I mean…you add sea salt to chocolate and the whole thing is instantly elevated. Sea salt just makes chocolate better, right?
I made a blondie and topped it with dark chocolate frosting with a pinch of salt…and it was divine. I’m not going to lie…I had two pieces. Love. I was in love.
If you can’t find dark chocolate chips, you can substitute with semi-sweet…either way, you’re going to love these bars.
Shopping List
1 box of yellow cake mix
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 eggs
1/2 cup of butter, softened
3 cups powdered sugar
1 tablespoon or so of milk
1 1/2 cups dark chocolate chips
1 teaspoon of sea salt plus a little more for garnish
1 teaspoon of sea salt plus a little more for garnish
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Grease (I use Pam) a 9×13 baking dish. Set aside.
In a large mixing bowl combine cake mix, vegetable oil and eggs with an electric mixer. Pour batter into prepared baking dish and bake about 14 minutes.
Remove from oven and allow to cool completely on the counter before frosting.
To make the frosting, beat the butter, powdered sugar and milk with an electric mixer. Next, melt your chocolate chips in the microwave (stopping every 30 seconds to stir). Pour melted chocolate into your frosting mixture and beat until combined. Add more powdered sugar if the frosting is too thin and more milk if it’s too thick. Beat in your sea salt. Once it reaches the desired consistency, frost the cooled bars and garnish with just a bit more salt. Store in fridge when not enjoying.
I mean…really…you should make these. Forget boring old brownies, be the one that brings Dark Chocolate Salted Blondies to your next social event.
