My sweet hubby and I just spent the last 10 days in beautfiul northern Italy and Switzerland. It was an AMAZING vacation. This trip was our survivied first year as parents/been married 5 years/having another baby/just because trip.
Last year, when I was 28 weeks pregnant, we toured southern Italy…so now, I can say both of my babies went to Italy before they were born.
Here we are at 5:30 AM arriving at the airport
This is us 20 hours later. We just landed in Milan.
Andrew in line getting our rent car. He did a fantastic job driving us around!!
Our first stop, Lake Como. This is where we stayed 4 nights. This is a BEAUTIFUL lake surrounded by mountains and swanky towns. I have been to Paris many times and this city, by far, had more glamorous people!
This is the gate to George Clooney’s house! Yes! I knew he lived on Lake Como, so Andrew did a little homework before we left. When we got there, some locals confirmed his house.
Andrew standing at George’s gate, pointing to the address.
At this point, we were really trespassing on George’s property. I was hoping, that if caught, they wouldn’t arrest a pregnant girl from Texas just trying to peak at George’s house. Isn’t it massive? It sits right on the lake.
One more shot before we ran back to our car 🙂
We stopped for ice cream (Italy is most known for its ice cream) at one of the towns along the lake.
Our first Italian meal…it had been a long day but a wonderful one!
Day 2, we head to Switzerland. This was my favorite day of the whole trip!!! Switzerland was beautiful! It was every cliche you ever hear about it…it was PERFECT!
This is the town of Beckenried. The town of Breckenridge, CO was modeled after this Swiss town. Trust me…the real thing was WAY better!
After we left Beckenried, we headed to Lucerne. We ate lunch outside by the water. It was chilly and wonderful!
Shopping in Lucerne
When we left Lucerne, we headed to Bern. Bern was an AWESOME Swiss town! I wish we could have stayed a few days just in this one town.
Bern in known for its bears. Bears have lived in this city since it was established. They have a bear haven at the entrance to the city. Of course, when we show up, the bears’ home is getting remodeled, so we saw them hanging out in their temporary home. Aren’t they cute??
I’m holding a little stuffed bear that we bought for Kensington 🙂
This is the front door to Albert Einstein’s apartment. He lived here in Bern when he came up with E=MC2
Main Street in Bern
This pizza was an “individual” pizza. Look how huge it is! It’s hanging over the plate. Andrew thought it was at least 2 feet long!
Today, we’re in Bellagio…another town along Lake Como. The Bellagio hotel in Vegas was modeled after this town.
Bellagio was full of little streets like this one with shops at every turn.
Bellagio from the Lake view
On this day, we headed back to Switzerland.
This picture doesn’t justify the situation! I literally thought we might die at this moment. Our GPS did a great job all day, every day, except for this time. This is us driving up a road in the Swiss Alps. This road was supposed to be TWO LANES, however, our one very tiny car barely fit. At one point, we faced a car coming down the mountain as we were going up…Andrew had to put the car in reverse and back down this winding road until there was space enough for the other car to pass. We were both nervous wrecks and we aren’t usually nervous people! After that, I told him to get me off that stupid mountain ASAP.
Another cute Swiss village
We rode a funicular (cable car thing) up one of the mountains on Lake Como. This was the view.
We arrived in Venice! The last time I was in Venice was 7 years ago. A girlfriend and I went. Three days before, I had my braces removed…I told my friend Erika on that trip that I met this guy named Andrew who played football. Fast forward to this day and here I am…married to that guy…pregnant with his second child…and wearing stupid braces again! What the heck???
Andrew had to take this picture…Italian fashion I presume???
Saint Mark’s Cathedral in Saint Mark’s square. Mark (who wrote the book in the Bible) is buried inside…isn’t that awesome????
Gondolas are no joke in Venice…they’re the only mode of transportation other than your two feet.
Our hotel room was huge in Venice! This is only one of the three rooms. It also had a spectacular canal view.
This was the view right outside our room.
Andrew enjoying the view.
Saint Mark’s at night
We sat outside and listened to the musicians play classic Italian songs…just like the movies.
Another day in Venice

Dinner on the canal
On our last full day, we headed to Verona on our way back to Milan. This is where Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet was set. This is supposedly the famous balcony he wrote the balcony scene after.
So, that was our trip. It was wonderful!!! We shopped so much that we had to pay US Airways some more money on our way home because our bags were so full…well worth it! We had a blast spending 10 days touring northern Italy and Switzerland together. It’s always an adventure when I set out with Andrew Shull…never dull…always fun!
