Annnnnnd it’s April!
Call me crazy, but I just feel like a new page was flipped and a new chapter has begun.
Anyone else get all sorts of energized when April hits? I start to channel my inner-Athleta model and want to be outside scaling rock-walls and surfing huge waves? Anyone else? Ha!
Today, I thought I’d share a little love and talk #allthingsandrew because…
…tomorrow is his birthday!
I met him when he was 21 and tomorrow, he turns 38.
Here he is on our “first date”. His parents were there. So were mine. And all four of my grandparents. And my brother. It was all very romantic.
I bet you can’t guess where we had just come from?! #allthepurple
Tomorrow night, he’s coaching baseball, so tonight, we’re celebrating the BIG 3-8.
He’s like my favorite person ever 🙂 .
I thought in honor of his birthday, I would share 38 things about Andrew. (He doesn’t know that I’m doing this…which will make it all the more fun!)
Ready, here we go…
1: His favorite color is purple.
2: He doesn’t like macaroni and cheese (which I just cannot comprehend).
3: He has three tattoos.
4: He must listen to The Ticket (a radio station here in Dallas) every single morning. Even on vacation, he listens to it while getting ready/working out.
5: He likes to watch The Real Housewives with me. Ha! He used to make fun of me watching it and then one day, he stopped and listened for a minute…and then he sat down, and then he stayed. And he’s never gone back.
6: He is very handy and can fix just about anything.
7: His degree is in Construction Science but has owned an insurance agency for 13 years.
8: If I beat him at a game, he doesn’t want to play it any more. We used to play Battleship…we don’t any more…
9: He eats lunch with all three big kids once a week at school (they all get a turn). My dad did this from kinder to fifth grade and now, Andrew does it too.
10: He will stir protein powder into anything and it makes me gag. He stirs it into oatmeal, yogurt, pancake batter…whatever.
11: He is the baby whisperer. Kids respond to him. It’s actually kind of crazy. He potty trained Madeley while I was away one weekend. When I returned home, she was even sleeping in undies. I was like “how did you do that?” and he was like “I just told her we were doing it”. I don’t understand.
12: He loves all the shows on TV that I can’t stand…but he’s also a fan of stuff like The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
13: He drinks a lot of coffee. Probably 4 or 5 (or 7) cups a day.
14: He has always been the one to bathe the kiddos at night when they were little. He’s down to his last kiddo to bathe and that makes him sad.
15: He goes to far away places once a year to share the good news about Jesus and pass out Bibles in their native language. He doesn’t like attention for that kind of stuff, but he does it and it makes me proud. He is going again this week.
16: He hates pickles.
17: He serves on three boards. I think they like to have him because he gets s*&% done.
18: He’s a really good friend. I see how he is with his friends, and it makes me want to be a better friend.
19: He has a weakness for pizza…and it always makes me happy when he wants to order one late at night after the kids are in bed. That’s us “being bad”. Ha!
20: He calls his mom and dad every single day.
21: He loves fajitas but hates smelling like them after he eats. I’ve never eaten fajitas with him without hearing him say “I hate smelling like fajitas”. Yet, he always orders fajitas.
22: He gets so happy talking about snowboarding. He’s practically giddy!
23: He doesn’t like anyone to eat in any car. Ever. Now, he doesn’t tell me what to do, but you better believe that anytime I eat in the car, I’m secretly thinking “oooohhh, Andrew would hate this!”. Hahah!
24: Every morning, he does chores. I see him out the window and he’s trimming something, fixing something, cleaning something…he grew up on a farm and even though he’s lived away for 20 years, you can’t take that “morning chore routine” out of him.
25: He is so fiercely loyal.
26: He eats the same thing for breakfast and lunch every day. Every. Single. Day.
27: He struggles with back problems.
28: He used to wear glasses, but for his 30th birthday, he gifted himself Lasik eye surgery and he swears it was the best decision he’s ever made.
29: He has huge glass walls that surround his office…and if you ever come and visit him there, you’ll notice that they’re covered in Expo marker…because he lets the kids draw all over his windows so he can see it every day.
30: He is a hunter. I grew up in an anti-hunting family, so this was an adjustment for me. I really think his favorite part about hunting is the calmness of sitting in the stand. He always talks about how quiet and still it is and how much he relishes that time.
31: He hates looking at a menu before sitting down at the table at a restaurant.
32: He likes wild swimsuits.
33: He is always right. It’s annoying.
34: He wakes up at 4:00 every morning. Even on the weekend.
35: He always puts gas in my car. I don’t even ask…it’s like he’s the gas fairy 😉 . The tank is just always filled.
36: He’s really careful with his time…he only likes to spend it on things that count. He’s a big believer in not wasting time on things you’re not crazy about.
37: He doesn’t like attention and will hate this list
38: He always puts Jesus first…and that’s what I love most about him.
Happy birthday, Andrew Shull! I love you so much!
