Oh heavens, thank goodness it’s Friday.
This is been a weird week. With the kids home on Monday, the week has felt rushed, crammed and crazy. I’m happy to see Friday morning today. #mamaneedsaweekend
Today, I’m linking up with Narci, Erika and Andrea and sharing some of my favorite things from this week.
Lots of little things to make us happy on a Friday.
Happy weekend to YOU!
On Tuesday, we shared our love of Pinterest on Show & Tell Tuesday. We were asked to share our favorite pins (to which, I have many)…but last week, I saw this one pin and I really, really, really love it…
Love this so much.
Sometimes, I think as women (especially busy mamas), we don’t make time for hobbies or our own needs and interests, so this quote really encouraged me. I wish I could find the source for it because I would follow the person…but nevertheless, I found it inspirational. You can see my Quotes and Words To Live By board here.
Heather S. from Plano (a neighboring city) sent me this email last week…
Woohoo! Thank YOU friends for recommending this Clinique Moisture Surge to me so that I could share it with the group. Seriously, I love this stuff so much and am so happy that you guys told me to try it! Thank you Heather for the sweet email and for allowing me to share it. xo
So, after we discussed the Clinique Moisture Surge, several of you told me to try Clinique’s City Block Sheer SPF 25 which leads us to…
Oh my word! Okay…another winner (seriously, why have I not heard of this stuff before???)! I like to wear an SPF daily and after I mentioned that, I had several people comment/email that I should try this City Block Sheer because it DOUBLES AS A PRIMER.
Amen.
I put my regular moisturizer on and then apply this in lieu of both my normal SPF and my face primer. After that, I proceed with…
…my tinted moisturizer/illuminator mix and go. I love this SPF so much that I bought another tube to keep in my gym bag. Don’t just take my word for it, read the reviews, they’re stellar!
And in case you forgot about the above picture…
…you take one drop of your foundation or tinted moisturizer (right now, I’m using Bobbi Brown’s tinted moisturizer in Medium Tint) and combine it with one drop of your illuminator (I use Nars Hot Sand and loooove it…read the reviews! Apparently everyone loves it!) and it really makes your foundation/tinted moisturizer look better! Instead of looking flat/dull/chalky, it adds a bit of life to it and really makes it blend better and your overall complexion look better.
See the pic above: I have one drop of each and I combine them together and apply it with my beauty blender. Try this tip! I love it!
Shoes, shoes, shoes and more shoes were a fourth favorite this week! I posted myself wearing two different pairs of shoes and they are both my favorites…
And then of course, these babies are always faves in my closet…
I heart the white Converse. Oh how I love them so :). I love the “shoreline” style because you don’t tie them. You just slip them on and go.
To see outfit details from all of this, make sure you click here to see this week’s What I Wore Wednesday.
And I’m finishing off my week with a simple (yet beautiful), easy (yet delicious) dessert…
This takes all of the bells and whistles from Bananas Foster and puts into one quick little trifle recipe.
Happy Friday friends!
Love you all so much!
xo

Wahoo for the weekend!!!! I completely agree! It's been a crazy weird short/long week! Glad it's Friday!
Narci says
Oh yay! I'm loving all of these great products to try!! Can't wait to check them out!!! 🙂
Jessica Salomon says
I have the most dry skin ever and it was always difficult for me to wear make up due to the dryness right in the middle of my forehead. I started using the Clinique moisture surge in May and it has been my holy grail ever since! I used it morning and night and my skin feels so much more hydrated than it ever has!
Sasha Posey says
I'm curious which moisture surge product you use. I have very dry skin and would like to try it but there is a mask, an intense hydrator and several other products … Which is the best?
Sheaffer {Pinterest Told Me To} says
So I guess I need an illuminator. And everybody needs a pair of shoreline converse…I never wear my original pair anymore!
Tali says
I love reading your blog and especially your Friday favourites. I have used Clinque for years and is always my suggestion to people when they're asking about needing new make up. Love the SPF factor!
I also write my own weekly Friday Favourites post!

I love your earrings in the picture of you wearing a vest and nude flats–they look like long hoops. Where did you get them?
Mix and Match Mama says
They're Stella & Dot!
Tanya says
I have been meaning to ask you….where did you get your adorable cheetah ottoman and bar stools? Love them! Love your style! Love your house! Love your KSU ties! Love your faith!

Mix and Match Mama says
They both came from Hemispheres Furniture :).
Jen Fisher says
Totally off subject but…I was at Starbucks yesterday and saw they have a butterscotch latte and frap. Have you tried either?
Mix and Match Mama says
I haven't!! Butterscotch is one of my love languages too!! I must try one!
Abbey Draa says
I tried it a couple days ago and it was yummy… Sorta on the sweet/rich side (not quite as sweet as a white chocolate mocha),but a fun little treat to mix up my normal sbux order.
Hannah -Lugimom Blog- says
Love both shoes!! I need some new spring pairs so I am checking those out. And the combo foundation/illuminator tip is so smart! Thanks!
Nicole says
Shay! I need your help! I'm making your Cadbury egg brownies for tonight & they don't have the mini eggs out yet – or at least I couldn't find them. Would you suggest just cutting them in half and follow directions as usual? Would that work? Thanks.
Mix and Match Mama says
I would cut a normal size egg in fourths. It won't cut evenly but that's okay! Girl, bring one to my house please! 🙂
Amanda M says
I bought the Moisture Surge after you recommended it last week and I was so happy when it came in the mail yesterday. I couldn't wait to put it on my face last night and I definitely woke up today with my skin feeling hydrated! Amen to no more peeling faces during this dry February month!!
Jaime says
I know you have answered this a million times, but I can't seem to find the answer anywhere. What socks do you wear with your shoreline sneakers?
Mix and Match Mama says
I used to wear the no-show socks from Nordstrom…but recently, I've just been wearing them without socks. I'm weird. I wear my booties without socks too. I know, weird.
KRISTIN TATE says
I'm back at Clinique like 9th grade after reading your blog and reviews! I better grab a bottle of Happy to seal the deal.
Jessy Foster-lee says
Hahaha, 9th grade….me too:). Still laughing about happy… Does anyone still remember, almost lipstick?
Eryn Morel says
Do the converse fit true to size?
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes!!
Taylor and Robin says
Do the shoreline converse fit true to size? I had to go down a lot for the regular ones, so I wanted to check. Thanks!!
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes! I bought them in 8s (my normal size).
IsntThatGrand says
As a non-fashion mag reader, non-shopper, I love your tips Shay! I used lots of products you've recommended. Quick (and maybe silly) question – once you put your makeup on, do you put sunscreen over it later in the day? If so, doesn't it mess up the makeup?
Mix and Match Mama says
That's the hard part about reapplying SPF! I like this one because it's not greasy (which is what usually messes up my makeup). I apply it after the fact later in the day to my nose, chin, forehead and cheeks. I apply sparingly, but no, it doesn't mess up my makeup.
IsntThatGrand says
Thank you! Appreciate the response! I am so clueless about makeup 🙂
IsntThatGrand says
And, you were SO right about the Urban Decay eye shadow primer – I've never had eye makeup stay all day.
Kelsey @ The Peacock Roost says
I am definitely going to try the moisture surge after seeing how much everyone loves it! I'm debating on the Shoreline converse too. I feel like they would be perfect with skinny jeans for spring!

Ugh. Can we just have a moment of silence for City Block? I have it in my house, gym bag, purse and one at work….just in case. I especially love it in the summer!
Megan says
I need to try the Clinique moisture surge. Wonder if it'll work on my hands?! Ha! Or if they have a product that would help. They are always so dry!!
Lindsay at Lindsay'sSweetWorld says
Girl, your desserts speak straight to my heart (or my tummy) every single time! Banana desserts are my favorite!
thebuieblog says
Do you wear powder over your tinted moisturizer/hot sand? If so, what kind?
KRISTIN TATE says
I was on the website, would you go with the 40 spf for city block?
Brandie says
I had to say thank you for the cAmi recommendation! I ordered the black and white nordstrom two way cami that you linked the other day. I wasn't sure if I wanted to spend that on two Camis but they are sooo worth it. They fit great and do not ride up at all…unlike the BP camis from Nordstrom I have been wearing! They feel great under my tops!! Thank you!!!!
Mal says
Hi! Quick question for you – I think I remember you saying at one point that you used Journee bio-restorative day cream with spf 30 by Neocitrus. I use it and love it, so I am wondering if you still use it or if you replaced it by something else. If the latter, how does the new compare to it? What do you like better about it? And if I'm totally off my rocker and you've never used it, then I apologize for asking 🙂 thank you!!!
Mix and Match Mama says
Hi! Okay, I used Journee for years and years but about a year ago, I switched to Rodan+Fields and love it just as much! I really like thick, creamy day creams and they both fit the bill!
Elizabeth Birenbaum says
I'm obsessed with those Converse! I bought the white and then returned them for the black because I thought they looked "too white" since I'm not really a white shoe person. BUT seeing you (and a bunch of my friends) wearing them… I think I need a second pair! My work is really casual and I can wear jeans and tennis shoes and I think they are perfect for summer too!
Natalie Gardner says
How do you apply your Retin-A? Do you mix it with your lotion every night?
