On Friday morning, Smith and I loaded up in the back of my parents’ car and headed to Houston to see the Red Sox play the Astros.
Since I had taken Kensington to Boston in May and Andrew had taken Smith to New York, we decided to switch kids for this little adventure. (FYI: I asked Andrew if he wanted to go on this trip too, and he rolled his eyes and said no to going to see the Sox play…sigh…such a Yankee fan I married!).
Here we are ready for our 4.5 hour trip down to Houston! Smith only agreed to wear this Boston tee because it was orange :).
We stopped in Huntsville for lunch and when we saw this sign…it was like the Lord shouting down from Heaven for us to stop. Homemade Hot Fried Pies. Yup…that’s the kind of place where we need to eat.
It was called Farmhouse Sweets & Eats and it was delicious!!
Lovie and silly Smith
He’s never looked more handsome than in this Boston shirt 🙂
We arrived in Houston, checked into our hotel (we stayed at the JW Marriott because let’s face it, Lovie only comes on these trips for the shopping…she’s not a baseball fan…and that hotel is right across the street from the Houston Galleria) and headed to do some shopping.
I love this kid so much! We had a little snack and drink at Starbucks. We sat here and had a long chat about him becoming a big brother. He is just so sweet and has the kindest heart. I just know he’ll be a wonderful big brother to Ashby.
I told Smith he could pick out one treasure on this trip…and he picked a bow and arrow…of course. While mom and I shopped and looked around, my dad taught him how to use it.
And before long, he was Robin Hood Jr.
I was walking out of a store and saw this :). They would just practice every time we stopped. So funny!
On Saturday morning, Papa Jay took Smith to swim in the hotel pool before we checked out. This kid loves the water!
As I was packing up my overnight bag to leave the hotel, I looked inside and realized I was such a boy mom…sword, Ninja Turtle shell and bow.
We had a little time before our 3:00 PM game, so we headed back across the street to the mall. Smith found him some new orange sunglasses.
Papa Jay and Smith love to farkle…
…but Smith always laughs and says he wins because rock beats everything. He thinks a piece of paper covering a rock is dumb…a rock is a rock…it would whack the heck out of that paper :).
We left the mall and headed to Crave Cupcakes before the game. Hello yummy!
I just love my boy!
I ate a fabulous lemon cupcake! Sooooooo good!
And Smith had dark chocolate 🙂
There is a little play area next to Crave, so he played a minute before we left.
This kid melts my heart.
We arrived at Minute Maid Park for Smith’s first Red Sox game!
Our cheering crowd!
Smith ate popcorn during the game…
…and cotton candy too!
By the 7th inning, this is what Smith thought of watching the Sox and Astros play :). I carried him back to the car and then he woke up as we drove away. We drove straight back to Dallas and were home by 11:00 PM. We had such a fun time together! I love getting some one on one time with my kids.
While we were away…
…Andrew took off work on Friday and he and Kensington had a really fun time too! From what I hear, they swam and ate and ate and swam.
They also made my Butterscotch No Bake Cookies :).
And I want to say one quick thing about my new fun travel tote! Sheaffer was doing a Barrington Bag giveaway a few weeks ago and I left a comment saying I hoped I won…and the nice people at Barrington read my comment and sent me one. Ladies, I love it! It’s big and durable and has my monogram and I’m very thankful for it! If you haven’t checked out Barrington, you should :).
And yesterday afternoon, I noticed that this maxi dress I love was 25% off (making it less than $38), so I mentioned it on Face Book and holy moly! You ladies loved it so much and went on and on about it that I bought a second one too. I bought the black and white striped one because I think it will layer well into fall.
I ordered this black and white striped one yesterday.
It’s Meal Planning Monday today…

Love barrington!! Trying to decide which one to get for myself- which one do you have? And looks like SUCH a fun weekend!!!

Those Barrington bags are to.die.for. I've been lusting after them since you and Sheaffer have been posting about them… but of course I haven't indulged myself yet. If it was something my kids wanted, they'd have had it immediately. But when it comes to myself? I never splurge for the treats! That bag though… I don't think I can resist!
Sounds like a perfect weekend with your boy! <3

Looks like a great time! Why in the world are you wearing a long sleeved shirt in the summer in Texas? I know it looks like it's lace sleeves, but still.
Amie says
Crave cupcakes are the best and the JW is wonderful too!! Question, because we are in Houston often, do people recognize you out and about from your blog? If so, do you mind? I feel like I would have a "OMG your a celeb moment" if I were to see you. haha I did notice Boston pretty much stomped my poor Astros last night. Looks like ya'll had a great time 🙂

I'm so glad you came to H-town, but I wish I could have met you and your sweet fam! Love reading your blog. You inspire me in so many ways. 🙂

I love your "boy mom" bag, with his ninja turtle shell and bow and arrow. I packed clothes for my two-year old son for the weekend, and he packed his ninja turtle mask. Too funny!

Looks like you had a great time! Smith seems like such a sweet little boy! Just out of curiosity, would you ever consider taking one-on-one trips with either of your kids? It seems like you travel with your parents often when you, Andrew, and the kids split up.
Mix and Match Mama says
The only times we've ever split up for trips is when we're doing baseball stuff and I love watching baseball games with my dad :). However, I totally would travel alone with one of my kiddos.
And as for the long sleeve shirt, the last time I went to an Astros/Red Sox game, I froze (because the stadium is indoors and the A/C was blasting!). I decided this time to dress for the A/C and I'm glad I did because it was chilly inside (which is waaaaaay better than sitting in a hot outdoor stadium!).

I don't dread Mondays as much since I always look forward to reading your posts!
