My Day in the Life posts are my very favorite because I know that one day, I will look back at these rather simple and uneventful days with my young kiddos as the very best days in my life.
I picked this last Monday, September 8th as my day to document because it seemed pretty average and routine…Kensington was at school, Andrew was at work and Smith and I were just getting some things done. The next Day in the Life post I do, I’ll be a mama to three…so fun :).
Good morning coffee. 4:35 and I’m up and ready to go!
I headed straight to my office and published Meal Planning Monday…
…and then I published The Hundred Dollar Question too.
On this particular morning, I watched/listened to Friends while I worked.
Poppy follows me around the house and sleeps next to me all morning.
My quiet time included this passage from Sarah Young’s Jesus Calling.
At 6:10, it was time to leave my office and empty the dishwasher.
At 6:30, I went upstairs to wake up this one for school.
My breakfast included an English muffin (half with almond butter and half with pumpkin butter) and a celery/spinach/green apple smoothie.
I put the ingredients to my Crock Pot Chicken Tacos in the slow cooker for supper.
And at 7:10, I went to wake up this guy.
Kensington was so excited because the night before, I changed her chalk board to celebrate her birthday week!
At 7:40, Andrew takes Miss K to kindergarten for the day.
And right around 8:05, this kid and I head to the gym.
It’s pretty common to see hot air balloons around our town…and we saw one this morning.
Walking into the gym with my little man.
I really think I have the prettiest gym…isn’t that a beautiful view?!
Off to work out…
…after my class, I took a quick shower (I didn’t wash my hair though), got dressed and headed out with Erika to the mall.
When we were leaving the gym, the boys wanted to ride together, so I took Nixon in my car and we headed out. I needed to pick up some pants at the mall that Andrew was having altered and then we were going to eat a quick lunch before leaving.
Narci and Presley met us for lunch…I ate breakfast tacos :).
When we left the mall…I had to get gas. Uggg…I hate stopping for gas.
Smith and I hit up the grocery store next for our weekly shopping.
He loves riding in the car cart :).
Back home with an hour to put away the groceries and do a few things before we needed to leave to pick up K.
Laundry in the washing machine.
I checked my email (and took a quick selfie).
Then Smith and I headed up to Kensington’s school and waited in the carpool line…I read this :).
Yay!! Kensington’s home from school!
We headed straight from school to tennis lessons with the Slaughters.
It was HOT. Goodness! The kids did great but Erika, Bowen and I were hot sitting there for an hour during the lesson.
I love me some Bowen!
Tennis greatness 🙂
They were tired after tennis. This is K lying on the mat in the garage…she said she was too tired to walk.
Laundry in the dryer.
I was starving when we got home (right at 5:00) and munched on crackers while I emptied out Kensington’s backpack and went through the mail.
We had a package on the front porch from my sweet friend Ashley!! She is really one of the most thoughtful people I know. It totally made my day!!
Right at 5:30, this handsome guy came home from work.
We ate our chicken tacos.
And the kids did Kensington’s homework with Andrew while I cleaned up after dinner.
The kiddos got their second wind and wanted to swim before bed…I don’t know where they get that energy! I was tired! They swam about 30 minutes.
I made their lunches for school the next day.
And then it was bath time! Part of Ashley’s gift was bath tub stuff for the kiddos…Kensington loved her pink bath!!
We watched an episode of Full House after bath time 🙂
Mulan has been going everywhere with us today…have you noticed?
I started folding laundry the last 10 minutes of Full House…
Then we took a really dark selfie before bed (at 7:45). I love this sweet girl!
He didn’t like his dark selfie, so he said asked me to use the flashlight thing…so I did and it was too bright ;). Love this sweet boy too!
I took a shower and washed my hair before putting on my pjs, eating a brownie and watching a bit of TV with Andrew.
Right around 9:15, I climbed into bed and watched a few more minutes of Friends before going to sleep.
I snapped a pic of the clock on my phone…9:20. We stayed up until right around 10:00 finishing Friends and then went to sleep.
Another average Monday in the Shull house…my very favorite kind of days.
XOXO
On my foodie blog today…

So fun! I posted my first "a day in the life" today too! Know it will be neat to look back one day as a typical day in our current season as an adoptive, missionary family. Excited to follow your journey bringing your daughter home. We brought our girls home one year ago!

Haha, well first of all, Kensington on the floormat in the garage reminds me of myself around 515pm when I get home from work. That was too funny!
I love these day in the life posts, you are SO productive with your days! I'm also pretty darn excited about the green chile baked tacos, we've had some form of your baked tacos nearly every week for over a month! Bit hit!

There's soo much about this post that I love!!! Your life seems so well ordered and wonderful! And you're a smart girl for realizing that these days you're living right now are "the good ol' days"! Your house is just so beautiful and I just love the pumpkin pillow that is on the couch with Andrew while they're doing H.W. Thanks for sharing your fun day! These are the BEST posts you do.

The chicken tacos look delicious! I need to add those to my menu next week. I was wondering if you've ever done a post/shade of shay about your scarf collection? I know I've seen some posts about your favorite scarves, but I would love to see more about what method you use to tie them, or if they're all infinity, etc. So excited to be moving into full-time scarf season!

Every night I go to bed saying the next morning will be the morning I wake up before 6:30 to get stuff done….somehow it never happens though 🙂 I admire your willpower! Is it weird that the one thing I looked hard at was the price of gas?? $3.25 is cheap! We're at $3.69 in Cincinnati.

Where is that yellow t-shirt from that you put on after the gym? It's perfection.

Such a fun post! You will treasure these as you get older – I wish I had written down a day like this when my boys were little. Your gas is so much cheaper than ours – we're about $3.80 a gallon in Washington. I hate filling up my car!

Those tacos look amazing! And I love posts like this. My life is pretty boring but I love to see what other people do all day. 🙂

Hi Shay. We are beginning the home building process and I would love to get your thoughts on a few things…
1. driveway material – is that a stone or stamped concrete
2. do your faucet finishes match your door knob finishes
3. what style interior doors do you have?
I am sure there is more, but that is my start. Can I email you?

Where is the gold necklace from?? It reminds me of Noonday Collection! I noticed it didn't survive the day though…which is totally what I do – wear it out but take it off by afternoon! And no way it would have survived sitting in the hot sun during tennis!! -Sara

Aside from the kids school and activities, that is pretty much a day in the life of Kim too. My kids are now 25 and almost 22, and don't live at home anymore! Wish I had thought to do this blog thing back in the day! Enjoy each and every day because they go by in a blink of an eye! Love your blog Shay, thank you for sharing even the little things with all of us loyal readers! Have a great Wednesday!

Okay question about your nightly brownie. How do you always have brownies in the house and keep them fresh to have one piece a day? Do you bake them weekly/monthly and then freeze and take out a piece each night? I am trying to understand the logistics, haha.
Kelly says
Thank you for sharing your day! I love reading about other mom's lives. You are so darn productive, I need to take lessons from you!

How on earth do you get up so early and make it through the day?!
Cathy F says
Your day in the life posts are so fun! Your day seems very productive. just wondering, do you certain times of the day that you are online (reading other blogs, pinterest and social media)? I find when I go online it is soooo easy for me to get distriacted from what I should be doing.

Do you clean your own home Shay or do you have a cleaning lady or service? Great post as usual!
Alexandra says
That picture of Smith and Andrew is too cute! Those are the kinds of pictures my mom always had framed growing up…she thought professional photography was a waste of money and it always upset me that we didn't have "real" pictures in our house. Now that I'm grown, I realize those are the most special and most real.:)

I love day in the life posts! I get up early to get ready for work but the earlier I get up, the earlier my infant and 3 year old get up. I think they have an alarm on my side of the bed!

Hey Shay – I love reading your blog and it has been a fixture in my morning coffee routine since Sean first appeared on the Bachelorette.
The only thing I struggled with from today's post was all the plastic bags from your grocery trip! Reusable bags fit so many items and they can be fun and stylish too!
