Happy Friday!
Boy, did I need one.
The stomach bug hit kindergarten hard on Wednesday, so we were just on survival mode for 12 hours. Smith and 10 other kids got it (11 out of 21!). Thankfully, everyone got over it pretty quickly.
And now…it’s Friday! Woohoo!
As always, I’m linking up with my favorite girls today (Narci, Erika & Andrea) and sharing my favorite things from the week.
These are Kensington and Smith’s jack-o-lanterns from last year :).
I read in a magazine this week that you should sprinkle pumpkin pie spice or cinnamon inside your carved jack and then when you light your candle, it will make it smell like fall. Um, that is like the best idea EVER!
Side note, one year, I walked up to my parents’ house on Halloween night and my mom’s porch smelled like a coconut. When I asked her about it, she said the only candle she could find was a Bath and Body Works Coconut Lime scented one. I mean…nothing says Happy Halloween like coconut lime, right?!
For the last couple of years, my kiddos have all slept on these Christmas sheets from Pottery Barn each December…and more often than not, when I post a pic of them, they’re already sold out. Boo. Well, have no fear…they just became available for this year…so, if you’re one of those people who love Christmas sheets (a.k.a. my kind of people!!), then you should go ahead and get some now :).
Annnnnnnnd…
Eeks! It’s Halloween sheets!! This year, PB Kids has Halloween sheets! All three Shull kids were super stoked when I put them on their beds this week :).
Um, last year, I told you guys about these leggings for bumming around. Well, they’re back at Gap. I bought blue fair isle design and a blue tank. I wear them around the house and when it’s colder, I might even throw my Uggs on and grocery shop in them. I mean…they’re such cute leggings and come in 8 different super cute patterns. Plus, they wash and dry really well! For a size reference, I bought XS in both.
And…right now, Gap is 40% EVERYTHING! Woohoo!!!
Promo Code: SMILE
And since we’re on Gap…
…remember how three years ago I bought the Gap puffer vest and haven’t shut up about it since? Well, yeah…they’re out again and I’m still a huge fan! At 40% off, I’m a GIGANTIC fan! For a size reference, I bought a small puffer vest.
Every year when my September issue of Southern Living arrives in the mail, I know that fall has officially started. This just makes me happy and is totally one of my favorites :). Bonus, this year, this lady was on the back cover…
…I just love me some Reese!
Apparently today, I’m talking about things I love over and over again every single year…like this fringe scarf…
…that I bought two years ago and wore so much that I bought it in a second color and even wore it on my 2013 Christmas card…
…yeah, well they’re back and available in 7 colors. My friend Lori said this and it’s spot on…this scarf just styles itself. You loop it around you twice and it’s perfection every time.
And my final favorite of the day is life changing.
Yes.
I’m going to go ahead and say this is life changing…
…friends, if you never make anything else off my recipe blog, please make this. My Apple Bacon Pancakes are out of this world. I’m talking blow your mind delicious. Your Saturday morning will never be the same if you make these babies.
Well, that’s it for Friday! I’m off to enjoy my weekend!! Have the best day!
xoxo

I was going to ask the same about your nail polish! Shay, some time you should do a post about how you paint your toes/nails…. I know it seems simple, but some of us are REALLY BAD at home manicures… 😉 Happy Friday!
Nerine says
I totally agree with this 🙂

I have been swooning over that scarf that you always wear for about forever now. I think I might just have to get it already 😉 Fall sheets, fall magazine, fall sheets, puffers, I MEAN…be still my heart. Have a great fall weekend 🙂

Love tried and true favorites!!!!! And that tip about sprinkling the cinnamon in the pumpkin is awesome! Can't wait to do that!

OMG! Those Christmas sheets are everything! Growing up my mom used the same ones from PB (now a bit more updated) for us in the month of December. Now I'm a 23 year old newlywed and she still does it! I have no shame in saying I get super excited to visit home for Christmas knowing she set up a room with them. Wonder if my hubby will be as excited? 😉
Side Note: Do you know where the striped shirt you wore with the Gap Puffer Vest is from? Super simple staple that I can't seem to find!!
Love on the Lake says
Oh my gosh, those PB sheets! What a cute tradition – my mom put patented flannel sheets on our beds for Christmas/winter and I still remember the feeling to this day of being so excited that it was time for those soft, warm sheets with the skiers on them. And I'm not going to lie….I may buy the Halloween sheets today. We don't have kids….so….. ?

Love the sheets! I just ordered 4 sets! I really wanted the Grinch set last year, so I am over the moon excited!
Tying the pancakes stat!

Can you tell me more about that green and pink plaid flannel in the scarf photo? I love it and am looking for a feminine flannel this fall! Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
I wish that one was current! I believe it's from Old Navy (or maybe Gap???) from several years ago. Boo.
Sarah says
Thanks for the reply! I'll keep looking 🙂

Can I just say, I love love when you post things that are both on affordable AND on sale! I love your style, but being a newlywed and on a teacher salary, I often have to just look on in awe without buying. So I love when you post about things you like that end with AND it's 40% off! 🙂 Thanks! Happy Friday!!

Love those Christmas sheets! So cute!! Only 98 days until Christmas, so it won't be too long until you're breaking those bad boys out!
I see a new Friday Favorite in your near future… have you seen the Target Ad yet for Caramel Apple Oreos?? Talk about Fall Lovin'! My plan for the weekend is to hunt these down and create some type of dessert concoction with them 🙂 I wish I could include a pic with this comment, bc if I could, I would show you the ad that I saw them on… they look so good! A golden Oreo with green and brown icing… cant wait to try them!!

I love that you put holiday themed sheets on our kids' beds! That will be a tradition I start whenever I have children. And I'm going to GAP this weekend, I will need to get some of those leggings–thanks for sharing!

Isn't it interesting that when I look at that family photo now, there is definitely something missing! It looks like Ashby should be right in front of you and Andrew. (Love the scarf and the color scheme, btw). I love your blog. It's one of the only ones that I have continued to read throughout the years. I love your optimism and your values. If moms got gold stars, I would give you one. 🙂

Random question for you! Do you still wear your J.Crew chino's? I haven't noticed them lately and I am in need of some Shay-spiration! Thanks!!
Mix and Match Mama says
Honest answer? I don't think I wore actual clothes that much this summer…if you'll notice, most pics I posted are by the pool (shame on me!). Yes, I do still wear them during the spring and summer and they're staples in my wardrobe…but I just didn't do a good job of actually getting dressed this last summer. We went from pajamas to gym clothes to swimsuits to pajamas again most days ;). If you're looking for great jeans, I've pretty much been wearing my J Crew Toothpick jeans 24/7! You'll love them! I buy the same size that I do in the chinos!

LOVE the pottery barn sheets, but they are expensive….any chance you know of some less expensive options? Thanks 🙂
AEndebr1 says
Target!! They have quite a few different options. Twin size sheet sets run for around $20. I can't wait to order the Red and White Plaid for myself (queen size runs around $26!).

I love those holiday sheets! What a fun thing to do. I will have to do that once my kids get out of toddler beds and cribs. Where did you get those London and Paris pillows from? Please tell me they are still in stock somewhere!
Unknown says
I am pretty sure that the pillow are from pottery barn teen…
Jaren says
The sheets idea is something they will remember forever! It's the little things that count!
Unknown says
Would've bought those Halloween sheets in a hot second, but they don't come in twin…what's up with that! Bummer 🙂
Sarah Kuykendall says
Heading over to PB to shop for sheets now 🙂 Are the leggings super fitted or a little loose? I think skin tight would make me feel claustrophobic at night!
AG says
Love those sheets but I just can't bring myself to spend that amount of money on sheets that will only be worn for one or two months a year!

We got hit by the stomach virus at our house this week, too. Kid #1 had it on Sunday. I thought the rest of us were in the clear but Kid #2 had it on Wednesday. I am on pins and needles. That is the worst thing about the stomach virus to me. You just don't know when or where the mess will begin. I'd rather my kids have strep. :O Is that mean???
One Night At McCools says
I love your jacket! Any idea where I can get one like it?
