Y’all…this week is kicking my hiney. Smith had baseball on Monday night, I spoke at my parents’ church on Tuesday night, we have baseball tonight and Andrew is out of town tomorrow night. Our nights are so busy this week! Because of that, I have used my slow cooker every.single.night this week.
You can see my busy weeknight supper recipes here.
2. What I’m reminiscing About…
My new jeans 🙂. Gap isn’t really selling the jeans I used to buy any more, so I had to venture out and find some new ones to roll up and wear this fall. And I found the ones my heart loves. They wear well without sagging (you know how sometimes jeans fit great and then two hours later, they’re loose and sagging and just not right), they roll up great but will also tuck into my tall boots, they’re super comfy and very affordable! Prepare yourselves…you will see me in these all fall and winter long :).
For a size reference, I bought a 26.
And unfortunately, those cute wedges are old. Boo. I hate that because they are really comfy and wish you could get them too!
Last weekend, we did Oktoberfest in our town with my parents and now this weekend…we’re doing it in their town. Oktoberfest times two! Woohoo!
If you can’t tell…I’m totally into Oktoberfest :).
I mentioned yesterday that I’m going back for another skin check in October. I’m going twice a year now. Listen friends, we have to do this stuff! If you haven’t been for a skin check in a while (or ever), make an appointment today! We shouldn’t dread this stuff. We should be proactive and take care of ourselves.
Lots of vacations! I’m always the busiest coming out of summer because everyone wraps up their summer vacation and starts planning and looking forward to the next year.
Right now, I am accepting vacations for friends, family and current clients anywhere in the world and for new clients, I’m planning trips to Walt Disney World and Disney Cruise Line. I’m doing this different than in years past and so far, it’s been a great idea :).
The idea came to me back in June when I booked my family a Disney Cruise. We wanted to do something special with Ashby on her one year anniversary with us and my big kids reaaaaaaaallly want to go on a Disney Cruise, so we booked one for early next year. My clients love, love, love Disney cruises, so I’m excited to take my family on one too! And bonus…we knew we couldn’t celebrate Ashby’s one year anniversary with us without her very favorite person (BOWEN!), so the Slaughters are coming too :).
I decided to make it a Disney year and focus my new business on either Walt Disney World or Disney Cruise Line (because it’s so darn happy and fun!). If you’re interested, I’m now accepting trips through August 2016. You just need to email me at mixandmatchtravelagency@yahoo.com. As a certified Disney travel agent, I have sent more people to WDW and on Disney cruises over the last 3.5 years than anywhere else in the world…and there’s a reason for that…Disney is magical :).
Well, I know I sound like a broken record here but…I’m excited about doing all of these fun things with Ashby!

On Monday, I posted my September Book Review with what I’ve been reading this month. You can read it here.
And then last night, this debuted…
…how can I not love this?!?! I didn’t get home until really late last night, so it’s on my DVR…but I’m hoping it’s as cute as he is ;).
The real answer is that in my sick and twisted mind, I would like to be listening to Christmas music because it just makes me so happy…but…I’m refraining until November.
Lately you guys have liked when I posted pics of me heading to church…so, here I am last week wearing one of my day to day tops with a skirt. See…one top, two different ways…
And bonus…that top is 40% off right now :).
See, I don’t really buy new stuff for church…I just work with what I have and then repeat a lot!
Did somebody say Oktoberfest???
So…I joined Periscope a while back and haven’t done anything with it yet. Perhaps we could make dinner together some nights? I don’t know??? Are any of you on Periscope?!? I may or may not play around with it :).
We love having a spooky dinner prior to trick-or-treating! Most years, I make Ghoul-ash before we head out, and it’s one of my favorite little traditions. Then after trick-or-treating with friends, we come back and eat candy :).
That’s what’s up this Wednesday! I can’t wait to go through the link up below and see what’s up with you!
On my foodie blog today…
…Apple Pecan Bread with a Cream Cheese Drizzle.
You need this in your life.
Happy Wednesday friends! I hope you have a great rest of the day!

Love your restraint on waiting until November to bust out the Christmas music – I've decided that 3 months out (Sept 25) is the best i can do 🙂
The jeans are adorable and your recipe for Apple Pecan Bread looks amazing!

I can't wait to see your State Fair pics with Ashby!! I grew up in Dallas going to the fair ever year. It's my favorite fall tradition in Texas.
The jeans look great!! And they seem pretty reasonable, too. Nordstrom can have some great deals every now and then 😉

Kensington and Smith grew sooo much in a year!!! And I love your church outfit. The shoes are fabulous – how comfortable are they?
Mix and Match Mama says
As far as heels go, I think they're quite comfy :). I ordered true to size as well.

My husband and I have decided to book a disneyworld trip but we aren't really sure how far in advance to book it so I may be emailing you! I love how much you love this time of year because I am the same, my husband dragged me away from the christmas aisle at target this week ha!

Hi Linds—I am leaving for Disney in 2 days (!) and noticed your comment. This is a great time of year to go (end of September/early October, before Columbus Day) because of low crowds and great weather. I'd recommend booking at minimum eight months out; you can begin making dining reservations 6 months in advance, so it's ideal to have your trip booked before then. Disney is so much fun as adults without kids (and I'm sure it's going to be awesome with kids sometime in the future!). There are great restaurants, shopping and entertainment! Good luck!

Grandfathered was super cute! & Rob Lowe's new show, The Grinder, came on right after …. HILARIOUS!!!!!

Girl!! The Slaughters are stoked about our Disney Cruise! Well, we actually haven't told our kids yet, but Tab and I are really excited about it!!

That is awesome – I LOVE trips with friends!! We are headed to Disney next week for Fall Break and I am probably more excited than the kiddos!!
Sheaffer {Pinterest Told Me To} says
Those jeans are so cute!!!!! I clicked over to see what brand they were, and they are 25% OFF right now (being price matched)!!!!! Ashby is going to LOSE HER MIND on the Disney Cruise! I love it!!!!

I wish you had a YouTube-channel, sharing your recipes, baking with the kids, book-reviews, basically all the good stuff you share with us on your blog! But we'd get to see you and your family's sweet faces and personalities 🙂

Just do it!!! Am I the only one listening to Christmas music already. I can't help it. It puts me in a good mood. Bad day at work? The only cure is Nat King Cole. 🙂
Kelly @ Familiar Joy says
I noticed your profile name because we live in the same town! Small world! ? And Shay, we are doing a 2 week Disneyland trip with our kiddos next summer. Any chance you are able to help with those? Or is it just WDW?

Jeans are sold out in 26 and 27. ?

Tell me more about the State Fair. We're headed there next week with our 3 and I am clueless. How many food/ride coupons do you generally suggest buying? There is a deal with 100 of them; is that enough or are the food/rides pretty expensive?
THANKS!!
Mix and Match Mama says
We never buy enough and always have to go back for more. My biggest tip is to check the special of the day. You can save so much money by following that day's special deal! Have fun!

Thanks :)!!

We are headed on a Disney Cruise just before the new year. I'd love a post about your must-do's and tips! 🙂 🙂

As a reader, I am over the moon excited for your family. Praying for guys and thank you for being the inspiration that you are, Shay! And PLEASE PERISCOPE!

I linked up today and in my post I said how I'm struggling with jeans- and as soon as I read your post I clicked on over to nordstrom and bought your's! They were out of a bunch of sizes so I'm hoping I can squeeze into 25s. But at 25% off I just had to try! I love your fall/winter style board on Pinterest and pin a bunch of your pins! And in a few years I would def love your help planning a WDW vacation for my fam!
HannahH says
Yes to periscope! Love it!

oh- and I go to the dermatologist every 6 months too- I had melanoma in 2004. Prior to that I went once a year. I always get stressed before the appt bc I don't want any bad news but as soon as it's over I breathe a big sigh of relief until the next appt! Skin checks are sooooo important- hope yours goes well!

We just went on our first Disney Cruise this past July. It was just the three of us – My husband, myself and my 10 year old daughter. It was a 5 night cruise on the Dream. I have tons of pics, a video I put together and tons of tips. Email me if you want any tips or suggestions or see my pics! 🙂

A Disney Cruise is on my list for must do vacation. We actually leave TOMORROW for Disney World.
Do you work with independently or with an agency. My TA is local to me, here in southern Indiana, but her agency is based out of McKinney.
Mix and Match Mama says
My independent agency is based out of my house :). Woohoo! I work with a travel company though based out of Florida. It's the best of both worlds! Have so much fun in WDW!!!!!

So my daughter is doing a community theater Christmas play/musical this year. She is in the process of learning her songs, which means it is Christmas music 24/7 in our house already…but I tell you, she is gonna be the cutest little Rudolph I've ever seen.

Love those jeans!! And LOVE Oktoberfest! I'm due any day with my first baby, so we aren't going to make it this year. (Yay for October babies!)
Nina Fullerton says
I love love love those jeans!! I'm wondering though about the color/wash- they look much lighter on the website link than in your pictures (I prefer the darker wash in your picture much more!). Are they the same and just look lighter on the link? Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
I bought the exact ones that are on line. I think they look a little darker in person than online. I've worn them three times this week! They're so comfy!
Jana says
The link isn't working for me :(. What style are they?
Rachel - Floral and Fudge says
I love your church outfit! You always look beautiful!
The apple pecan bread sounds delicious.
And a Disney Cruise with the Slaughters—perfect! 🙂

I so hope to bring the kids back to the state fair again this year! Last year we were first timers but I think I would have a better plan this year. I signed up for periscope to secure my name but really haven't even jumped in to figure out what the heck it's about!! Making dinner sounds like a perfect plan!
clatk says
I am taking my 3 kids for the first time next week! Will you share your "better plan?" I would love any tips :)!

I love Gap jeans too…and I just went to order a new pair and realized they must have discontinued them!! The 1969 always skinny were my fave. I will have to try out your new pair!

Hi Shay! The jeans are sold out in my size 🙁
They look almost exactly like the ones you love from J Crew in the picture you posted. Can you send the link to the j crew ones so I can check them out?? I need new Fall jeans – that is my mission this week! thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
It's the J Crew toothpick jeans!! 🙂

What is your opinion on the best age for a toddler's first trip to WDW? We are struggling if we should take our 2 year old next year or just wait a few years until we have baby #2.
Mix and Match Mama says
I'm probably the wrong person to ask because I took babies on all of my vacations! That being said, if it's the right time for you to go to Disney, then go. Yes, you'll probably have to go back when baby #1 is older and baby #2 is here…but if you want to go, then go. Disney is just as much for adults as for kids!
clatk says
We have taken our children 3 different times, and 3 year olds truly find it SO magical that I would highly recommend it. We have gone when all 3 of ours were 3, and I have loved it!
Anna Lazar says
Good advice, thank you!!
Leigh says
We are going to Disney World in 2 months and I can't wait!!!! Our fastpasses are booked and I even scored a fastpass for Anna and Elsa. Yay!!!
I am so disappointed Gap discontinued all the jeans styles I loved. I am not a fan of the new styles. I was talking to the manager at my local store about it not long ago who said I am not alone in my disappointment.
I'm on Periscope and right now I only follow 3 people. If you decide to Periscope let us know. I've never done one, only watched.

Hi Shay! Love reading your blog! Good luck with your skin check! I go every 6 months also and have already had 4 different surgeries to remove 4 spots of basal cell carcinoma – with 3 of those on my face. I also have a 2nd spot on my chest that I need to schedule surgery for. Scary stuff. Wish I had known the importance of sun protection when I was younger. Will be thinking of you!

Honestly, I don't know if I'd do periscope. Too many creepers out there. I have watched a few of different people's and there is always some weirdos commenting. Stuff like that just isn't safe these days sadly.
Leigh says
Shay, would you share the details on your purse in the church-outfit photo? It looks large and fabulous. Thanks!
Jaren says
I was just looking into a Disney cruise yesterday. I also looked up a Holland America Mediterranean cruise for my husband and I. I just keep telling myself to be brave, be adventurous, and yes I can leave my babies for 12 nights to do it. Oh and I joined Periscope recently too! I'm Diary of a Recipe Collector (@jarendubois). I haven't posted a video, but I love the whole idea of it. Fun! Fun! Fun!

Thank you for your fall inspiration! I'd love to be kept in your prayers: I'm currently 35 weeks pregnant with a baby girl after 3 miscarriages, and am praying I can carry her to full term and have a safe delivery. My sister-in-law just recently gave birth and had so many complications that resulted in heartbreak, so I'm looking for God's grace to carry me through so I can meet my baby. Thank you!
