It’s Monday!
My kiddos don’t have school today…so, it’s a Monday that feels like what? Not a Saturday because they can’t stay up late since it’s a school night…and not a Sunday because we didn’t go to church. I don’t know what it feels like…but it’s a fun day when we don’t really have to do anything at all. Here’s hoping you have a fun day too!
Here’s a little look at our weekend…
Friday night means date night…for six. 😉
Smith had a flag football game on Saturday and my friend Brooke brought this car for her daughter. Well, when her daughter wasn’t in it, Miss Madeley crawled right up inside and was ready to go. Good thing big sister Ashby was nearby!
(And side note: my sweet friend Brooke is also adopting a little girl from China! Isn’t that so cool?!?! They are expected to travel around March…and we cannot wait to meet this newest friend. I just love, love, love when people step out on faith and adopt. We could not be happier for Brooke and her hubby who will now also have a party of six 😉 ).
So, after football, we headed to one of our very favorite events of the year…Southlake’s Oktoberfest! (That’s the little town by my parents’ house.) We look forward to this ALL YEAR LONG!
We walked up and of course, the children all ran over and mobbed Papa Jay. He’s always the rock star of the group ;).
Oktoberfesting with Lovie too! We laughed because it looked like my mom was choking Ashby but she was really just getting her chin high enough for the selfie 😉 .
Root beer, check!
Oh how we love Oktobefest! Funny enough, a sweet member of Southlake’s Chamber of Commerce stopped me and thanked me for promoting their little town. Ha! I do love me some Southlake and do tend to talk about it a lot. I thanked them for always giving my family a happy little way to spend a Saturday. If you’re a local, you should head there any weekend because it’s just a fun place to be!
Chasing bubbles in the street. Sometimes, I feel like having kids is like herding cats. Just an observation I have sometimes 🙂 .
Mom and me. We both had on plaid shirts and were wearing the same necklaces. Her’s says Lovie, mine says Red Sox. Love her so much!
(Psssst: my shirt is here and those are the engravable necklaces you find here.)
We had a party of 11 for dinner, so we decided it would be easier to go to one of Southlake’s restaurants for dinner and then do dessert on the street. Madeley was pumped that she could color on the table!
This sweet girl loves Oktoberfest as much as her mama!
My sweet little nephew.
Two things: we all fight over who gets to hold Samuel. And my dad taught me how to draw bubble letters when I was little and as you can see, he was teaching Ashby too 😉 .
This girl. Love her so much.
Papa Jay brought Samuel over to talk to Madeley.
After dinner, we hit the streets again…and this girl picked a Nutella crepe for dessert.
Oktoberfest with my peeps.
They were in line to play and I asked to take their picture. Kensington has posing down…Ashby does not. Ha!
All the fun!
Look at all three of them holding on to each other :).
My little brother and me.
My favorite date.
I love when we do things that exert so much energy!
All smiles as she pulls her little sister down behind her.
Do you think they like each other?
This only shows a quarter of Oktoberfest. It’s HUGE!
Holding shoes and waiting for kids.
Everyone had something painted on them! A cupcake, a Captain America symbol and a butterfly.
A sweet way to end our night.
We heart Oktoberfest. And Southlake, TX. And a fun weekend with family.

Looks like a fun weekend! This is one of the best times of the year to live in Texas. We have Wurstfest coming up here in New Braunfels. Before my first Wurstfest, I didn’t know that anyone could wear Lederhosen without a hint of irony, but you see gobs of authentic Lederhosen at Wurstfest! 🙂
Sheaffer says
What a fun weekend! Our Saturday consisted of watching football ALL.DAY.LONG. But it also consisted of chips and dips all day long, so I was fine with it! Your pics are so sweet. Loved the one of the three bigs holding on to each other!
Britt says
Your boots at Oktoberfest! Can you provide a link?
Mix and Match Mama says

I giggled at your picture of the kids mobbing your dad. It’s the same with us. If my dad is around my son, everyone else is a side attraction. My boy loves his poppa! 🙂

Oh my gosh this looks like so much fun!! I so wish our town or something close did something like this!
Sarah Shaneyfelt says
Such a fun weekend!! I haven’t been to an Oktoberfest in so long! And I bought that same JCrew shirt a couple of weeks ago and it was finally cool enough to wear it yesterday. It’s my new favorite!

What a fun time at Oktoberfest!!!!! I’ll need to see if there’s something like that here in Charlotte!! I think I always figured it was more of a drinking event, haha, but it looks like it’s very kid-friendly!!
Hope you and the kiddos have a great day today!!! We are heading to my 37-week ultrasound, woot woot!!

Looks like a fun weekend! I’m glad to see that my family isn’t the only family who have a ginormous party when they head to dinner! When we’re all there, we have 17. Reservations get a little tricky!

Such a fun weekend, full of family, fun and food. The. Best. Here’s an out of the box question, where did Andrew get his plaid shirt that he is wearing on Saturday? Ha! I am trying to get my husband on board the fashion train:).

Such sweet pictures. Baby Samuel is growing so quickly. Madeley is darling and just looks like she’s adjusted so well. I love how she’s always smiling now. My daughter went to Octoberfest in Nashville this weekend. 🙂 We had a Brio when we lived in Richmond, VA…yummy!!! (how’ that for a bunch of random thoughts 😉

Is Ashby really eating a salad for dinner? Amazing! Teach me your ways! ????
Mix and Match Mama says
Hahaha! Yes, that’s Ashby! That is not any of my other kids, but that is Ashby. They’ll eat salads with their meals but not as their meal. She LOVES her veggies!
Libby says
Love love love reading your blog every day and seeing your beautiful family! Your blog and Sheaffer’s are the ones I look forward to every morning! 🙂 (Totally random, but we took a little family trip to the Gaylord this summer and on one of the streets right by the hotel I saw a little sign–something about Jay Lowe–I’m assuming that’s your dad? It made me smile 🙂 And Samuel looks JUST like your brother…….he is so precious!!
Mix and Match Mama says
Yeah! That’s my dad’ office :).
Nicole Wubbena says
Beautiful photos! You know, if we didn’t know Samuel was Sean and Catherine’s boy, I would’ve totally guessed that he was YOUR baby. The resemblance is uncanny. 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
I call that the ultimate compliment! I’d take that boy any day of the week :).
Lauren Austin says
I love me some Southlake! I also love that my parents live so close to there now…we spend a lot of time shopping and eating there when we are in town! Your kids are getting so big and that Madeley is the cutest! We need to plan a trip there in Oct so we can experience Oktober Fest!
Pam says
Ummm you look flawless – can you please do an updated makeup post soon? Your eyelashes look almost fake, they’re so gorgeous! And, your skin! (although I’ve never see your skin look anything but perfect – even when you’re traveling and sleep deprived…) Anyway, please fill us in! Mascara, liner, base makeup, blush/bronzer? Skin care?
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh Pam! I don’t know you but I love you :). I’m sure it was the lighting. I’ll do an updated post soon though! Promise!
Melissa says
Kensington’s brown boots are so cute! My daughter lives in brown boots during the cooler months. Can you share where they’re from?
Mix and Match Mama says
They are from Nordstrom last fall. They are Steve Madden brand :).
Loni says
Shay,
You have the the most sweetest and most beautiful family! Seeing the pictures of Ashby and Madeley and their beautiful smiles just shows what kind of selfless and loving people you and Andrew are. Truly inspiring!
Furthermore, for anyone who says the Bachelor is a crazy show has never seen your blog. Sean, Catherine and their cute little Samuel is evidence that the Bachelor can be a success! Happy Fall!
Kati Matthews says
Yes. Herding cats. I typically say herding cattle… but your way of saying it seems much cuter and figure flattering. Precious family Shay! Way to go mama!
Allison says
Where is Andrew’s shirt from? I think I need that for my hubby!
Mix and Match Mama says
I’m going to guess J Crew :).
Beth says
Y’all are #madforplaid 🙂 Even Sean!
Jenny says
You all looked like you had the best time. I’ve never been to Texas and I’ve never been to an Oktoberfest… maybe I need to schedule both in at the same time one year. 🙂
Mary says
So random, but where is Lovie’s backpack (purse) from? She was wearing it in the pics at the airport when you brought Madeley home…
Mix and Match Mama says
Nordstrom!
Anna says
Where’s your studded bracelet from in the picture with Sean? Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s an oldie from Nordstrom :).
