Um, did you know that today was National Hot Dog Day? Well, it is! Because it’s the middle of summer and I seriously don’t want to heat up my kitchen cooking, we’re going to celebrate this tonight on the patio. My kids will think it’s super fun! We’re going to have hot dogs and Soda Pop-sicles. That’s fun, right?
This is my recipe for Maple Mustard Dogs. I’m such a sucker for maple and Dijon together. Yum-my!
Give yourself a break from cooking tonight and throw on some dogs too.
It’s National Hot Dog Day!
Shopping List
4 to 6 hot dogs (turkey, beef, chicken…whatever you like!)
1 onion, chopped
Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO)
Salt and Pepper
1/2 cup Dijon mustard
3 tablespoons maple syrup (good quality!)
hot dog buns
In a skillet over medium-high heat, saute your onions in a drizzle of EVOO and a pinch of S&P. Reduce heat to low and let them caramelize about 10 minutes.
Meanwhile, in a small bowl, combine your Dijon and syrup with a pinch of S&P. Reserve.
Grill your hot dogs over medium-high heat until warmed through (about 5-8 minutes).
Serve each dog in a bun topped with your caramelized onions and a drizzle of your maple mustard sauce.
