There is an Oreo inside each one of these cupcakes. An Oreo. Inside. And Oreos in the frosting.
(I’m pausing for you to allow that to sink in.)
I found this little method on wonderful Pinterest and loved it!
It really doesn’t take much to make something festive. I’m a big believer in simple little ideas that are fun to do with kiddos and not stressful. These cupcakes are exactly that (with an Oreo inside!). I bought the Halloween cupcake liners and the little picks at my local grocery store, bought some Halloween Oreos and Halloween sprinkles and there you have it…festive without the fuss (I should have Andrea make me a graphic that says that…).
My family loved these! And you know what…how simple would they be to mix and match? Use the exact same concept but make Christmas cupcakes instead :).
And there’s that Oreo on the bottom. Fabulous!
Shopping List
1 box of chocolate cake mix plus all of the ingredients to prepare it according to package directions
At least 36 Halloween Oreos
1 container of vanilla frosting
Halloween sprinkles
Halloween cupcake liners and picks
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Line 2 (12 count) muffin tins with cupcake liners.
Place one Oreo in the bottom of each liner.
In a mixing bowl combine cake mix and all ingredients to prepare it. Beat with an electric mixer until combined.
Once combined, pour batter into cupcake liners and fill 2/3 of the way full.
Bake 15 to 18 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Allow cupcakes to rest in the muffin tins about 5 minutes before removing them to a cooling rack to finish cooling.
While the cupcakes are cooling, make your frosting. Take 12 of your Halloween Oreos and place them in a plastic baggie and crush them with either your hands or the back of a heavy pot (just get them nice and crunched up). Combine your crushed up Oreos with your store bought frosting.
Top your cooled cupcakes with your Oreo frosting and then add some sprinkles to the top.
Enjoy!

Okay, Shay, this totally got my brain moving. I was thinking about how to mix & match these. I want to make these for my toddler's day care party, but big cupcakes and oreos may be too much for the little ones. Then I had a light bulb over my head — use MINI oreos, mini cupcake wrappers, and small muffin tins to make these!!! And I plan to top them with half of a mini oreo in the frosting instead of a sharp object with a toothpick! I will tweet a pic of these when I make them. And then my mind started thinking about the combinations. Oh, the combinations. Nila wafers, nutter butters, pretzels, chips ahoy! So many different ideas! Love your blog, keep up the good work 🙂

I made these today with my 2 year old and they're so good. I made a couple changes though… Used vanilla cake mix and orange halloween frosting.
