Life lately has been unpredictable…thanks to the silly weather. After what we thought was a mild winter, we’ve had a layer of snow on the ground for a week and three “snow days” from school due to ice. We’ve stayed in, stayed cozy and enjoyed the time at home.
This week is Spring Break, so even though it’s been raining a lot, we’ve tried to get out and make it special…
During our snow days, Smith pulled our two Pottery Barn chairs into my office and decided to watch movies while I did some work. I love having my little guy right next to me.
I’m pretty sure we didn’t get out of our pajamas for about 3 days. Love this girl!
Oops! More ice and snow…no school again…
…Kensington looks crushed, right? 😉 I’ve never seen someone get into “snow day” mode faster than this kid!
We bundled up and did some sledding after breakfast. These two had the BEST time!!
At this point, we had sled, were drinking cocoa and were just about to make cookies…and it was only 8:43 a.m. We have to learn to sleep in on snow days!
The next day was Friday (Kensington’s last day of school before Spring Break) and after school, we asked Kensington what she wanted to do over Spring Break. She replied, “Go shopping and eat lunch with just mom.” I love that kid. The very next morning, Andrew stayed home with Smith and Ashby and I took my girl out for some shopping…
I love spending time with this kid!
We had brunch at the Cheesecake Factory (eggs are Kensington’s love language…so brunch is always a good idea with her!).
Walking back to the car together. I loved having this one on one time with my oldest.
Later that night, we headed to my parents’ house to celebrate my dad’s 60th birthday. This year, my mom brought in a food truck…
…it was awesome! My dad is such a kid at heart and he LOVED this! The truck served sliders, chips, drinks and cupcakes. It was such a fun party!
The kids’ table was loving their sliders!
Here I am with my two burgers…one had strawberry jam and goat cheese and the other had bacon and peanut butter…I mean…seriously, fabulous!
Each day this Spring Break, we’re trying to do one thing special for the kids (especially K since she’s the one actually in school). On Saturday, Kensington and I went shopping, on Sunday night, we had the Slaughters over for dinner and then on Monday, Narci invited Kensington and Ebby Lee over for a play date while Erika and I were able to take the younger kids to play at Chick-fil-a.
After our play date, Smith told me he needed to exercise to stay healthy…
…I found him upstairs in his pajamas (“workout clothes” he told me) lifting one pound dumbbells. This kid cracks me up.
Kensington came home from Narci’s house with homemade crayons, stickers and some jewels. She had the very best time!
For dinner, our special treat for the kiddos’ was to take them to dinner here…
…our local Japanese Steakhouse. My kiddos love eating here! This was Ashby’s first time having a Hibachi supper. I love this pic because Kensington is smiling, Ashby is ready to pray (so she can eat) and Smith is very focused. Those three.
Love my girl!
Ashby was a BIG fan of her supper!
The magic of Hibachi.
After dinner, we took the kids for some ice cream…this about sums us up. That silly third kid. She’s a cute little mess :).
On Tuesday morning, the kiddos all three slept in and then we headed to the library. This was my first time to take all three of them. My thoughts…I’m totally outnumbered at the library! They all three wanted to sit in my lap, they all three wanted me to read to them at the same time…they all three had fun but I needed a nap when it was over!
Smith said we needed a “leaving the library picture” too :).
After the library, we met Andrew at our local diner for an early lunch. Ashby was really eyeing Kensington’s hot chocolate…
…big sister problems :).
Whew! Spring Break is halfway over and today…we’re at the zoo. I bet it’s going to be a whole lot of crazy…and fun too!
For dinner tonight, I made one of my favorites…
…BBQ Quesadillas. I am obsessed with these babies!
Happy Wednesday!

I really enjoy reading your blog each morning. I am a working mom with 2 kids, 4 & 2 and just broke my ankle the other day. I feel pretty useless right about now & your recipe this morning gave me some inspiration I can crock pot! It sounds delish, and I think the kids will love it!

1) those quesadillas look AMAZING!

Just love reading your blog and the photos of you all having fun. Ashby is really settling in and enjoying what everyone else does. One question….You got snow and had on winter gear then some pictures show no snow and you have no coats on. Can you explain???? Looks like snow on the ground and then poof no snow on the ground.
Mix and Match Mama says
Haha! That's Texas! It will snow one day and be 60 the next two days…and then snow again. These pics are all in chronological order…so yeah, our weather is nutty :).
live compassionately says
Hahaha perfect response 🙂 It does that in Oklahoma too – we have had snow, ice, 70 degrees & sunny, tornadoes, and floods all in the sams week!
live compassionately says
Welp…I definitely meant same and not sams. Haha!

We live in the DFW area too and had Easy Sliders on Saturday as well. We went shopping at the Dallas Flea and that truck was there. My son and I split the same burgers you had and they were surprisingly good!! So fun! I hope your dad had a wonderful day! I've been a long time reader, first time commenter. Just wanted to say hello! 🙂

I love your "life lately" posts. It's heart warming to see your family together in everyday moments and Ashby's smiling little face. I know it probably isn't perfect all of the time, but you can feel the love you all have for each other in your pictures. And I love how Smith loves to be close to you. I miss the days when my now 19 year old was happy to hold my hand in public.

Love these posts!

I can't believe all that snow! Y'all definitely have the best of both worlds in Dallas…long summers of swimming and just the right amount of winter!

2 things: Kensington has such a grown-up face. Especially in the snow day picture where she's lounging out with a bowl of cereal. She's remarkably beautiful!
2nd: that picture of sweet Smith with his head resting on K's shoulder! I have no words- it's precious! I just want to kiss him, he's so cute!

Please oh please do a shade of Shay on where you buy your girls' clothes (besides Nordstrom) cause I rarely see the clothes your kiddos are wearing at Nordstrom.
