San Antonio 2017

Happy, happy Wednesday!

Last week, we finished off summer with some of our very favorite people with another framily vacation.  This time, we took the whole gang (all 12 of us!) and headed to the J.W. Marriott in San Antonio for the week and it was GLORIOUS!

We slept in, we ate a ton of food, we stayed by the pool until it closed, we ate some more, we stayed up late and we laughed more than I have in a long, long, long time.  We had the best time with the Slaughter Six!!

I would like to say that I took a million pictures and have this well documented…but no.  I took pics on occasion (when I remembered to pull out my phone), and they’re pretty much a random and sporadic mess.  But isn’t that the best?  When you’re too busy having fun to remember to take pics?

Here’s a little look back at our time.  We left our houses at 6:00 AM last Tuesday for the 4.5 hour drive down to San Antonio.  We wanted to arrive before lunch, so that the fun could begin early!

Fish tacos and fries with my girl!  We made it time to check in and hit the pool.  We set up camp and then all ate lunch together.

As soon as I took a picture with Erika, this one wanted a picture too 🙂 .

We realized these two boys had on the same swimsuit once we arrived.  They were too busy riding a raft ride to sit still and wait on their lunch to arrive.  They rode until we waved them in because their food was there.

Same with these two girls 🙂

After lunch, we enjoyed the pool, the slides, the rides, the lazy river…all of it!  Madeley and Britt could not have been better on their first trip to the J.W.!

Love traveling with this girl!

After riding some rides, I came back and found this…

And one big group picture before we headed to dinner…in our swimsuits because that’s the glorious part about staying here.  #amen

The next morning, we were back by the pool…

This time, we stayed near this area of the park.  I love the look on Britt’s face.  Ha!

Two big guys heading to ride a ride!

I just love these three girls so much!!

These two are just so BIG now.  Where did our little babies go???

It was such a fun time getting to ride rides and hang out with my kiddos.

Down for the count.

Every day involved ice cream.

Ha!  All the silliness as we headed to dinner that night!  We always ate around 7:00 (the pool closed at 8:00).  Such fun times!

After dinner, I asked Andrew to carry my hat.  He did. Bahahahahahaha!

A framily selfie to round out day two!

I just love this guy.

Day three started on top of an armadillo.  Britt looks a little unsure about the fact that we’ve left Madeley in charge to hold her.  Madeley looks quite confident though 😉 .

My littlest love.

Out.  Again.

These two big girls wanted to sit and look through my Good Housekeeping.  They were so cute reading it out loud to each other and discussing the food/styling/whatnot.

And then the next picture I have is this one…us heading back home the next day.

That’s a wrap on Summer 2017.

Such a wonderful week with the Slaughter family!!!

I really like reading about your family’s outings and adventures! Makes me really wish I wasn’t an only child and also had a huge family to play around with!

Wow, this place looks amazing! I showed my husband a pic and said “we MUST take our kids there, they would love it!!” Out of curiousity and possible future planning, did you do two rooms or does the JW offer a room more accommodating for a larger family? We are a family of 5 and 1 room is too small for us.

    • Mix and Match Mama August 23, 2017 at 6:16 am

They let us all stay in one room per family!! We typically have to get two rooms or some sort of suite/larger room with six guests, but they allowed us to stay six to a room. We had two double beds and then at night, they brought us a pack and play and a cot. Everyone had a place to sleep!

  • Erika Slaughter August 23, 2017 at 5:35 am

The next time we go on a trip-I’m gonna set my alarm to remind myself to take pictures!! Having so much fun I forget, is definitely a good problem to have. :). You forgot to mention one thing-the Chicken Fried Steak!!

    • Debra August 23, 2017 at 9:03 am

Could you tell me where you got the darling fedora style hat you have on in one of the pics above? Thanks!

  • Margaret August 23, 2017 at 5:41 am

Looks like a fun trip. Going to recommend this place to my daughter after her husband finishes chemo. Looks like he could relax while their kids have some fun! Enjoyed watching you on Qvc .Hope you had fun. Enjoy your day.

Looks like a ton of fun. Would th j.w. Be a place for adults to vacation to as well or us it mostly families? Love framily trips!

    • Mix and Match Mama August 23, 2017 at 6:15 am

      I think so!!!!

      • Elspeth Mizner August 23, 2017 at 7:00 am

    • Lauren K August 23, 2017 at 8:05 am

My husband & I have gone without our kids & had a fabulous time! They have an amazing spa with an adults only pool, my husband loved the golf courses, & they have a great fine dining restaurant! I highly recommend the JW with or without kids!

The picture of Madeley kissing you with your hat on belongs in a frame, so cute

  • emily @ a little bit of emily August 23, 2017 at 5:57 am

That picture of you and Madeley kissing is the most precious thing!!! What a fun trip together!

  • Sheaffer Sims August 23, 2017 at 6:01 am

Madeley’s arm around you in that first pic of you two is so sweet! What a great way to end the summer 🙂

  • polly August 23, 2017 at 6:05 am

Hi there–You said you “set up camp”, but I didn’t see anything resembling nature or camping! Were you camping? Tenting or RV?

    • Mix and Match Mama August 23, 2017 at 6:15 am

Figure of speech…we just parked ourselves in lawn chairs with all of our swimming gear/towels/pool toys/ etc!

  • Narci Dreffs August 23, 2017 at 6:31 am

What fun!!! It looks like an amazing time! I loved every single picture! So glad you had such a blast!!

    Where is Ashby?

    • Mix and Match Mama August 23, 2017 at 6:52 am

What do you mean? She’s there! She’s in a bunch of pictures!

      • Michelle B. August 23, 2017 at 12:10 pm

Yeah Ashby is in like every family picture. She has glasses now and looks too cute!!

      • Karen Cee August 23, 2017 at 4:58 pm

Oh sorry about that. Haven’t had time to catch up on blogs. It’s the glasses that made me miss her. She looks adorable. My apologies if I sounded rude. I didn’t mean it.

        • Mix and Match Mama August 24, 2017 at 6:26 am

Not one bit!! She looks so grown up in the glasses!!

  • Angelique August 23, 2017 at 6:55 am

We went to the J.W. Marriott this summer too! It was the best quick vacation for us. Our kids loved the pool with the sandy beach. Hours of uninterrupted (and somewhat peaceful) fun! I highly recommend it too!

  • RockHound August 23, 2017 at 6:59 am

So were you there a week or just three days? Hard to tell. I personally think staying there 3 days is plenty (I have been there before).

    • Mix and Match Mama August 23, 2017 at 7:33 am

Three days! Arrived Tuesday and left on Friday.

  • kathy Olson August 23, 2017 at 7:04 am

I love your friendship! And I agree, that photo of you and Madeley should be framed:)

  • sydnee August 23, 2017 at 7:12 am

Their water facility looks awesome, my kids would love it!

  • Megan August 23, 2017 at 7:16 am

The best part is all of the napping pics! We almost stayed there when visited San Antonio last spring break. Now I wish we had. It looks perfect for families!

  • Karah Stracener August 23, 2017 at 7:21 am

It looks like y’all had a wonderful time! What a fun way to end summer. I’m so sad summer is over but I’m so ready for cooler weather. It’s been super hot this week in East Texas.

  • Danielle August 23, 2017 at 7:51 am

Looks like fun! Question–do you wear a sunscreen on your face other than the Clinique when you’re at the pool or beach? I feel like I need one even though sunscreen is in my moisturizer and makeup but haven’t found one that’s not greasy. If so, what do you use?

    • Mix and Match Mama August 23, 2017 at 12:23 pm

I have it in my bag and reapply throughout the day!!

  • Laci August 23, 2017 at 8:04 am

Looks like a blast!! Great way to wrap up summer!!

  • Mary August 23, 2017 at 8:20 am

In one of the photos it looks like Bowen and Ashby are prom posing. So cute!

  • Angela Ellingson August 23, 2017 at 8:30 am

What FUN! Such a great end of summer trip! Have you guys ever done Sea World or the Riverwalk in San Antonio? 🙂

    • Mix and Match Mama August 23, 2017 at 12:23 pm

We did a few years ago!

  • Mary W. August 23, 2017 at 8:46 am

San Antonio is one of our favorite places to visit as a family!! We love the downtown area, but I want to check out some of the hill country resorts next time. It’s amazing to me, even as a Texan myself, how big the state is… it takes me 3 hours to get to SA and 4 hours to Dallas!

  • Jas August 23, 2017 at 8:50 am

Can you tell us where you got your pink pool bag with the orange straps? Thanks!

  • ashley August 23, 2017 at 9:25 am

Oh man! The picture where she is holding up the brim of your hat to kiss you! Tooooo cute.

  • Melanie S August 23, 2017 at 9:37 am

That sounds like such a cool place, and everyone looks like they had so much fun! Even Andrew in his straw hat! 😉

Can I just saw how dang cute that pic of the kids is where Bowen is holding Ashby around the waist? I mean….

  • Emily August 23, 2017 at 10:00 am

Erika seriously could be Danni’s twin from Southern Charm!!

    • Mix and Match Mama August 23, 2017 at 12:22 pm

      I totally agree!!!!

  • amy August 23, 2017 at 10:14 am

We always went to the Hyatt Hill Country when my boys were little and always fun to go with other families. We would camp out by the baby pool area with our littles and the bigger kids would float by and wave and touch base. It was always one of our favorite trips and we have the best memories. No need to leave the resort as there was so much fun for all ages from sunup to sundown.

  • Gabrielle Storey August 23, 2017 at 10:27 am

Looks like so much fun! Love love that hotel! It is so beautiful and so fun! Enjoy these last few days before Monday!

  • Jennifer August 23, 2017 at 11:02 am

Look at Madeley in the picture where Erika’s son is holding Britt. Looks like the water is coming out of Madeley’s arms. Cracks me up!

  • Monica August 23, 2017 at 11:26 am

Looks like a great trip, so lucky to have such awesome friends….the kids sleeping pics are the best, I’ve taken so many of mine too, so adorable!!
