I know you’re skeptical, so I pulled some images from Pinterest to show you these ladies rockin’ their shorts…
It’s all about proportion. Shorter shorts, looser, longer layers on top and then longer shorts, shorter sleeves, more fitted on top. You can wear shorts. You can.
2. Buy colored shorts to make any outfit seem more fresh and new.
3. Darker denim shorts never go out of style.
4. Avoid big pockets, jewels and bedazzled shorts…keep them simple.
5. I love a wedge with my shorts but sandals and flats are just as cute!
Since I’m the Queen of Shorts, I thought I’d show you my favorites. They’re not all short shorts…I have some longer ones in there as well…
My absolute favorite shorts…the J Crew Chino (and they’re on sale now too!). They come in 3 different hem lengths and 14 colors. The 3 inch are my favorites…but you might also want to check out the 4 inch and the 5 inch too.
Patterns are really trendy right now…and they definitely make a boring old pair of shorts more fun! These are a few of my favorite patterned shorts…
I love the polka dots!
The navy ones have a slightly longer hemline.
These shorts just scream “summer!”. And they come in 4 other fun prints too!
These fun “boyfriend” shorts come in a variety of colors too.
I wear these shorts all the time! They have the perfect amount of stretch in them and are so comfy!
These shorts are great because you can roll them up or down depending on how short you want them.
And let’s face it…you just don’t get more classic than this.
Ok? Are you still unsure? I have gathered the shorts section from my favorite retailers and put the links below…surely, we can find something for you! And bonus…most of them are on sale :).

Girl, yes. I just wore some mint shorts, a flowy black top and black wedges the other night and I felt (and looked, if I do say so) fantastic! I LOVE shorts with wedges.

I'm on the verge of dropping down a size so I'm holding out on any clothes shopping but I'm looking forward to buying shorts!! I didn't wear them last summer (i know! i know!) and I about died being so hot!! Looks like some fun topics are coming up!! =)

Love this post Shay! You are definitely the queen of shorts! I'm short too and had no idea they can make me look taller! I'm sold 😉

I'm with you on the 3" hemline. I am only 5'1, so when I tried on the 5", I felt like I was in "mom shorts". Not a good look 🙂 Love a good pair of bright shorts – I've pretty much bought out Jcrew factory this summer!

I also have shorter legs, so shorts are my go-to in spring & summer! I think it's time for me to buy some with a pattern. 🙂

I am addicted to Shades of Shay! Ha! I have purchased several things you featured and this momma has loved each one. Thanks for sharing your life and helping me branch out! Hugs…

I have one pair of shorts in my entire wardrobe because IT'S TOO DAMN COLD to wear shorts here. Even in summer. I'm not bitter. I promise.
P.S. I have a tiny torso and looooooong limbs. My arms and legs are so disproportionately long and thin that my mom referred to me in high school as Spider Woman. Not kidding. Every girl thinks she wants long lean legs, but I'm living proof that hem lengths are tricky no matter your build. 🙂

My problem is I have thick thighs, I'm working them out. All shorts are tight on my thighs that I try making them look horrible!
Anna @ The Things I'm Learning says
I'm shorter like you and I definitely agree with the shorter the shorts, the longer the legs rule. I LIVE in J.Crew's 3" shorts. I think I have every color and most of the patterns. They're my favorite. I also bought some from Old Navy this spring and was really surprised at how much I like them. I always wear my Jack's with shorts, but I need to try out the wedges.

Shay, one little disclaimer. You have AWESOME legs. I have heavy legs. Have since the day I was born. I didn't wear shorts from 1999-2009 and started again in 2010. I started with Bermuda shorts and they looked frumpy. I do wear shorter ones now but I still think they are not flattering on me – even with wedges.
I'm a skirt girl which works better on girls with heavy legs. It doesn't matter how much I work out, it is how God made me. I'm not ashamed, but I need to work with what I have.
If I could, I'd get a leg transplant.

For all of you sweet ladies that feel your legs are maybe too thick for shorts…wear looser shorts. Tight shorts are awful on anyone! Try the boyfriend shorts. They're loose and will make you feel great!

What about those of us who aren't shaped like you and the models in your pictures? My rear and thighs just aren't like ya'lls, or more like ya'll don't have!

For my religious beliefs I can only wear shorts to my knee and no tank tops (must have sleeve) … How can I look cute and stylish and not frumpy!
