Woohoo! It’s another edition of Shopping with Sheaffer and Shay!
And listen…this one has a twist.
Sheaffer and I can somehow manage to be at the mall together 3 times a week with our children but for some reason cannot find one day to actually go there alone…because no one wants to see a Shopping with Sheaffer and Shay edition that includes these three crazies…
I love how Carter is timidly trying to put his arm around Kensington and she’s looking like she’d rather he not…and Smith is just smiling and being Smith :).
So on Tuesday, Sheaffer’s mom could watch Carter in Dallas and my mom could watch my kids at home in McKinney which meant we would both be shopping…but at two different malls. This gave us an idea…we know many of you live in different cities than your BFF but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a fun shopping day with them.
Sheaffer and I timed it so that we arrived at our malls at the same time and then began shopping/texting/calling each other as we enjoyed our day. It was a virtual version of Shopping with Sheaffer and Shay. And although I would have rather been with Sheaffer in person, it was fun to see my phone light up and read silly texts from her as we shopped.
Here we go…this is what I found on my big shopping outing (with some Sheaffer texts peppered in between!).
I went to the mall to specifically get these earrings…
I’ve been eyeing these beauties for months and months now and I knew this was something I was going to purchase. Big turquoise earrings are everywhere right now and I think they’ll look great this summer and through fall and winter too. I’m totally excited about these!!
If this color doesn’t float your boat…these earrings are available in 13 other colors too…
Read the reviews…I’m not the only one swooning :).
All of that being said, I can hear my mom right now saying, “those will be too heavy on me”.
Listen, I don’t mind a bigger earring but if you’re wanting something that makes a statement but isn’t quite so heavy…I will refer you back to these…
…the Kate Spade studs (also in turquoise and many other fun colors!) are light but make a big statement too!
Click here to see all of the colorful studs (there are a lot of colors to chose from!).
After I left the jewelry department, I headed to try on tops. I have plenty of shorts and jeans to get me through summer but I wanted to try on a few new tops.
And be still my heart…
Easy to wear. Light. Perfect for hot and humid weather. Will look great in the fall.
And we all know, I have officially declared leopard a neutral…
Can I get an “amen” my leopard loving friends?
Plus, I think my leopard top will look fabulous with my new turquoise earrings!
For a size reference, I’m wearing a small in this top.
Turns out that I wasn’t the only one loving leopard that day…
…we are so much alike. Leopard is a neutral friends. A fabulous neutral :).
After the leopard top, I put on a few other flowy tops that just speak to me this summer.
I don’t want clingy when it’s hot and humid. I want flowy. I want breathable. I want easy to wear no matter what the temp is. And I think I found it…
All 3 of these were light, flowy and perfect for summer.
This floral top is also available in 3 other colors.
I’m wearing this top in Hot Coral (pictured on the right). I like the color so much better in person! In the image, it’s muted but in person, it’s a nice bright color.
It also comes in black, white and blue.
And I also really liked the navy and orange print too!
Sigh. After I wrapped up my time in the tops department, I moved into uncharted territory. Hold on to your knickers ladies…I tried on dresses.
And for a size reference, I’m wearing an XS in all of the dresses below.
Whoa. Who is that?!?!
I’m not a dress girl.
I’m a skirt girl.
But I left Nordstrom on Tuesday with 2 new dresses.
Watch out now!
I love this first dress because it’s easy to wear. It’s not going to wrinkle. It would look cute with flats or heels….with a denim jacket over it or without. And it comes in 4 really good colors.
I was totally sold on this dress…and I’m not even a dress girl! Click here to see all 4 colors.
I was just about to buy the black dress when I glanced over and saw this navy one…
…and you know how I adore navy.
Love it.
The navy dress is made very similar to the other one but it has two slits (one on either side) instead of the shorter hemline in front/longer in back. It’s jersey and comfy and will go great with any occasion.
I left with the navy dress. I love it. Love. It.
This style also comes in black and fiery red too.
But that’s just one dress…I left with two dresses. Ladies, I also bought this one…
When I saw the price of this printed dress (only $38), I thought I’d try it on and I loved it! I can see myself wearing it out to dinner with sandals or even to church (with a little jacket or cardigan on top). I also think it would layer really well when the weather gets a little cooler.
After I finally finished the dress department, I made my way to the sunglasses…
…but I didn’t see anything there I had to have, so I kept walking…
And then I saw this…
…look how cute this little military jacket is!!!
I immediately texted Sheaffer and she texted me right back and we were both wearing it! Yup. Two different malls, two different girls and both loving one jacket.
I was loving this military green color and Sheaffer was loving the black version.
This little jacket is light enough to wear on a summer night but made of the perfect material for layering in the fall. And you know how much I love a military jacket…
Military Jackets are one of the most worn items in my closet.
They go with everything.
Even Pinterest tells us that they pair well with shorts, jeans and heavier black pants and boots too. Perfection.
I love all three colors 🙂
As I was heading to the mirror to try on this jacket, I noticed these really cute button up shirts and grabbed one to try on…
…these are similar to the Gap boyfriend shirts that I love so much but the fabric is lighter (it’s a cotton/silk blend). I rolled up the sleeves and paired it with my shorts but I also think it would be super cute tucked into pants or a pencil skirt too. I’m wearing an XS for size reference.
This cute shirt also comes in these other 5 prints too.
I tried on three out of the five and really loved them all. Hard decisions!
***At this point, Sheaffer sent me a picture of her wearing something really fabulous!! She has asked that I not talk about it until she’s ready to share the news herself…but girls, I might have squealed.***
I finally pulled myself away from Nordstrom and headed to Gap.
My beloved Gap.
Sigh.
At our mall, the Gap is under construction until August and the entire store (Mens, Womens, Kids, Baby, Body and Maternity) has been crammed into the tiniest little space…and when I went to check it out for you…the air conditioning was not working.
I’m out.
Trying on clothes makes me hot as it is. Being crammed into a tiny store with no A/C makes me want to hurt someone.
Sigh.
That being said, Gap is having HUGE sales right now, so honestly, you should check it out from the comfort of your home and shop the sale madness. It’s a lot less sweaty online shopping.
After I left the hot and humid Gap, I went downstairs to Banana Republic. Banana is hit or miss for me and on this day, it was pretty miss. I even tried on a hat to see if that was cute…
…but that didn’t work out well for me either.
I left Banana and headed up to lunch. Usually, Sheaffer and I have tacos together. However, on this day…it was just tacos for one…
…I was eating tacos and she was picking out corresponding swimsuits for us. Seriously, one day, we will be these ladies by the pool…
On my way out out of the mall, I grabbed a Starbucks and ran through Loft. My favorite things in Loft are always their easy to wear tees and skirts.
This tee comes in 15 colors and it’s stuff like this that I’ll wear all the time. So basic and such a staple in everyone’s wardrobe. And right now, so many of these things are 50% off! Woohoo for that!
And this white eyelet pencil skirt was also something I loved!! This skirt can be worn everywhere. Like e.v.e.r.y.w.h.e.r.e.
I took my Starbucks and left Loft and headed to my car…I was almost to the door when I totally grabbed one more of my very favorite things…
Listen…if I were Sheaffer, I would name this one of her Must Haves.
Or a Santa Alert.
Or a Buy the Flippin’ Scarf Because You Will Want to Kiss Me on the Lips!
I would name it something!
This scarf is really and truly my very favorite and I cannot believe I only have three.
Seriously people. I honestly think I could have all 26 colors. They’re 2 for $38, so you need to get yourself at least two and then get some for your friends and family as Christmas gifts. Seriously.
These scarves are so soft, so easy to wear and the colors are so good!! Prepare yourself because from now until the end of time, you will see me wearing one in every picture. Love them. Love. Them.
I bought my third scarf (the Red Pop) and headed to my car and then off to the grocery store.
Sheaffer called me on her way home and we chatted for over 30 minutes about our fun shopping day. We might not have been together but we were together in spirit.
This was us on Wednesday night at dinner. I am so blessed that I get to see this girl every day. Love, love, love me some Sheaffer!
And a group shot after dinner! My friends are my world. Love them all :). (And look…I’m wearing my new turquoise earrings! Love them!)
Make sure you click here to see everything Sheaffer shopped for…and ladies…there are some spectacular things!!
Speaking of spectacular…it’s almost July 4th…
…so you should make my spectacular Red, White and Blue Trifle! So easy and really yummy too!
And Pin-spired is Monday!!
Don’t forget to link up!
Happy Friday!

Hi Shay,
Those scarves really are great and so versatile- love things that style themselves.

This post was great, thanks for taking the guesswork out of shopping. Are those jean shorts from gap? I like how they aren't skin tight and the GAP models appear like they are tighter than on you. Thanks

Omg, I'm addicted to Kendra Scott, too. My first pair was the turquoise ones as well and always get compliments. There are some pairs that are included inn the Anniversary Sale that starts in a few weeks! AND, you get half off at her store during your birthday month. I have plans to go multiple times to get necklaces and make my own earrings! Question–I need a pair of the most comfortable wedges ever. I need them to wear all day at work with black, white, and jeans. Suggestions? I'm super pasty still so not sure if nude works on me. ?
Narci says
Listen, that Leopard top was made for you!! I love it!! 🙂 and, I totally just need to go and grab the white KS earrings today to go with my blue. They are addicting!

Shay –
Love the virtual version of your shopping with Sheaffer. Hope you didn't drain your phone batteries! 🙂
You look fabulous in the dresses! I think you'd look best in any of the colors in the high front-low back dress (the first one you tried on). Think of all the accessories you can wear!
Lauren says
Shay, love those LUSH tops you always feature! I have a question. Do you dry clean them? I am tempted to buy one but was hoping that they would wash and air dry without the need to dry clean. I was wondering what you do. Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
For the Lush tops, I've done both. I've both dry cleaned and hand-washed on the gentle cycle and line dried. They both work well!

Just ordered the Denim Blue and Khaki scarves and can't wait to get them and if I love them as much as I think I will then I am sure I will be ordering more….can't beat that price plus all the fabulous colors!!!!

LOVE THIS! Just a note, I too thought the KS earrings were too heavy but I bought the KS lobe wonders and they really do work! I wear them with my big KS earrings and it makes them light as a feather! I was skeptical but they work great!

I'm totally emailing my hubby the link to those turquoise earrings. He saves the emails for Christmas. I won't even remember I sent it, and I'll be so excited!! By the way, the tops all look better on you than the model pics! Love the flowy look! Gonna need it after this baby is born in a few weeks/days. No fitted tops for me for a while!!
Julia says
Love your selections! Especially the Leopard flowy top! I have a side question, I remember you once mentioning a gold fossil watch that I absolutely loved. I just looked all over your blog to see if I could find it again and I can't. Do you by any change remember which one it was?
