Well, over the years, I have mixed and matched 33 versions of the Neiman Marcus Bar. So, basically, I’m a third of the way through a third set of “100s” without even trying :).
Some people call these bars Gooey Butter Bars or Gooey Butter Cakes, but here in the Dallas area (home to the flagship Neiman Marcus), we often refer to them as Neiman Marcus Bars because they’re so rich ;).
I didn’t think it was right for me to wrap up my 100 Bars and not share the original version with you. I’ve mixed and matched Toasted Almond, Salted Caramel Chocolate, Cinnamon Spice, Irish Cream, Egg Nog, Peanut Butter…well, you get the point, I’ve given you 33 versions and today, I’m giving you the original.
Enjoy!
Shopping List
1 box of yellow cake mix
4 eggs
1/2 cup butter, melted
1 box of powdered sugar (about 4 cups)
8 oz package of cream cheese, softened
4 eggs
1/2 cup butter, melted
1 box of powdered sugar (about 4 cups)
8 oz package of cream cheese, softened
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease (I use Pam) a 9×13 inch baking dish.
In bowl, combine cake mix, 2 eggs and melted butter. Spread in bottom of pan as your “crust” layer.
In a second bowl, beat the powdered sugar, remaining 2 eggs and cream cheese until smooth with an electric mixer. Spread on top of crust mixture.
Bake 35-40 minutes until edges are brown and center set (it will still be slightly wobbly in the middle).
Cool on counter 30 minutes, then refrigerate 2 hours up to 2 days.
These yummy bars are gooey, rich and perfect for any occasion.
