Seven. Eeks! Someone hold me! Seven sounds so much bigger than six to me!
A few little facts about seven year old Kensington:
1. She is a self-proclaimed homebody. She loves putting on her pjs and staying in :).
2. Ground beef anything is her favorite meal. Burgers, Sloppy Joes, soups with ground beef, tacos…anything with ground beef is a win with her!
3. Her whole world is American Girl right now (more to come about her birthday later!)…she love, love, loves American Girl dolls, movies and books.
4. She loves crafting/coloring/cutting…anything artsy. She’s always in the mood to whip up something artistic.
5. She has a love/hate relationship with dance. She loves jazz and tap and does not care for ballet (it’s too slow and boring for her).
6. She loves being outside and doing outdoorsy stuff…but thinks that learning to ride a bike isn’t important. When will she ever need to ride a bike? She has no interest in this skill and it makes me laugh…because honestly, when was the last time I rode a bike?!?! #shemighthaveapoint
7. This girl loves being in the kitchen. It doesn’t matter what I say I’m making…she’ll help me make any and everything. I love her help, but more than anything, I love spending time with her.
8. She’s such a good sister to Ashby and Smith. She has taken to this adoption better than I could have ever imagined. You can just tell that God didn’t just call Andrew and me to adopt…He called Kensington too! She is amazing with her little sister.
9. For lunch today, we told her we’d bring her something special to eat at school and she said Chinese food. And then for dinner, we told her she could pick anything she wants to eat and she said, Chinese food. So…if you’re looking for us today, we’ll be out eating…Chinese food.
That’s our birthday girl!
I went into the hospital on September 14…not knowing if I was having a boy or a girl…and then a loooooong time later, on September 15, I had a c-section and at 2:34 PM, the doctors pulled out this beautiful baby girl…
…who immediately stole our hearts.
Happy birthday Kensington!
Okay…if I weren’t eating Chinese food tonight (for the second time today), I would be eating this…
…my Apple Turkey Burgers.
Little bits of Apple and sharp white cheddar cheese pair beautifully with this yummy weeknight burger!
Enjoy 😉

I always pick Chinese food for my birthday dinner too – as an adult, having to work all day long just makes it more relaxing then going out (unless it falls on a weekend! I hope she enjoys her double dose of it today!

My baby turned 7 in May…such a fun age! She loves all things AG, too, but loves ballet and hates tap. 🙂 Maybe I shared this before? It's a take or leave thought- we took the training wheels and pedals off the bike and created a cheap balance bike that our younger two coasted around on. A month or so later we put the pedals back on and they zoomed right off!

Happiest of birthdays to Kensington!!! She is such a beautiful little girl and the pictures you have are so precious! I have to also say it makes me feel better my middle son asks for pizza every year for his birthday dinner when I would make him anything in the world. If Mix and Match Mama's daughter wants takeout, then it's good enough for him too ; )

Happy Birthday to Kensington! I, too, didn't learn to ride a bike until I was 8 or so…and not without a lot of tears. I didn't see a need in knowing how to ride a bike, my Mom took me everywhere I needed to go and I didn't have friends who lived in our neighborhood like my brother did, so a bike was so unnecessary. I did finally learn how to ride it, then we moved out to the country and I pretty much never rode a bike again.
But, 30+ years later I got a grown up bike for my birthday and I. LOVE. MY. BIKE!!! It's one of my favorite forms of exercise, especially on hot summer days! Wrote about it here: http://signature-you.blogspot.com/2014/10/write31days-oct-2-bike-ride.html

I can vouch for the fact that the next seven years will fly by. Our daughter, Olivia, turns 14 tomorrow. I can't even believe it…next year she'll get her drivers license! Hope Kensington has a fantastic day!

Happy Birthday to Kensington! BTW, I am 25 and felt the same way about riding a bike when I was little. To this day, I can't ride a bike! My parents never pushed me to learn and I never had any interest at all. I only wanted to dance!! My friends always joke around with me about not knowing how to ride one!

Happy birthday to that beautiful girl! If I didn't have my family to grow up in and I could choose what family I'd want to be in — I'd choose yours in a heartbeat! Those kids are so blessed!

You should start riding bikes with your kids! Not only is it a great way to tire them out (ha!) but they can ride to the park or just around their driveway! If they see that their mama loves to bike, they might really want to join in too! Just s thought 🙂 HBD to Kensington! She is truly a beautiful little girl!

Happy Birthday Kensington!!!! My 4 year old son refuses to ride his bike. He sits on it and he'll let us push him around, but that's it. He'd rather build something or collect rocks. My 15 month old loves the bike and if he could reach the pedals, he'd be gone! It's been so long since I rode a bike…maybe before I got my driver's license…..probably not a necessary skill.
Valerie Hutton says
Shay, I just enjoy your blog so, so much. When I read the little bit about your daughter and not riding a bike, I sighed (a little bit from relief) because my sweet girl is 12 and doesn't know how and has no interest in riding a bike. She loved her little bike with training wheels when she was a preschooler but every single time we have tried to get her to learn since then, it's full of tears and stress. So, a couple of years I just had to let it go. I think I'm the one who is more stressed about it because of the "sweet" comments and such from others if they happen to find out she doesn't know how to ride a bike. But, she is sweet, smart, and wonderful in so many other ways (just as I know you think the same of Kensington) that we just dropped it and she'll learn when/if she wants to. Blessings…

My daughter, who is now almost 26, never learned to ride a bike either. She tried, but just couldn't do it. She tells me that that fact came in handy in college….when asked an ice breaker question such as tell us something about you that is unique, she always said she could not ride a bike! She says it was a great Segway to meeting people!
