On Thursday morning, we left bright and early and headed to the brand new (and fabulous) JW Marriott Resort in San Antonio for our first family of 4 road trip and vacation. It was WONDERFUL! This resort is brand new and a vacation within itself.
Kensington wanted to get in bed with Smith before we left…she’s super excited about seeing Shamu!
And so is Smith!
And so is Smith!
We stopped at Cracker Barrel in Waco for brunch on our way down.
As soon as we checked in, we headed straight to the pool area. They had 5 main pools, one kiddie pool, 3 slides where you road down on tubes (very tall and fast, just like Wet and Wild), and a lazy river that circled the entire area. This is Kensington and Andrew checking out the kiddie pool.
Going down one of the kiddie slides.
Smith was plum tuckered out by the time we were done on Thursday.
“Can we come back tomorrow, Mommy?”
Friday, we got up and headed to Sea World. This isn’t a great picture but I wanted you to see that Smith was sitting up in the stroller instead of riding in his infant seat. He looks like he’s leaning over but he’s actually trying to chew on the strap :).
We got to Shamu’s show 45 minutes early to get great seats. Kensington is watching the 5 killer whales warm up.
Here are the 5 whales warming up. Do you see the little baby whale right below the whale on the far left? It was born January 7…so it’s almost exactly Smith’s age.
So happy to see Shamu! We’ve been talking about him at our house FOREVER!
This was the closest they got to the whales. The trainer is actually standing on the platform. At no point during the show did any of the trainers enter the water. Not once. When I was younger, the trainers would swim with the whales, do flips off the whales…totally interact with them. Not anymore…these trainers actually looked scared of these whales.
She was mesmerized.
And he was sound asleep in my lap.
Again, the trainer is on her platform.
Of course we had to visit Shamu’s gift shop and buy a whale!
Ok…if you click and enlarge this picture, you’ll see me hanging on for dear life to the side of this ride with one hand AND MY ONE YEAR OLD with the other! I wanted to ride the Log Ride and the stupid people said it was fine for Kensington to sit on my lap. About 10 seconds into the ride, I realized they were idiots and that having her on my lap (with no strap) was a HUGE mistake. We went down 3 little hills and 2 hills that were 6 stories high (I read this after we got off). She loved it! She never once cried or tried to get down or acted scared at all (which was a good thing because I was scared to death that she was about to go flying off my lap). The guy in front of me on the ride kept telling me to hang on (I think he was picturing himself being interviewed on the news about riding on the ride that ejected the one year old). Thankfully, we survived…and little Kensington proved to be tougher than I thought.
On our way to dinner Friday night.
Well…we were headed to dinner until I decided that Smith had pink eye, so we detoured to the nearest urgent care clinic (a first for our family since Kensington has NEVER been sick) and got him checked out.
Look at that sweet face. Kensington and Andrew went next door to McDonalds to get her something to eat while I stayed with Smith at the urgent care place. He was all smiles the entire time. The doctor did confirm my diagnosis (my sister-in-law, Dr. Shull, will be so proud of my ability to diagnose) and we were off to Walgreens for some medicine. By the next morning, it was gone. And we did get to enjoy the rest of our evening.

What a fun trip! I wish I could claim some common genes with your kids, because they are so adorable. You are quite the diagnostician. Know I am proud, indeed. 🙂
