It’s Friday! And not only is it Friday…it’s one of my favorite days of the year…the day I put my Christmas decorations out 🙂 . Every year, Andrew stays home and helps me drag the Christmas stuff down from the attic and we put it all up. ‘Tis the season!
I like to put my stuff up early for several reasons: 1. We don’t celebrate Thanksgiving at my house, so it’s not like it needs to be all Thanksgiving-y on Thanksgiving. 2. It’s so much work that I would like to enjoy it as long as I can. 3. I’m always thankful the days following Thanksgiving that it’s up and I don’t have to mess with it. 4. It just makes me so happy! If it were socially acceptable, I would leave it up year around. #truth
So, if you’re looking for me today, I’ll be the one covered in sparkle stringing twinkle lights.
I’m sharing my other favorite things from the week (because let’s face it, the Christmas decor is my absolute favorite!) and linking up with my girlfriends Narci, Andrea and Erika. Here we go…
Wait for it…are you ready? I’m flippin’ over…
…Nordstrom’s Ugly Christmas Sweaters are BACK!! Remember how much I loved the ones last year? Well they’re back in a whole new batch of tacky and delightfully fun patterns!
Last year, I wore mine more than I thought I would! It was always just something fun and festive to throw on whenever I was doing something Christmas-y. This year, I bought this one. (And side note: my jeans are 30% off!!)
I mean, so cute, right?!?! There are so many fun sweaters to pick from…but you better hurry because they started selling out quickly last year! ‘Tis the season!
Speaking of Christmas-y…
…I was reading a book in bed the other night and had my Christmas game going strong: PJ Pants, check. Christmas sheets, check. Fire going, check. And I was reading a really good book too. All my favorite things, check, check, check!
Okay, so this year, I’m going to try and watch some Hallmark Christmas movies because…it just sounds like something that will make me happy. Every year, I hear about them, but I never watch. Sooooo…I’m being proactive. I found the list of movies HERE and the move descriptions HERE. I mean, they’re on right now, so you can go ahead and start watching!! They are running reruns from years past too…so if there is one that I just can’t miss, please comment and tell me!!
I shared this favorite on Wednesday…the Old Navy scarves that will blow your mind! They come in 8 different patterns and I want them all. So cute, right?!?!
And speaking of cute (and comfy too!)…I keep wearing this fleece sweatshirt/sweater thingy that I love so much…
…here I am wearing it again (I’m leaving the gym). It’s so cozy and soft. Please don’t be surprised when you see me in it several times a week :). I bought it in heather gray, but it comes in 8 other colors too.
And finally, it might look like Christmas in my house later today, but it will smell like Thanksgiving! I’m sharing my favorite Totally Terrific Thanksgiving Treats with you…
…you can see them all HERE. I have so many easy and festive Thanksgiving recipes for your holiday!
Thank you all so much for the wonderful comments on Madeley’s adoption post yesterday. You guys fill my little heart with so much love. Thank you.
Have a wonderful weekend friends! See you Monday!
Gina says
The Christmas Card is one of my favorite Hallmark Christmas movies. It’s about 10 years old, I think but the scenery is beautiful and it’s really sweet. I watch it every time it’s on!
Leslie Z. says
I couldn’t agree more about the Christmas decor! I realized that if I waited until after Thanksgiving to put my Christmas stuff up, I would have fall decorations up for two months and Christmas decorations for only one month. I can’t have that! They’re going up this weekend and I couldn’t be more excited about it! Did you go to Starbucks yesterday? The RED CUPS are out! Take a look at my post and you’ll see all the amazing patterns! Have a great weekend! 🙂

Bernadine says
Just wondering, do you donate all your old clothes? I know the process on how you deal with “old stuff” for your kiddies, just wondering about your own?
Christmas is my favorite season too 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes! I absolutely do!
Katrina Wells says
Hallmark movies are my favorite!! Matchmaker Santa, Let It Snow, Christmas Under Wraps….my list could go on for days!! These are just a few then I keep on DVR and watch all year long.
Sheaffer says
That “ugly” Christmas sweater is SO DANG CUTE! Going over to check out the Thanksgiving treats now!
Erika slaughter says
Whoa! This post was all kinds of FESTIVE! You’re putting me in the Christmas mood, friend!
Andrea says
Yay have a wonderful day of decorating!
Annelise says
Let it Snow with Candace Cameron Bure is a hallmark MUST see!!! So light hearted and fun to watch!!
Crissy Talley says
The scarves are 50 percent of! I bought two! Now I just need to figure out how to wear it????
Kelly Thomas says
I haven’t watched anything but the Hallmark Channel since they started the Christmas movies!!!! I really like Christmas Incorporated it came out last year. You really can’t go wrong with any of the movies. This year I like The Mistletoe Promise it made me cry and laugh all at the same time. I get up an extra two hours just so I can watch one of the movies before I have to go to work!
Kacy says
Hallmark Christmas movies are a MUST!!! It’s our Saturday night ritual, to sit on the couch in pj’s with hot chocolate curled up in a blanket….Best .Nights. Ever! I love All I want for Christmas and Family for Christmas!
Emily says
I couldn’t help but notice in your bed/sheets picture that you may be making it wrong! Did you know you are supposed to have the finished side of your flat sheet touching the fitted sheet? This is so you can lay on both right sides of the sheet as that is the softest part, and so the right side is up when you turn down the bed. It’s hard to tell in your picture but looks as though you need turn your flat sheet over. Learned this a long time ago from a fine linen store so thought I’d share the tip. I love nothing more than a cozy bed and love that you have Christmas sheets!
Mix and Match Mama says
I do it on purpose :). It drives me crazy when the pattern on the top sheet faces down. I like my patterns to face the same direction. Does that make me weird? Probably! 🙂
Emily says
Whatever you like is right of course! I’ve just noticed a lot of people don’t know that tip even when making beds with solid sheets. I’d say making my bed is the main area where I have OCD tendencies!!!
Sanna says
Shay, I do this wrong also. I have to have patterns face the same direction ⬆️????
Emily has a total point though that that way, you lay on both sides of the sheets that are softest and that way when you turn down the bed , the right side is up. It makes sense. i am going to try to do it the right way for once.
Kelcie Hansberry says
What earring are you wearing when you are leaving the gym?! Also do you have more than one Apple Watch band?! I feel like I need them but I don’t know if I actually will change them!! Thanks 🙂 have a great day full of Christmas Spirit!
Mix and Match Mama says
They’re Kendra Scott. They’re super light little earrings.
Narci says

Mix and Match Mama says
We don’t celebrate it at my house :). This year, it’s at my aunt’s house.
Katie Williams says
I have a deep love for Hallmak movies all year long! But the Christmas ones are the best. Few faves – Fir Crazy, Christmas Under Wraps, and Let It Snow. They are all so good! And totally family appropriate so I could see Kensington watching them too. Enjoy!!!
Hayli says
I used to be “strict” about no Christmas decor up before December 1, now it’s moved to none up before Thanksgiving! But I won’t even tell you how long I leave it up! (Definitely too much work & too pretty to only be a month!)
Lisa N says
DO NOT MISS….Hallmark’s The Christmas Card and The Most Wonderful Time of the Year!! I keep those two along with Fallen Angel, Silver Bells, Season of Miracles and His or Hers Christmas DVR’d year round…just in case ….
I think the last one is on ABC Family. Hallmark movie channel carries many of the older ones also.
Karen says

I would love to be a fly on the wall in your home, I bet it’s breathtaking! ???? And I love the idea of getting your decorations up now. We are going to eat out for Thansgiving for the first time ever (@the Gaylord) so I might as well get my decorations up before!
Kimm says
I’ve had hallmark on non stop since Halloween. They have the best holiday movies. Let it snow is my favorite
Sarah says
I’ve been doing all things Christmas lately too! My tree went up yesterday and it’s been a steady stream of Hallmark movies in the evenings! “Hats Off to Christmas” and “Christmas Incorporated” are two of my favorites! 🙂
Kerri says
Hi, I am sure you have read, but wanted to make sure you are reading Elin Hilderbrands Christmas book! This year is the 3rd installment and I have loved it! I am sure you already knew about it, but since it’s a few of your favorite things, Elin, Nantucket, and Christmas, I just wanted to make sure!
Mix and Match Mama says
Already finished it!! It was so good!
Sandy Manning says
You must share titles please!
Jennifer says
You’ll love the Hallmark movies! During the week it’s all older shows, and then each Saturday night they premier a new one. I know there’s some type of Thanksgiving marathon coming up, too…a new Christmas movie each night that weekend! You’ll love how all the homes and towns are decorated for the holidays in each movie – so fun!
Lizzie @ This Happy Life says
I love Hallmark Christmas movies and have probably 50 on my DVR already but every free minute I have right now I’m binge watching Gilmore Girls! I need to finish so I can start on these movies! Happy decorating!!
Leah says
I am currently obsessed with Hallmark Christmas movies! They are on repeat at my house and my kids seem to enjoy them too. Definitely lighthearted and family friendly. A Christmas Detour is a good one!
Goodbye Bread and Cheese says
And those Old Navy scarves are currently 50% off!!
Lauren says
What size did you order in the ugly Christmas sweater? Cute!
Mix and Match Mama says
Small!
Angie says
I’m already filling up my DVR with the new Hallmark movies. Some are too cheesy and I don’t make it past the first 10 minutes, but most are really cute. An older favorite is The Christmas Ornament with Kellie Martin (love anything she’s in). It’s finally chilly in Atlanta and I can’t wait to get the fireplace going!
Eileen says
LOVE the cheesy Hallmark Christmas movies. Some of the ones we love are A Very Merry Mix-Up, Christmas Incorporated, Christmas Under Wraps, The Christmas Ornament, and The Mistle-Tones. The most cheesy, and the one we love the most around here is A Very Brady Christmas. If you haven’t seen it, you must. It is amazing. It is corny and cheesy and makes us laugh. It’s usually on in the middle of the night on Freeform so we DVR it.
Paula says
How do you not do Hallmark movies? You will love them!
Carrie says
I host Thanksgiving every year and my Thanksgiving decorations are kid made, almost exclusively. We honestly don’t have many people over (except for play dates) between Thanksgiving and Christmas. No one ever sees our Christmas decorations. My girls have off from school the day before Thanksgiving and I have thought about putting it all up so that everyone sees the decorations when they come for Thanksgiving! Of course my youngest turns 6 on Thanksgiving so we will be throwing birthday decor in there too!!
Reba Petersen says
Hallmark movies that are must sees: “Christmas Under Wraps,” “And Christmas Detour,” “Mrs. Miracle,” “A Season for Miracles,” “A Royal Christmas,” and “The Christmas Parade.” And if you can find it on DVD or randomly on TV, watch “The Christmas List.”
I’m loving the tacky sweater, and the sparkly sweatshirt!
Have so much fun decorating for the holidays!
Saundra says
“Season for Miracles” is my very favorite! I re-read the book and watch the movie every single year!!
Dustie Day says
Any Hallmark movie with Candace Cameron Bure is wonderful! I just love her. Happy decorating…..we did ours last weekend (inside) because we had time. So we are fall outside and Christmas inside right now ; ).
Laurie S says
Love Hallmark holiday movies! Did you know there are 2 Hallmark channels? The “regular” one and the other is called Hallmark Movies and Mysteries. Christmas movies are playing on both channels now. Some of my faves are A Royal Christmas, Ice Sculpture Christmas, Angels and Ornaments, The Christmas Shepherd, Nine Lives of Christmas. Some are too cheesy and I just watch bits, but some have me glued to the sofa. Enjoy!
Stephanie Zapata says
I don’t do Christmas decorations before Thanksgiving because I have Thanksgiving every year and I LOVE fall decorations on that day. However, I leave my Christmas decorations up until the Russian Christmas is over to honor my son’s Russian heritage (and so I can have them up longer????) so I get an extra 2 weeks on the back end of the Christmas season.
Jessica says
I love hallmark channel Christmas movies! I keep the channel going every day once the movies start. They’re just such feel good shows, everyone is happy and nice to each other, and someone always falls in love. ???? I don’t put Christmas decor up until after thanksgiving because we have thanksgiving lunch over here at my house, but you better believe the decor goes up RIGHT after the dishes are cleared from the table! It’s going to be such a sweet Christmas for your family with new little Madeley to celebrate. ????
Brinkley Brown says
So the all day, all night hallmark movies are on both the hallmark channel, and the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries Channel…so you’ll find you happy lovey dovey movies on hallmark, and some more sentimental ones on the Movies & Mysteries. I highly suggest both channels! I’ve had it on about 24/7 since it started. As for Hallmark, I enjoy them all and really don’t love one over the other. But on Mystery channel, i’d highly suggest the following if you can find them: Christmas with Holly, November Christmas, The Christmas Card, The Christmas Ornament, and finally the Christmas Blessing (which is really a follow up to The Christmas Shoes – yes, from the tear jerker song by Newsong). I don’t see where the Christmas Shoes is going to be on this year, but hopefully they will play it at sometime. I will totally warn you though, the one’s they are playing on Movies & Mysteries are some tear jerkers, but totally worth it! Happy Christmas Movie Watching!!!
Jordan Kuban says
Crown for Christmas is a must! One of my all-time favorites!
Tracy Doubts says
Shay, I hope like in years past you will show us pictures of your beautiful home all decorated for Christmas! So much fun to see.
Alicia says
I love hallmark movie. Super sappy and the title usually tells you the entire plot line…but still so fun to watch. I watched one Wednesday night because I needed a break from real life and I was thankful that hallmark had their movies on. It was a much needed distraction.
Kelly says
In agreement with everyone else, the Hallmark movies are wonderful! And yes, you must check out the Hallmark mystery channel too, these are usually the older classic Hallmark movies. We watch them almost every night from Halloween until Christmas! We host Thanksgiving so no Christmas decor until after. I make an exception for a pencil tree in the dining room with only lights, no ornaments, because I serve dessert in there and I think it makes it extra special. But the day after Thanksgiving, the Christmas decor game is on! Speaking of, can’t wait to see yours:). Have a fun day today!
Debbie says
The Christmas Card is my all time favorite, even my husband will admit to liking it. I love everything Christmas, have fun today.

You haven’t lived until you have wrapped Christmas presents while watching a Hallmark Christmas movie with a holiday candle burning. ABC family Christmas movies are not to be missed as well. Happy watching!
Katherine says
Those Old Navy scarves will definitely be on my shopping list this weekend – thanks for sharing!! I love sharing Friday Favorites because it makes me reflect on the great things that happened that week instead of the bad 🙂 Hope you have a great weekend!
Amber says
Sometimes I get sucked into a hallmark movie black hole. I turn them on for background noise and before I know it I’ve been watching them for 6 hours. My favorites are merry matrimony, the Christmas parade, snow bride, any of the royal ones, I really just love them all. With all of the bad in the world sometimes it’s nice watch a feel good movie and know that it will have a happy ending.
Jonnette says
Love it! Will be getting our Christmas tree and decorations up this weekend too!!!
Karen says
You’re getting me in the mood to decorate now! I didn’t see this movie mentioned but trust me when I say this one is a MUST WATCH. Last year for some reason Hallmark didn’t show it, and since it’s now a tradition for my husband and I to watch this movie at Christmas, we had to search and found it on Amazon Prime. And strangely it’s had different names over the years, it was originally called Come Dance with Me but this year it’s on Hallmark again but it’s now called “Christmas Dance”. I want to go watch it now!!!!!!!!!
Jodi Shah says
Love the cozy sweater! What size are you wearing?
Mix and Match Mama says
I believe the fleece sweater is an xsmall!
Sara says
My Christmas stuff is going up this weekend too! We are traveling for Thanksgiving, so I also want mine to all be up when we come home. As for sheets, I have a pair of flannel sheets from Target and I LOVE them! Mine have deer on them in all different prints! They don’t have my print this year, but they have several others and the price is way more affordable then those from Pottery Barn! http://www.target.com/p/evergreen-holiday-flannel-sheet-set/-/A-50699376?lnk=rec|pdpipadh1|related_prods_vv|pdpipadh1|50699376|0

I’m with you… We have friends coming over tonight and tomorrow night, but Sunday our Christmas decor is going up!
And I love that the Hallmark channel movies are pretty PG… My 10 yo LOVES to watch them with me! 🙂
Ruth says
A very Merry mix up is my favorite and the holiday engagement is funny. Happy decorating!
Sara says
I just went to the old navy site and was having difficulty completing the transaction. I called their 800 number and for my trouble I got an additional 10% off! Can’t beat that!
Hallmark Christmas movies are pretty wonderful! Now, they tend to be a tad cheesy, but I enjoy it and cringe only slightly. My favorites: The Christmas Card, A Boyfriend for Christmas, A Bride for Christmas (similar to Runaway Bride!), Nine Lives of Christmas, One Starry Christmas, Angels Sing (Harry Connick Jr & Connie Britton = must watch!), Just in Time for Christmas, Once Upon a Holiday (similar to Roman Holiday!), Window Wonderland, The Thanksgiving House, 12 Gifts of Christmas, On the Twelfth Day of Christmas, and The Christmas Ornament. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have!
Julianna says
I saw the coolest outdoor book sale on Queen’s Walk in London this morning… That would be one of your favorites for sure!
Karen says
Shay, I’m playing catch up on the blog, so I just read yesterday’s and today’s!! The miracle of Madeley being illness-free made me tear up!! Thank you for sharing that! Praising God with you!!!
Melissa says
I am not a huge Hallmark fan, but I watch Christmas With Holly every year. It just makes me happy.
Gentry says
I am obsessed with Hallmark’s Christmas movies!! They are totally cheeseball but I love them so!! Every single one is a winner 🙂
Audrey says
Hallmark Christmas movies make life worth living.
Kay Greivenkamp says
I have you beat. Christmas went up last weekend and will stay up until mid January. I love my house decorated for Christmas and it takes me days to do so I really want want to enjoy it. I also started watching hallmark channel movies this year….much better than what is on the networks. On a different subject, I wrote to you last spring about your Disney cruise and whether you thought it would be weird if my college age daughter and I would enjoy it. We went in May on a 4-day Bahamas cruise after spending 3 days at WDW. We had the best time!!! Thanks for recommending and we look forward to our next Disney cruise!
erika says
Can you do a post on your process for organizing your closet for each season? I see in one photo that you already have scarves & boots all neatly organized. Do you buy all new sheets, pajamas, boots, scarves every season or do you zip up/store them in your garage? What’s the process? Any advice would help me tremendously!
Brenna says
Hallmark movies are the best! “A Christmas Wish” and “Matchmaker Santa” are two of my favorites.
Holly Hopkins says
Love the Old Navy Scarfs!!! I bought a lumberjack plaid vest from there and am obsessed with it lately it has a gold zipper i just love details like that. Old Navy is bringing it lately!
Heather S says
I don’t know if it’s a new workout routine or food regimen or what but your body has been looking amazing lately! You’re an inspiration for me to get myself back in shape after a miscarriage, Instead of just sitting around and feeling sorry for myself…. looking good mama!
Kendra says
Oh I just love that your decorating for Christmas already! I can’t wait to see! All my Christmas stuff is in storage since we just sold our house and we are living in a motorhome until we can land a job to move, so i am going to enjoy your Christmas decor and pray i can be in a house come Christmas this year! Hugs
Karen Tucci says
I am already loving the Hallmark Channel Christmas movies this year, so glad they decided to bring them out earlier this year. Loving your
new grey sweatshirt/sweater!!
Abby R. says
As someone with a Christmas birthday, and the middle name Noel, I simply adore the holiday season!! I am in love with the movie The Holiday! Although it isn’t a Hallmark, I figured I would add it to this fabulous list of suggestions! Let the holidays begin!! Xoxox

Shay!! I love your website!! Seriously you’re an inspiration to mothers!! Love those jeans! How do they run?! More like leggings? What size do you normally get?! Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
I think they run completely true to size!
Kelsey says
Hi Shay! How do you like the pottery barn flannel sheets? How to they hold up? Do they pill? Looking for a new flannel set this year!
Mix and Match Mama says
They are fantastic! Wash after wash, they hold up beautifully!
Sonya says
I am addicted to the Hallmark Christmas movies and this year I got my SIL’s watching with me. In fact we have a scorecard that we are filling out just for fun. My favorites are Boyfriend for Christmas, Fir Crazy, Snow Bride, Naughty or Nice, Ice Sculpture Christmas, A Perfect Christmas…I could go on and on. There are only a handful that I’m not crazy about.
Jean Kronzer says
We watch the Hallmark movies all year! They have Valentines ones…then June Brides…Autumn ones…..the Christmas ones are our FAVORITE. My husband loves them too! Our favorites are “Hitched for the Holidays!”…”Holidays in Handcuffs” …and the ones with “Mrs.Miracle” and” Mr. Miracle” (Debbie Macomber stories) are so sweet and heart warming.
Hallmark filmed one in the little college town 2 of my kids went to . They filmed it last January and my son was able to go watch them film a bit! They have a second channel called “Murders and Mysteries?” but we can’t get it with our tv provider. And of course…….that movie “Love Always, Santa” is on that second channel.
You can’t go wrong with any Hallmark movie! Enjoy!
Sarah says
That gray sweater looks soooo cozy and cute but I’m not sure I’m committed to hand washing. Is it worth it??
Angela Ellingson says
Well this post just made me so happy! You are my soul sister! I cannot get over that Christmas sweater. LOVE it! Christmas movies are my absolute favorite kind of movie. I cannot wait to pull my own Christmas decoration out. And being cozy reading a good book by the fireplace = heaven.
Jordyn G. says
I recommend Christmas With Holly! It is a favorite in my house that we watch each year!! 🙂
Chelsea says
I read The Mistletoe Promise last year by Richard Paul Evans. It is a short read and heart warming! This year it came out as a Hallmark movie. It was so cute! I think you would enjoy it.
Whitney Pegram says
A couple things here … that sweater is THE best!! And give me all the Hallmark Christmas movies. There’s not one I don’t like 🙂 but all the ones with Candace Cameron Bure are SO good! I will say, most are predictable but who cares?!? Not me ;). It’s the season!
Gina S. says
The Christmas Card-an older one and a more recent one-Christmas with Holly(hallmark hall of fame)????Love these!
Sanna says
I really liked Holiday Engagement with Bonnie Somerville (who played Mona in Friends just as a reference) and Shelley Long. It’s a movie from 2011, but Hallmark is showing it at the earliest this coming Monday around noon, I believe. I am sure it will be repeated after that again also.
Lisa Selan says
Like you, I’m a mom, but mine are in the process of leaving the nest and one getting married in June. One of the highlights of a quiet Sunday afternoon is reading your blog:-). It always always puts a smile on my face. I’m inspired in my home, kitchen and prayer life just by reading. Thank you for sharing the journey of bringing Madely and Ashby into your home. I continue to pray for smooth transitions and also for Ashby and all her medical needs. Have a blessed Sunday Shay!
GiGi Turner says
Shay I’m so glad you mentioned Hallmark movies again. I watched One Starry Christmas (probably my favorite) last week, and the female star makes me think of you. Although I have never met you, from the pictures and tv apprearances I’ve seen you in, you resemble each other quite a bit in my eyes. Hope you will get a chance to watch it and see for yourself. I never seem to get to watch all of the Hallmark movies, but somehow seem to see the same ones several times during the season. They also have a week or so in July that they play the Christmas movies all day long on their two channels (Christmas in July). Some of the ones I like best are the movies Candace Cameron Bure is in and another favorite is A Crown For Christmas, but gosh, they have so many good ones. I would love to see your home all decorated for Christmas and can’t wait to hear about and see pictures of Madeley’s response!
Carrissa says
I just love all your clothes and outfits you post. If your ever looking to get rid of things, Ill be happy to take hammy downs 😉
Lauren Kress says
Hey Shay, quick question – what size did you get in the sweater?? I’m torn between an XS and S 🙂
Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
I bought the 4 US.
