Last year, I did a Shade of Shay on Wedges…and you ladies loved it! So, since spring and summer are about to arrive, I thought I would do Wedges Part 2! Every year, we should celebrate the greatness that is the wedge, right?
Let’s recap why the wedge is the perfect shoe…
1. They look great with pants, jeans, skirts, dresses and shorts.
2. They give you more support than a regular high heel.
3. They elevate any causal look. Instantly.
4. They’re very timeless and really never go out of style.
5. They make your legs look long and you look tall.
6. As far as heels go, they are the most comfortable ones you can wear.
Need a little proof? Here you go…
This is my favorite look. Wedges and shorts. Look how long their legs look! You take any pair of boring shorts and a tee on a hot summer night and then throw on a pair of wedges and bam! You look dressed up. You look intentional. And you’re just wearing shorts.
My favorite shorts to wear with wedges? The colored J Crew Chinos. Here’s how I would style this outfit…
Perfect Summer Look!
The rest of your outfit stays very basic (tees and shorts) but those wedges…those wedges make everything seem more special. Like you really got dressed that day (instead of just throwing on shorts and a tee).
Now, you know I love the J Crew shorts because they come in over a dozen colors, wash well and will last for years (I have 3 pairs that are 4 years old in my closet). Don’t forget, I wear the 3 inch hemline but you can also get their 4, 5, 7 or 9 inch hemlines in fun colors too!
As for a striped shirt…well, I’m striped shirt obsessed!
What else looks great with wedges? Well…
I just love this. Love. Now that boots and bootie season has ended, I add my wedges to my favorite jeans and go. I really think wedges look cute layered up with a little jacket and scarf and then also paired with jeans and a tank. Here is how I would style this…
Military Jacket plus Flowy Tank (available in 12 colors!) plus Cuffed White Jeans plus Wedges equals
Perfect Summer Look!
And then there’s this…
Ohhhhh! The skirt is the wedges’ best friend! What I love most about this is that it looks just as appropriate when you’re running to Target as it does for dinner on the patio, an afternoon summer wedding or a BBQ. It just works.
Perfect Summer Look!
Here are a few more skirts that would look super cute with wedges…
And then there is this…
Wedges and dresses…dresses and wedges. The perfect pairing.
Navy Eyelet Dress (also in white) plus Wedges equals
Perfect Summer Look!
I’m so excited about the navy eyelet dress! I bought it and it’s adorable! I love the pockets on the side. Gap has some really cute dresses right now that would all pair beautifully with wedges. Just look…
Aren’t they all so cute?!?! And they would all look fabulous with…wedges.

Yes…my name is Shay…and I’m wedge obsessed. Love them. Love them so much! And just for grins…here are a few more that I’m in love with this season (because a girl can always use another pair of wedges!).
And one last thought…I often get asked what color do I use to paint my toes for spring and summer…and my answer always is…
…a very light shade. I like wearing bright colors on my fingers and light shades on my toes. These aren’t my feet (I found them off Pinterest) but don’t those toes look clean and fresh? I just love a light pedicure. Right now, Essie’s Marshmallow is my favorite for my tootsies.
I hope you enjoyed Wedges Part Two! For dinner tonight? I’m making Sheaffer’s Teriyaki Chicken. Did you know Sheaffer can cook? That’s right! She doesn’t just tell me what to wear…sometimes, she tells me what to eat too :).
Happy Tuesday!

I am tall 5'8". So I tend to wear flats. But, when Zulily had their Tom sale, I bought a Tom wedge…oh Shay. …why did I wait so long. I LOVE them. I want more!

Hmm…
May have to shop today!! Thanks for all the good suggestions. Maybe I retire the boring Reef flip
Flops and turn into a wedge girl!

Thank you so much for sharing! I've been looking for a good sturdy pair of wedges but the weather is so bipolar here! Come on spring/summer!!!

Another tall girl here {5'11''} and so wanting to wear wedges! They are the cutest things ever! 🙂
Michelle says
I am 6' tall and love a wedge! I can't walk in any other type of hill and the wedge makes me stand up straight. But it is currently 36 degrees here and socks and booties are still needed. Beginning to think spring is never coming, we had snow Saturday night!

Now I know what I will be shopping for on my fun girls' trip this weekend!
Patty says
I LOVE WEDGES too! I love how they instantly make me look taller and put together! Can we see a picture of your wedge collection?!
Whitney says
Love the post! 🙂 I'm already tall (between 5'10" and 5'11"), and don't really wear heels much. I don't want to look like a giant! But, I want to look into this wedge idea. Maybe find some shorter wedges? We'll see… Thanks for sharing your expertise. 🙂

I'm 6'0" tall and the couple times I've tried wedges on they just make me seem like an amazon woman and don't look right. I can wear a small heel when dressing up in dresses for church, but the wedge just doesn't work. Maybe I'm just trying the wrong wedge. Any thoughts?
Also, I've been meaning to ask how you wear (as in put on) your scarves? I have bought a couple but am having difficulties styling them to look right.

That orange skirt and blue and white striped shirt with brown wedges is adorable!!

I am currently obsessed with the Steve Madden Venis wedge, SOOO cute! They are also currently on sale at Nordstrom so you should check em out.

If I happen to be wearing wedges on a day when I take the kids to the park, then I wear them. I really wear them around so often that I don't think twice about it. 🙂
Somer says
Tom's=MOST COMFORTABLE WEDGES EVVVVVVVER! 🙂 I wore them to a wedding and danced the whole night without my feet hurting. They are amazing!
mel @ the larson lingo says
*Sigh* I wish I could wear wedges, but then I would be over 6 feet tall.
I am all about flip flops & ballet flats during Spring/Summer.

I love the DV by dolce vita wedges you showed! Do you own this pair by chance?? I want to order them but I am unsure of the fit since they aren't reviewed yet!

Shay – while I love all of your 52 Shades series posts, today's made me depressed. It started snowing, after being 70 degrees yesterday. Colorado is just plain stupid.
And I even went to Nordstroms at lunch to get inspiration for wedges to wear after reading all about your picks, but I couldn't get in the mood to wear them after trudging through snow and wind in the parking lot. I will have to favorite your post until a sunnier day when I can muster up the strength to call it "spring" here in Denver. Ugh. Thank you though for trying to put me in the spirit of spring/summer. We're just not there yet!

I can't wear high wedges either…it just makes me too tall. But I have found a few shorter ones that work. They just aren't as cute though. I'm the opposite…I love a bold color on my toes and something more subdued on my fingers. I LOVED the Essie colors you linked to…may have to try some of those out…Lana
Mix and Match Mama says
I bought the DV wedges in an 8 which is my actual size! I thought they were very true to size.
And as for the cold in Colorado today, this Texas girl feels your pain come October when it's still 90 degrees here and I'm supposed to be celebrating Halloween! 😉
Melissa says
I'm a wedge girl too since I'm on the petite side. I recently ordered the 4" shorts from JC Factory so hopefully I will like them. I was wondering for pratical purposes, do you wear your wedges when running around with kiddos at the park or do you change into your Toms? Always curious about this as I have worn wedges on occasion to the park with my son and sometimes get some looks from the other moms. I find wedges in general to be very comfortable despite the heel height. Thanks.
Michelle Ragsdale says
just bought my first pair of wedges today! yesterday updated my very dates wardrobe with some "statement" pieces…a few wks ago my first scarf…feeling great!!
Megan says
So this is probably a silly question but how about wedges with capri pants? Unfortunately I just don't have the legs for shorts so I always wear capris. Never bought wedges but you have tempted me 😉 especially if you think they will look good with capris lol
Mix and Match Mama says
Wedges look great with capri pants! Wear them!

Have you ever thought about doing a Fifty Two Shades on building a home? I'd love tips on how you've navigated the process! I always hear horror stories, and wondered if you had any thoughts, advice, etc…

Did you buy your normal size in the Gap navy eyelet dress? I ordered my normal size (small) and an x-small because reviews said it ran big. I can't decide which to send back because they both fit! It's just that the smaller is looser and has less shape. Was wondering how the sizing worked out for you.
Mix and Match Mama says
I exchanged my small for an xs because it was a little too loose. I'm thinking you should stick with the xs!

I love your post .I wana know if it's right or cool to wear high heel wedges to an evening dinner?
