On Saturday morning, we hosted brunch for Kensington’s fifth birthday! This year, the theme was
Kensington’s Pumpkin Patch!
Why in the world has it taken me 5 years to realize that I needed to do a pumpkin patch party? Seriously people! Why didn’t someone point out the obvious to me…I adore pumpkins, my house is already decorated in the theme this time of year, and I have a kid with a fall birthday…it was so obvious!
Kensington was seriously excited about this party! She is a girl after my own heart. She told me the other day that pumpkins just make her happy. Seriously, is this my child or what?!?!
The front and back of her invitation for the year. Of course, Andrea designed them for me :). You can check out Andrea’s design site here or her family blog (with so many cute and creative ideas!) here.
Every year, my kids get a sign for their room that has their party theme on it. After the party, we just take off the stake and hang it in their rooms :).
Our little pumpkin patch
One of my favorite pictures EVER!
As you walked inside my house, I had my party favor table set up. One of the main reasons I love throwing an adult birthday for my kids is that I get to give adult party favors. You never leave a Shay party without a favor!
I mean come on…you’re not surprised by this favor are you? Seriously, it was a given, right?!
There is a bakery in town that makes the cutest sugar cookies and cupcakes…I just loved these little pumpkin cookies for my guests to take home.
In our kitchen 🙂
Andrea always makes my banners and food tags.
Yummy pumpkin muffins. All I did was take my Pumpkin Bundt Cake #12 and pour the batter into 3 (24-count) mini muffin tins. They just need to bake 9 minutes. Simple and delicious!
I found this Peanut Butter Cream Cheese Ball recipe on Pinterest. It was a huge hit!
Store bought spinach dip inside a little pumpkin I carved. Simple and yummy!
Kensington’s favorite fruit made an appearance.
Pumpkin Patch Mix was just candy corn, candy pumpkins and fall-colored M&Ms combined. Easy and festive!
Pumpkin Patch Punch was 2 liters of Crush poured down over 1/2 gallon of orange sherbet. Smith told me it was the best drink he has ever had :).
You can find my easy and delicious Sausage Breakfast Casserole recipe here (we eat it for dinner a lot too!) and my Pumpkin-Butterscotch Dip recipe will be up on Mix and Match Mama next Thursday. (I’ll remind you when it’s up!).
Sweet Art Bakery (who did the pumpkin cookies I showed you at the top) also made her cupcakes.
We had such a fun time celebrating with the birthday girl! Apparently, I only took pictures of the ladies. When I went to upload all of my photos…there were not photos of the guys. What’s up with that?!?! We did invite the men to her party :).
Speaking of which…
Andrew is a die hard Dallas Cowboys fan (obsessive) and my uncle Bryan is a die hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan (they could never watch a game together…they are both too intense)…well, I had put Smith in a really cute pumpkin tee from Gap but about 5 minutes after the party started, he came downstairs wearing this Steelers jersey instead. My uncle had snuck it in the house and swapped out his shirt. Smith was sooooooo excited about his new jersey (and Andrew was so sad!). He wore it all day because he loved it!
We had the best time at Kensington’s Pumpkin Patch. After the party, she told me it was the best birthday ever :). It was so fun celebrating both my big girl and my favorite time of year.
Tomorrow’s post, is Fifty Two Shades of Shay: Planning a Kid’s Birthday Party…stay tuned!
Dinner tonight is really fun! Turkey Chili over Cornbread Waffles!! And it’s simple too!
XOXO

The party looks like it was PERFECT! The decorations were obviously fab, you ALWAYS give great favors, the food all looked delish and totally stuck to the theme, K's sign was so cute, her outfit was DARLING, etc….. Seriously, everything looked AWESOME. And you're right. HOW IN THE WORLD have you not thrown a pumpkin party until now?!?
Tracy says
Such a cute party!! Keeping this in mind for the future.
And I'm even more brokenhearted for Andrew about Smith's jersey, because not only was it Steelers, it was Polamalu, and K-Staters don't like him because he had a horrible cheap shot hit against Aaron Lockett!!!
Jennifer Cannon says
One question… want to come plan my wedding!?! (Really!) Seriously, you have it all planned out and perfectly put together. The party was precious, the favors were perfect, and kennsington was beautiful! …and through it all you were wearing flats! Proud!
Good job mama!
Xoxo

Again – I have no clue why it's taken this long for a pumpkin party… BUT in your defense, it's typically January when we're planning it 🙂 Time to get to work on Smith's!

So awesome! I'm a September 29 birthday and NEVER had a pumpkin themed party! I'm curious though, don't all the bath and body works favors cost a TON? Lucky guests you have:-)
Rachel says
What an amazing party, Shay!!
I love the fancy invites, new sign, cookies & cupcakes, awesome favors, and all-over orange pumpkin theme!!
We live in Steeler country, so Nolan already has been given a Polamalu t-shirt, and he doesn't even know what football is yet 🙂
Have a great day!

This is SO cute! My oldest boy's birthday is October 20th and we're doing a teensy party this year since we're moving, but NEXT year I have a Halloween costume party in mind!

Lovin' the pumpkin patch party! And that picture of K – just precious! You seriously think of EVERYTHING when throwing a party…seriously. Love, love, love just everything!

Twice a year, Bath and Body Works has their 75% off sale and the Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin scent is always included…I stocked up this July when they had one!

That picture of Kensington is the sweetest thing EVER! I love the pumpkin theme and I'm making your pumpkin bundt cake (with a cream cheese center…look at me getting creative!) this very afternoon.
Colleen Sullivan says
You throw the best parties! Um, and I would be SO happy with you party favors!! Lucky ladies!!! Kensington is adorable in her pumpkin shirt!!
Carlin Smith says
Polamalu? Really? Of all people! Andrew should have confiscated that thing immediately! And Andrew even played for K-State!
Carlin Smith says
I loved the party, though. Pumpkins make me happy as well!
Jaren says
Shay! You did such an awesome job! That is the cutest party EVER!! She is just so precious! My little girl has a February birthday, so we have had a Mardi Gras party and a Valentine's party. They were so fun, and it was so easy to find decorations!! I'm quite sure you'll come up with something just as awesome in January for Smith!
Andrea says
This might be the cutest pumpkin party ever! It was classy, kid friendly, and heart-warmingly fall all in one! Thanks for sharing such a fun day with everyone! Aren't kid parties so much fun to plan!? Have a super day! 🙂

Love this idea for a party theme! It's just perfect! Could you tell us where you get their birthday signs painted? I'm thinking I need one for my son's first birthday party coming up in ten months! 🙂 I love that idea for a birthday party tradition!

This party is too cute! I love all the little details 🙂 If you don't mind sharing, where is Kensington's outfit from?
Alison @ Get Your Pretty On says
Oh my gosh, so many things I love about this post! First off, the pumpkin scented party favors. WOW! All of my favorites. Your decorations were adorable. Kensington's smile is priceless. You served my addiction Diet Snapple Peach Tea. Oh and Smith's Polamalu jersey, HUGE Steelers fan here. I have two of my own hanging in the closet. He's a boy after my own heart. 😉
Kerry Forristall says
Completely and totally jealous:) What a great party and perfect party favors…I'm mad at BBW because they aren't selling the Pumpkin Scents in the Boston Area since our stores only carry the newly designed bottles and the Fall scents aren't "newly designed" boo:( Seeing all the Pumpkin spice lotions all lined up makes me want to jump on a plane to TX just to get them:)
Caravan Sonnet says
Oh my sweet little heart! LOVE this!! The decorations are simply adorable and I love the idea of giving favors away! SO cute!!

So cute! Love the favors. When you say adult party does that mean no kids at all? Prob a silly ? Just confused 🙂

Hi Shay! I live in CT and we experience a great fall season here and it's my favorite time of year, so I love Kensington's party! Everything looked so great, awesome job, Momma! I've been reading your blog for a while and it's funny, I thought of you over the weekend, because I scored a fab scarf at good 'ol Target and due to our mutual scarf obsession, your love of pink and the cool design, I thought, "I could see Shay liking this too" 🙂 Here's the link, they call it purple but in person, it's more of a bright blue w/the pink design. I'm rocking it today at work and got a few compliments already so I wanted to pass it on: http://www.target.com/p/merona-tile-geo-scarf-purple/-/A-14413393#prodSlot=medium_3_6
Happy shopping!

The Pumpkin Patch party looks amazing and so much fun! I might just have to steal this idea for just a fun Fall party 🙂 The favors are perfect, as well as the food.
I must admit it pains me to see the Steelers jersey on Smith 🙁 I have been a Cleveland Browns fan my entire life and any team jersey is better than a Steelers jersey! I'm with Andrew on this one 😉

so so so cute!! and now i'm craving pumpkin muffins and candy corn mix!! I am, a bit taken back, however, by the size of the stem on that center pumpkin!!! I mean, really?? 😉
Mix and Match Mama says
Kensington's outfit is from Gymboree! And my friend paints the signs but she doesn't do them for the public (just me because I beg her!). I bet someone on Etsy could recreate them for you though!

I'm so glad you posted this because I will be having a pumpkin themed party for my daughter's 6th birthday in a couple weeks and needed some inspiration! Where did you get the hay bales? And what do you do with all the pumpkins when the season is over? Do you use them for cooking by any chance or just toss'em? I plan to get some pumpkins to decorate our house with but wasn't sure what I'd do with them all eventually.
Leslie says
Absolutely adorable!! You are so right, a pumpkin theme worked out perfectly for Fall and Kensington's Fall Birthday! And I really hope I get invited to your next party. Who wouldn't love adult favors! Huge fan of iced sugar cookies too!
Mix and Match Mama says
Someone Andrew knows has a farm outside of town, so that's where the hay came from. And as for all of the pumpkins, they are decorating my porch right now :). I'm going to leave them all out until it's time to start carving them for Halloween!
Cassi says
NOo! Not a Steelers jersey! 😉 Im a Cowboys fan myself!! Super cute party!!
