1/2 cup flour
2 2/3 cups milk
4 egg yolks, beaten and in a small bowl
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 baked pie crust
Cool Whip or fresh whipped cream
Over medium-high heat on your stove top, cook cocoa, sugar, flour and milk until thickened (about 5 to 7 minutes…you’ll just feel the mixture thicken up a bit). Stir continuously.
Take a few tablespoons of your hot chocolate liquid and stir it into your egg yolks. (This will temper your yolks so you don’t get scrambled eggs.) Pour the mixture into your saucepan on your stove and cook another two minutes.
Remove from heat and stir in salt, butter and vanilla. Pour mixture into your baked pie crust.
Refrigerate at least 2 hours before topping with Cool Whip, slicing and serving.
Easy and delicious every time.
Right now, I’m listening to Nat King Cole sing the Christmas Song. It just doesn’t get better than that.

You just combined TWO of my favorite things. Nat King Cole's version of The Christmas Song is my absolute fave hands-down. And this chocolate pie looks just like the one my grandma used to make. I will be trying this recipe!

The BEST things never get a good photo because everyone starts eating it too fast! At least that's what happens around here! 🙂

Can you top the pie with whip cream the night before you serve it or should I wait to top it right before serving it?
Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
You can top it the night before! Just pop it in the fridge when you're done. Great question!

Hey Shay!
Avid reader of your blogs. What cookie woudl you recommend trying to make for a cookie tasting contest at my school next week?
Mix and Match Mama says
Can you bring a whoopie pie? If so, the chocolate peppermint ones are fabulous! If not, you should make my peppermint sugar cookies!
