I was watching a rerun of Everybody Loves Raymond the other night and it was a Thanksgiving episode, and Debra was preparing her meal and kept saying she needed “her yellow” for the menu…this my friends can be your yellow this Thanksgiving :).
I make this more than just with the big bird on the big day…it goes really well as a side dish to casseroles, chili, grilled steaks or chicken…just anytime you need a yellow, think of this dish.
This recipe serves 4 to 6 adults as a side dish and can be easily doubled.
Shopping List
1 (10 oz) package of frozen corn, thawed
1/2 cup whipping cream or half and half
1/2 cup milk (I used 2%)
a pinch of salt
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon butter, melted
1 tablespoon flour
Combine the first five ingredients in a saucepan over medium-high heat and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer while stirring occasionally. In a small bowl, whisk together butter and flour until smooth. Whisk butter mixture into corn and stir until it thickens up a bit, stirring constantly. Serve and enjoy.
This Thanksgiving, if you’re asked to bring a side or to bring the yellow…you should bring this.

"Needs a yellow". Hilarious. My mom and I always talk on Thanksgiving about how we "need a green". 🙂
