How to make a heart cake!

I’m pretty sure all of you Pinterest people have seen this post on how to make a heart shaped cake.  Such a cute idea, right?  And so simple!  One afternoon, Smith and I decided to conquer the heart ourselves and you know what…it was not only easy, it was a lot of fun!

We made our heart cake with a strawberry cake mix and used 2 cans of strawberry frosting but you could totally mix and match this any way you want.

First, you prepare you cake mix per the package directions.

Then, you pour your cake batter between one 8″ round cake pan and one 8″ square cake pan.  (So one cake mix is divided between two cake pans).

Then I baked mine for about 18 minutes.  After they were finished baking (a toothpick inserted in the center came out clean), I let them cool in the pans.
Once they were cooled, I removed them from their pans…
…I turned the square on its side and then sliced the circle in half….

…I took each half and placed it on the side of the diamond to form my heart.  Using my frosting as glue, I frosted over everything to hold it together (I really recommend two cans of frosting)…

…isn’t it so cute?!?!  And simple too!

I was standing on a chair to take an aerial shot with this little guy under me :).

He was so proud of our heart cake!

Such a fun cake to make with kiddos!

Especially this kiddo :).
