Show & Tell Tuesday: My Favorite Room


It’s Show and Tell Tuesday!  
I’m linking up with my girl Andrea and I’m showing and telling :).  
Today’s theme…My Favorite Room.
No surprise here, my favorite room in our house is our kitchen…
When we began the building process, we sat down with a little piece of paper and started sketching what we wanted…and it all centered around our kitchen.
 We wanted the kitchen really open and in the center of the house.  We wanted it to be the spot where people gathered.

This is our fridge hiding behind those heavy doors.

 On either side of my farmhouse sink is a dishwasher.

This is our favorite part of the kitchen (and maybe even my favorite part of the house).  We sit up here, the kids play up here, every morning, I read my Bible and have breakfast up here, I can use this space for serving platters during parties, people can sit right there and chat with us while we’re cooking… it’s just a great place right by the big windows looking out.

Right off of the coffee bar area is our little prep kitchen area.  This little area (often called a butler’s pantry) is between the kitchen and dining room and holds an extra sink, mini fridge, ice maker and all of our china, seasonal dishes and serving pieces.

And then, it wouldn’t be a tour of my kitchen without peeking inside my pantry too…
This is looking in with the door open.  My walls are a blue-grey color and my counters are black granite.  I had my friend Amy make me a piece of subway art with my favorite dessert recipes on it and I have a step stool for reaching some higher shelves.  
On one side of the pantry, I have our food items.

These are my baking ingredients…

 …and putting chalkboard stickers on jars is about as crafty as I get :).
 On the other side of the kitchen, I have cabinets and drawers underneath the counter for storage and then our most used appliances sit on the counter (with the exception of my Keurig…it sits out in the kitchen in my coffee bar area).

I keep our every day dishes and serving pieces in the upper cabinets.

So, there you have it.  My very favorite room in the house!  This is where we live :).

    I love your kitchen!!! We are waist deep in a kitchen renovation right now (10 days in with 4 kids…ahhhh)!!! I haven't finalized my granite. Do you know the name of yours? It's very similar to my top choice.

    Gorgeous! I love that you have a double dishwasher. I had that at my house in college and it ruined me for life. Hahaha. Getting out in the real world with one measly dishwasher was a shock! #firstworldproblems

    Shay, I have never commented on your blog before, but I do read it all the time. I love your decorating style…your house is beautiful! I also love reading about Ashby and your kiddo's… I have two myself 🙂 But, Everytime I see pictures of your house on the blog, I notice the tiny lamps you have all around… in the kitchen, pantry, etc. I have an obsession with lamps and warm soft lighting. Where did you get yours? They are all so pretty! -Angela

    Your house is gorgeous and I love that you picked your kitchen. We're in the midst of completely renovating our new house and the kitchen is one part of the reno that I'm obsessed with and want to make all the right decisions. Now that you've been living in your new gorgeous house for awhile now, is there anything you would have done differently to your kitchen?

Did you guys design your whole house or just remodel the kitchen and certain areas? Also, do you mind me asking where you got your rugs from (the one in the kitchen nook and by the stove)?     PLEASE HELP! I have dark granite counter tops in my kitchen and no matter what I use it leaves behind residue. I first clean them with a disinfectant and wipe them dry, then I clean them with a granite polish, wipe them down to dry and then I have to go over them (AGAIN) with a clean dry microfiber cloth because if i dont and run my fingertips across the top, I can see in the sunlight that its almost like dust streaks. What do you use?

      I just use 409 for Granite and Stone. I love it! Cleans and disinfects without streaking.

    Your kitchen is GORGEOUS! A dream come true to be able to design it yourself I'm sure. I absolutely lve your walk in pantry as well and love the way you keep your flour, chips, etc in those jars. So simple and smart. I have some similar but no scoops so I'm on the hunt for some now!

    We're currently building so I guess I'm paying attention to details…my favorite thing about your kitchen…the hardware on the cabinetry. GREAT CHOICE! PS…we used the kilim beige in our last house and LOVED it.

    Beautiful! I have a random question…we are also building and I wanted to do 2 dishwashers, one on each side of the sink, but I am struggling with where to put the garbage. Is yours close to the sink or further away? Sorry I know totally bizarre question!

    Love that kitchen! Finding a house with a gorgeous kitchen is SO TRICKY. Some day I am going to build my own so I can get exactly what I want, but for now I'll settle for functional and nice enough. My fingers are crossed because our kitchen is totally where we live too.
