What do you get when you marry French Onion Soup with a Sloppy Joe?
This delicious supper!!
It’s a sloppy joe that tastes like French Onion Soup…basically, it’s perfect. Enjoy!!
This recipe serves four.
Shopping List
1 pound of ground beef
Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO)
salt and pepper
2 onions, chopped
about 3 cups of beef stock
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
Sourdough bread, sliced thick
about 2 cups of shredded Gruyere cheese
chopped parsley to garnish
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown your ground beef in a tablespoon of EVOO. Once browned, add in a big pinch of both salt and pepper before transferring to your slow cooker. After your ground beef goes in the slow cooker, add in your chopped onions, beef stock, Dijon and Worcestershire sauce. Add lid and cook on high 3 to 4 hours or low 6 to 8 hours.
About 15 minutes before you’re ready to eat, preheat your oven to 425 degrees. On a baking sheet, lay out four slices of sourdough bread. Remove the lid from your slow cooker and ladle a generous portion of the ground beef on top of each piece of bread. Sprinkle cheese down over the top of your ground beef. Pop your baking sheet in the oven for about 10 minutes or until the cheese is nice and melted. Remove from the oven and garnish with parsley before serving.
I hope this recipe makes your night extra warm and cozy! xo

I have this on my meal plan for next week! Can’t wait to try them! ?

Can this be done in the instant pot? I just realized it was for the slow cooker and it’s already close to dinner time….

Did you do it??? Let me know if you did!
Erica says
I did not–we ended up having frozen pizza 🙁 but I did find an instant pot recipe for just regular sloppy joes. I think it was high pressure/sealing/7 minutes on manual with quick release and then used the saute feature to thin it out some so I think I’ll try that this week sometime and I will report back 🙂

Please do!!!!

Ok I did this tonight in my IP, exact same ingredients. Sauteed the beef and onions with salt and pepper, added worechestershire, beef stock and Dijon. Then set it on manual for 7 minutes and did quick release. It was pretty soupy so I then turned IP to saute again for 10 minutes. We still had to scoop it on bread with a slotted spoon but it worked. Not sure if this was any easier but it sure was good!
