mama May 28, 2015 at 12:12 am

It was her second book, so yes, it's older. I bought it on Amazon.

  • Leigh May 27, 2015 at 6:00 pm

Praying all Ashby's appointments go smoothly! I have two boys, both with June birthdays. You'll have fun planning summer parties! First up for us in June, a party at the splash pad!

  • Jeanie May 27, 2015 at 11:23 pm

You have a great life! Best of luck with the doctor appointments. Ashby looks so different now from when you first got her. That picture of her looking scared and sad makes me sad. So glad that she's a happy little girl now.

  • Andrea May 27, 2015 at 11:51 pm

Which one is your absolute favorite? I just got done reading The Husband's Secret and loved it!

    • Mix and Match Mama May 28, 2015 at 12:11 am

I loved that one too!! Read The Hypnotist's Love Story next :).

  • Jamie {the celebrating momma} May 28, 2015 at 12:42 am

I can 't wait to try the book recommendations! I need a new book for some light summer reading!
Yay for weekend getaways! They are rare around here with my husbands work schedule and the kiddo but they sure are glorious when they do happen! Have fun!!

  • Jen May 28, 2015 at 12:48 am

I loved The Matchmaker! And I'm reading The Last Anniversary now, too!!!

  • Stephanie May 28, 2015 at 2:19 am

That taco burger looks delish! We will be eating your Sausage & Corn Chowder on Friday night. It is my hubby's favorite! πŸ™‚ Just love your recipes!

  • LINDSAY May 29, 2015 at 1:24 am

OPI Mod About You is my favorite too!!! Love! I also have been loving Essie Bikini So Teeny – if you haven't tried it I highly recommend it!

  • Happylife38 May 29, 2015 at 11:19 pm

Haha, I think Jesus may actually be my hair role model. Seeing how long it takes to blowdry, straighten or curl my crazy unruly frizzy wave mess, I'd welcome some limpness. πŸ™‚

  • Jaren May 30, 2015 at 3:21 pm

I can't wait because we are going to Houston to see the Astros play and most likely when they play Boston in July!! It will be my kids first big game to see!
