Happy November, friends!
I hope you had a wonderful Halloween weekend! Today, I have some pics from our Halloween at home this year. You know, 2020 has been terrible for so many reasons, BUT occasionally, it surprises me. This year, instead of meeting up with all of our friends and trick or treating multiple neighborhoods all night long, we had Halloween at our house with my parents and the Slaughters, and when we went to bed, I told Andrew that it was my FAVORITE Halloween to date! Instead of finding the “magic” out front, we made our own magic in the backyard. We had our costumes on (and this year, everyone dressed up!!), my mom brought all of the kids candy and Halloween goodies, we ate dinner and watched a little football and then we played two movies out in the yard…Hocus Pocus and The Sixth Sense and had a bonfire. Watching Smith, Nixon and Kensington watch The Sixth Sense was the highlight of my night. Bahaha! At the beginning, all three of them were saying it was boring and by the end ALL THREE OF THEM were sitting in an adult’s lap. I’ve learned a lot in 2020 and one of my biggest lessons has been that simple (meaning at home) can often be better. I didn’t take a ton of pics…but I did capture a few when everyone arrived…
Our sweet Ariel this year! She nailed it 🙂 .
Kensington and Ebby Lee always coordinate for Halloween but this year, Kensington wanted to be “scary” and Ebby Lee wanted to be “sweet”. They settled on…
Hippies. One super cute and one…a zombie. 😉
How sweet are these girls?!?!
He was the Grim Reaper. Sigh. I think he picked this costume just so he didn’t have to smile in any of my pictures 😉 .
Well, two years ago she was Anna, but this year, she wanted to be Elsa TWO (that was very important to her…not the original Elsa but the second one). She wanted the costume with the leggings and the ponytail 😉 .
It worked really well since her besties was already going as Anna 🙂 .
Last year, Halloween was so cold and raining, but this year, the weather was BEAUTIFUL!!!
These four are certainly getting big!!! Remember our first Halloween together…
Gang’s all here!!!
Your 1980s workout friends showed up to the party too!! For the record, he did have the original Richard Simmons shorts…they are hysterical, they are not suitable for the internet though 😉 .
Jane and Richard…sweatin’ to the Oldies together 🙂 .
Somehow, I do not have a single picture of Tab or Erika. What?! How did that happen???? She posted some on her blog too and they’re SUUUUPER cute!!! A
For dinner…
…we kept things super simple! I made my Pulled Pork Chili with a Caesar Salad, rolls and then a variety of dips. Erika brought pizzas for the kids and my mom brought dessert. It was perfect!!
Happy Halloween, friends!! I hope you all had a fun and festive weekend! Now…
… xo

Christina says
Wanted to let you know. I hosted a chilli cook off on Halloween and I won with your Pumpkin chili. Yay everyone loved it!!
Mix and Match Mama says
Yay!!!!! This makes me SO HAPPY!!!
Leticia says
Yes, the Pumpkin Chili has been requested, and for me to double the recipe!
Kim says
Great costumes! We also opted for staying home — I bribed my boys with pizza, ice cream, and a Halloween movie in exchange for trick-or-treating. It was definitely the warmest we’ve ever stayed on Halloween ?
Sheaffer Sims says
Your stretch belt has me ROLLING. My goodness I loved a stretch belt.
Lisa N says
You have created such a beautiful sanctuary at home, why would you ever want to leave:) We have all learned some lessons this year, but I hope the biggest lesson is what matters most!! For me, its, my faith, family and home…but it was before 2020, as I know it is for you too.
GIna J says
Can you please share what type of wood floors you have in your kitchen? I love getting decorating ideas from you . ??
Mix and Match Mama says
They’re oak! They’re stained “espresso”.
Gina J says
Thanks so much !
Tracy says
Great fun! Seriously haven’t watched Sixth Sense as to scarey for me!!
Tracy Abraham says
We listened to Christmas music on the way to school this morning. My 13 year old has been on a countdown to how many days till we can decorate. ? For us that is the Friday after Thanksgiving.
Anneka says
So fun! We did a little party with our besties too. Ashby’s arm looks fantastic in these pictures. I know it’s an ongoing process for her, but I see a lot of improvement. ❤
Mix and Match Mama says
Thank you 🙂
Allena Gurley says
We did a ‘progressive’ Halloween with our neighbors/besties – at one house we did a craft, at our house we had a pinata full of candy, and at the 3rd house we had a ghost (suckers) hunt. We had different food at each house (apps, pizza, then dessert) and themed drinks. We also ended up on a surprise hay ride some other neighbors put together. We all agreed it was our favorite Halloween too!
Allison says
Eeek! I think you meant Ebby Lee and Kensington always “coordinate” on Halloween…or maybe they do write to each other/correspond?? ?
Mix and Match Mama says
oh my gosh! SIGH! Correcting that right now! Bahahaha!
Lori Whittington says
So Ebby Lee was the only brave one to make it through Sixth Sense without a lap to crawl into?! LOL 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
Ebby Lee didn’t make it through the first five minutes. bahaha! She was smart and watched Hocus Pocus!
Karah Stracener says
I love all the costumes. You and Andrew nailed it. lol It sounds like yall had the perfect Halloween. I think we are all learning sometimes simple really is better.
Alison says
Looks like so much fun!! We kept it low-key too this year. 🙂
Teresa says
I did that Jane Fonda DVD for so many years! It was a good one, and I’m so tempted to pull it out again, but ugh.
Mix and Match Mama says
I swear my mom must have done it 1000 times too!
Lindsay @ Lindsay's Sweet World says
HAPPY CHRISTMAS SEASON TO YOU!!!! I’m already sitting here listening to my Christmas music while basking in the glow of my Christmas tree lights. Bahahaha.
Kelly says
Great costumes, everyone! I just love how you always seem to manage to make the best out of whatever life brings to you. Truly inspirational:). Now that that’s over, on to Thanksgiving and Christmas!!
Mary Jane McNeill says
I’m seeing a theme with Smith!! 🙂
Maggie Eterno says
How fun!! I loved our low key Halloween this year, too! And yes!!! Bring on Christmas!!!
Danna F says
Love to see all the costumes for Halloween! Your kiddos look so sweet, scary and they are having a good time. That’s what it is about…the fun, pretend, candy! I LOL’ed at your comment about Smith’s choice of costume (my son would have done the same to me)! Also, Erika’s son going as Patrick Mahomes…the wig! Speaking of, Hallmark has an ornament that is Patrick Mahomes. I got it for my college son who collects them. Have a great Monday!
joanne says
Sounds like a fun night! We had a fire in the fireplace and watched a movie with my mother in law while pigging out on ice cream and candy.
Megan says
Christmas music is playing and dinner is in the crock pot…what a happy Monday! ??
Kandi Barber says
Anna and Elsa – OMG – they could not be any cuter LOVE LOVE
Kandi says
That Slaughter kid NAILED Patrick Mahomes! Looks like fun times.
Perri says
I just want to say that I think it’s very commendable that you made the hard decision to skip trick or treating this year in the name of safety. It makes me happy to see that your family was still able to make great memories!
Denice Phillips says
I love how Kensington didn’t smile in any of those pictures! Great job staying in character!
Victoria S says
All of your kids are so sweet, but little Madeley posing with her hand on her hip just kills me. So cute!!
Addison says
These costumes are all SO fun! I had to laugh at your comment that the weather was nice. In Maine it SNOWED and was 30 degrees… sigh, 2020. Still had a blast!
Kristy Moore says
I so wish I could share a picture on here with you! I loved my costume this year (I went as the Operation Game since I’m having my appendix out December 3rd).
I agree with you that this Halloween was one of the best. Trick or Treating was outstanding! People were so creative with their candy chutes and so generous with their candy!
Once again, love seeing your family and their costumes. Please tell Smith that next year we want to see that smile!
Kelly says
This is very random but could you do a post on your kitchen countertops. Like, what kind of material (quartz, marble?) and what you like/don’t like about it – pros/cons. How to keep them clean and sparkly? Any tips on how to “treat” them etc. thank you!! ps you guys nailed it this Halloween!!
Mix and Match Mama says
They’re quartz! I love quartz because it’s super durable (like granite!) and hard to damage. I use a basic granite/countertop cleaner on it but other than that, it’s just really easy and doesn’t wear and tear.

my daughter goes to school with ebby and kensington tell kensington and ebby their costumes were amazing
