Note: Blardigan is a term Sheaffer and I coined for this cardigan/sweater/heavenly soft article of clothing…it’s a cardigan that feels like a blanket…thus, we named it the Blardigan :).
Last year, I gifted my mom and mother-in-law blardigans and just last week, my mother-in-law told me that it was one of the best gifts she’s ever received. #becausetheblardiganisawesome
So, I bought the regular blardigan two years ago…
The baby sized one comes in both taupe and black while the longer draped version comes in 11 different colors!
So…today, you have a chance to win one for yourself and 9 more to gift! Woohoo!!
I’m smiling like this right now after all of this giveaway talk…
Andrew and I typically have lots of elf momentum the first five days. After that, we’re pretty much like…
“it’s your turn to move him”
“no, it’s your turn”
“I’ll empty the dishwasher if you move him”
“I’ll rotate the tires if you move him”
“I’ll paint the house, bathe the dog, wash the cars, mow the grass, do anything else if you move him”.
It’s coming up with the ideas that gets hard after about five days or so. Sign. #parentproblems
Two years ago, I documented our elf every day, so if you need a few new ideas, you can see them all here…
I love our ideas (see them here)…but I can’t keep doing the same thing every single year. So….I’m hoping that today, you guys will share some of your ideas! We could all use a few new tricks for that darn elf, right? Comment below and leave me some elf ideas…we beg you! By day 17, I’m.so.over.it!
🙂
Day 3: A Blardigan for you and 9 friends plus Sheaffer’s Pineapple Casserole
…now, here me out. It sounds like an odd little recipe but friends, it is insanely delicious (and simple too!). I’m talking, my friends and I all love it and make it this time of year. It’s to die for! See the recipe here.
Okay, blardigans for 10, Elf ideas for all and a side dish you can’t beat! Whew! What a Wednesday!

Oh yes- that elf…and he gets all the credit when the kids see what crazy things he does. LoL! Last night we used a can of spray snow and covered some of our windows in our kitchen. In the "snow" we made an elf, snowflakes, used cookie cutters for cute stencils, etc. So cute and fun!
Lisa @ Pork Chop and Possum says
So amazing! Thank You!
Sarah E Henning says
Today our elf wrapped up the items in their lunch boxes. I left him on the counter with scraps of wrapping paper and scissors. I can't wait to hear what they say about opening their lunch boxes!

Elf idea: put gift bows on your clock to cover the hours and minutes. Our elf was naughty that morning but taught kids to be on time.
Elizabeth says
I felt the same way about the elf in my classroom! One of my favorites was having the elf leave a little typed note on the computer (an email sent to you) especially if the weather is bad one day about how he/she couldn't make it back that night 😉
Kelly says
Love this! I gave the blardigan to my mother in law last year and she loves it! I think it's my turn!

This is our first year with the elf, so I don't have too many ideas yet. So far she has: brought new Christmas plates and bowl apon her arrival, drove the My Little Pony train with a pony riding in a car in the back, hung out in a bowl of candy and ate one, hid in a stocking, and since I was up all night with my 3 year old with the stomach flu, she was just found by my 5 year old watching over the sick one while sitting on top of the end table lamp. (Going on three hours sleep, so that about as creative as it gets, lol) I'm also going to have her take a marshmallow bath in their dollhouse and bring baking stuff to make fun Christmas cookies this weekend. Our elf is also brining a book of bible stories to remind them what Christmas is really all about! I am going to try to save the bigger, crazy stuff for the weekend so getting kiddos ready for school isn't too crazy,(well, it's always crazy, so maybe I should say crazier!)
klmoore23 says
What are those cardigans actually called?
Dawn Dannenberg says
Ps. I can't figure out how to tag you in the Facebook post. I type in, "mix and match Momma" but it doesn't tag…

Elf Ideas: We have older kids but they still love the elf! Some may be more appropriate for the older ones. 1) Tape him to the wall with painters tape. 2) Covered up on chair with thermometer and cough drops. This works well if you know you won't have much time in the next few days because he is "resting" to get over his cold! 3) Selfies on the phone or camera. 4) Tiny, elf-sized letter printed on the computer 5) Hanging out with Baby Jesus in the nativity. 6) Download elf themed music to itunes and have it pulled up first thing in the morning.

Our elf was sitting in our bathroom by the mirror with a little shaving cream on his face and with my husband's razor and shaving cream can beside him. He was also in the kids' bathroom holding an extra toothbrush with toothpaste on his mouth. And here is one that you can use for two days! Have him hold a sign about magic seeds (I am sure Pinterest has a cute saying for these) that the children are supposed to "plant" in a pot or bowl of sugar before they go to bed. The seeds are green or red tic-tacs. When they wake up, the seeds have turned in to Christmas cookies on a stick or a candy cane! He can have a new sign that says something about the seeds turning into a sweet treat for them to eat! 🙂

I'm going to do a "marshmallow roast" with some barbies for our elf this week 😉

I went to the grocery store and bought some things to make some Elf days easy. Some things I bought were Christmas Oreos, powdered donuts, small candy canes to hide, big candy canes to put on the tree to find, a box of cereal to cut a hole in a put the elf's head through instead of the character on the box, Christmas M&Ms to write a note with, Christmas handsanatizer to leave to not get sick, and a gingerbread kit. The easy ones for me are also just setting up scenes with games or toys that are already at the house.

I make that exact Pineapple Casserole dish every Thanksgiving and Christmas! It's my mother-in-law's recipe and it is DIVINE. The first time I saw what was in it, I was a little hesitant, but it is SO GOOD! It always disappears so quickly that I've had to start making a double batch!

A friend of mine posted a cute Elf on a shelf idea, "channeling her inner Buddy the elf" Her elf was eating spaghetti with syrup & candy. The note by it says: "I love maple syrup, it's my favorite food! If you were in the North Pole, what breakfast would you eat?"
I thought it was super cute!

Hi Shay, I have followed your blog for about 3 years now, love it and would love to register for all of your fabulous giveaways! However, I cannot because it won't let me "subscribe" because I don't have a yahoo account or gmail- only hotmail. I've tried following you and Scheafer on email as well and it won't let me. I really don't want to get a new email account so do you have any other suggestions? I meet all other requirements as I follow you two on everything else social media! THanks!

I type little notes for our elf to hold when we are too tired to be creative. I type them all at once with a personal reference to my kiddos. I use Christmas clip art and use tiny, thin ribbon to tie a bow after we roll the notes.

Two of my fave EOS ideas….last year he was strapped in the dryer with 3 barbies held in by painters tape, arms up like a roller coaster. A few years back the kids looked everywhere but couldn't find him. We headed out for school and lo and behold my car was sitting sideways in the driveway and he was buckled into the passenger seat….my kids still talk about it. This year our elf is bringing suggestions each day for a random act of kindness. For more ideas check out #unshelfyoelf2015 or 2014 on IG…my friend Holly and I would love for you to join the fun!

Would love to win a blardigan for myself and give some away!

I SO feel your pain on the elf thing!! Here's a tip… DON'T EVER GET ONE FOR EACH CHILD!!! Possibly the biggest mistake of my life! LOL! 🙂 A few easy ones we've done…throw them in the freezer (we put them in the ice cream box with spoons) and leave a note saying they miss the North Pole so they're hanging out where it's cold. Put a little green food coloring in the milk and maybe a few bows on the container and write "Elf milk" on it. The kids loved drinking the elf milk and it was super easy. Another night the elves put the Rudolph reindeer antlers (purchased at Hobby Lobby or Amazon) on our van. Then on another night, the elves decorated the front window of the van with gel clings that said, "Merry Christmas" (purchased at Walmart and they have them again this year) and everyone loved it! We were definitely the best dressed van in the carpool lot! Ha! The elves also decorated my girls' bathroom mirror with Christmas clings one night. I really like these ideas because you can use them year after year, just with different cling ons etc. Then you've probably seen this one but my girls just loved when the elves took the stockings down and replaced them with (CLEAN) undies from each person in the family. They thought it was hilarious!! Then last year my girls couldn't seem to stop arguing and fighting so the elves left a note midway through the season saying they were sorry but that Santa was too disappointed in all of their arguing so he told them they couldn't come back that year. It really impacted my oldest but elves are a privilege not a right in our house and bad behavior doesn't warrant fun with elves! We have already sent a plethora of "so sorry" notes to Santa and the elves this year with promises that it won't happen again. 🙂 Hope you guys have a very Merry Christmas!

Blardigan love!

Great giveaways!! Thank you! I love Elf on the Shelf and have way too much fun with it, but I have had those nights where I jump out of bed at about midnight cause I had forgotten to move him! Our elf's name is Howdy and here are some of our favorites:
– Wrapping the kids backpacks and leaving them hanging on their hooks!
– Smores – roasting a mini marshmallow over a burning candle
– Wrapped one of our toilets:)
– Made a snowman in the freezer
– Strung toilet paper from top cupboards down to kitchen island, strapped skis (popsicle sticks) to his feet and placed Howdy on top of cupboards like he was going to ski down
– The day after the skiing stunt he was sick with a broken arm. Arm wrapped in tissue with our friend's elves signatures!
– He was a mechanic working under a toy pickup with small tools
– He brought pjs one morning
– Red noses – Howdy put a dot of red paint on kids nose while they were asleep and when they woke up they went to find him with a note sitting beside him that said "Go look in the mirror"! They loved it!

We sat down and created a calendar of what our elf would do everyday (with the help of Pinterest). It has helped us know what we need to put on the grocery list in order to have things ready to go. It also helps with that last minute "what do we do". We are also going to put in things like donating food to a food bank, baking cookies for neighbor's, and other things we will be encouraged to do for others.
Melissa Gibbs says
We actually broke down and bought a (gasp) 2nd Elf. (Like remembering to move one isn't hard enough!). I just got to thinking about it and my kids absolutely love the elf…I realized they will both want to take him and pass him on to their kids. So last year we introduced "Ginger" a girl elf. Now both my son and daughter will have an elf to pass on to their kids one day. (How they handle that is up to them lol!) It is not so bad having two. They generally stay together and do some crazy stuff in a pair…
