Life Lately.


Well, it’s a post about nothing.

I was going to upload a bunch of pictures of life lately…and apparently, I haven’t taken any.  Hmmmm…is it because I’ve been too busy being an awesome parent and staying away from my phone or…because instead of taking pictures, I’ve been using my phone to finish One Tree Hill?  Hmmmmm?????

Happy Thursday!

My girls all wanted to run errands with me.  I pray that when they’re older, they still do.  Love these three so much!

New family pictures for the year means new canvases on my wall.  I love having the fourth kiddo on there!!!

I would like to title this “four type-A people building a gingerbread house”.  There were so many micro-managers on the project! 😉

Christmas Eve Eve with my people.  And listen…five out of six with their eyes open is sometimes as good as we get around here.

And then on New Year’s Eve, we went and saw Sing together.  It was so cute!!  We all loved it!

And we started the year with a new do 🙂 .  She wanted to wear a bow like her big sisters.

On Tuesday, I got dressed and sent my mom this picture.  She bought me this sweater for Christmas and I love it!  It’s super, super soft and has the cutest buttons up the back.  I wanted her to see how cute it was but then after wearing it all day (and receiving two compliments from people about it), I thought you’d want to see it too.  Bonus, it’s 40% off now and comes in two color combos.  I like seriously adore it.  Thanks mom :)>.

And speaking of sweaters…

…even though you can barely see it in these pics from NYC, I had several people ask me where I bought this cream one.  You can find it HERE.  (It’s in pink too.)  I found it true to size but I do always wear a cami underneath it (my favorite one is HERE) because of the v-neck.  I’ve worn it now like 6 times because it’s so soft !!  (And the scarf is from J. Crew.)

So, here’s the deal with this picture: on Monday, we slept on our new mattress for the first time and Andrew loved it while I did not.  In lieu of our usual pillow top, we bought a Tempur-Pedic.  They say to give it a month or so and then you’ll fall completely in love and not go back.  So, I asked my friends on Instagram about that and the last time I checked, there were over 600 comments about mattresses :).  If you are in the market for a new mattress, head to my Instagram and read the comments.  I was blown away!  There is so much good info there!  We’re going to give our new mattress a little longer before we decide whether to keep it or return it.  What are your thoughts?  Do you have a Tempur-Pedic?  Did it take a while for you to fall in love too???

    I love my Tempur-Pedic. I have the cloud elite and fell in love with it the first night I slept in it. My only complaint is that I get hot! I just sleep with an extra fan.

    My sister has one too and hates hers. She says it hurts her back but I don’t seem to have those problems.

    We have a Tempur-Pedic and what people say is true–you have to give it a while! The salesperson actually told us to leave it on the floor for a while and walk all over it for about 2 days before putting it on your bed (you can let your kids do it!!). She said that’s what they do in the mattress stores before they put those mattresses out for people to test. That helped big time! And it’s gotten softer over time. I’ll never go back to anything else!

    Hi Shay, My husband and I had pillow top but it needed replacing….we bought temperpedic and did the trial….NG….kept it for 2 weeks with no sleep! we now have the Sleep Number and i just said to my husband last night how much I love our bed!! we’ve had it for one year. Highly recommend!!

    So 2 things about the Tempurpedic- one is you may need a different pillow. I always had a standard pillow with pillowtop mattresses, but apparently it creates a weird angle for your neck on memory foam. Maybe try a memory foam pillow to see if that helps? Also, you may just not like it 🙂 We had one for about 3 years (I woke up with a sore back the whole time) and just went back to a pillowtop hybrid (thank you stomach bug and kids who gravitate to mom and dad’s bed when they get sick :0)

    It took some time for me to love our tempurpedic, but now I can’t imagine sleeping on anything else. The salesperson suggested letting the kids jump on it for the first little while to break it in.

    We bought a Tempur-Pedic in 2012. I hated it for about 4 years. Then last year we remembered that it was adjustable (ummm, duh, we paid extra for that) so we started messing with the head height & foot height until we found a setting that was perfect. Now I love it. So if you got an adjustable mattress, do, do, do adjust it!

    We bought a temperpedic two years ago. We had it for a month. We didn’t like it at all.We ended up exchanging it and we are soooo much happier now. We ended up with a Stearns and Foster Hybrid April Rose Plush Mattress.

    We’ve had a tempur-pedic mattress for about 2 years and my husband has hated it from day one. He says it hurts his back and makes him hot. I love it! But I think I’m going to have to give it up. As long as I have my tempur-pedic pillow, though, I’ll be ok!

    We have a Tempur-Pedic and I felt the same way you do when we got ours. For about a week I felt as if I had been ran over by a truck…everything hurt when I got up of a morning. My husband loved it from day one, no issues. However, it took me about a week and half to two weeks to get used to it. Now, I love our bed. My BFF and her husband got one as well – she had the same experience I did. They almost returned theirs but held off – now they are so glad they kept it. They love it.

    We have had a tempur-pedic for about 5 years and I still hate it. 🙂 My husband loves it though. I would prob do sleep number next time.

    We got a Tempurpedic when I was pregnant with our 2nd child.. I didn’t love it, but thought maybe after he was born and I wasn’t so uncomfortable it would be different. Nope! I eventually got used to it, but still napped on the pillowtop in the guest room when I could 😉

    We bought a temper-pedic in 2013 with a similar initial response. I hated it and thought it was WAY too hard and hot. My husband loved it. A friend suggested to “break it in” by jumping on it. I’m sure the kids would love helping with that! After about a month, it was perfect and I honestly can’t imagine sleeping on anything else. When we stay in hotels or with my parents, we can’t wait to get back home to our bed.

    We just recently purchased a Tempur-pedic as well and LOVE IT. I think the hardest decision is knowing which one to buy that fits your needs. We were very overwhelmed with this process! We wanted support since our pillow-top was super soft BUT we didn’t want to lay on a brick at night either. So, we decided on the Cloud Luxe Breeze – great support but still soft. And, it has the cooling gel so it helps to regulate your body temperture. It’s been great, we really love it and our quality of sleep has greatly improved.

    Well I don’t have an opinion on the Tempur-pedic, but I can tell you we got a Sleep Number several years ago and it’s been a huge disappointment 🙁 Madeley’s new do totally makes me think of the little girl in “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” 🙂

    Oh yeah, I knew there was one more thing I was going to comment on…One Tree Hill. My daughter is home on break from college and watching it AGAIN, so that means I’m watching it AGAIN. We are currently up to the season where Peyton’s “brother” shows up….WHAT A CREEP!!! Man-o-man is it easy to get sucked in and let your whole day be spent in Tree Hill 😉

    Your fam is precious! I was not a fan of sleep number despite being able to adjust firmness, however tempur pedic has that too & we love it. (Ps we both side/stomach sleep) My parents were disappointed with their hybrid so we skipped that one too (after me sleeping on it for a week at their house!;) I only wish I would have gotten the base adjustable too so I can sit up in bed without propping with pillows! Ha #oldlady

    Funny story about One Tree Hill…my daughter has been binge watching it since Thanksgiving and just finished it before school started up again this past Tuesday…during winter break, we went to the movies (we live in Thousand Oaks, CA) and she spotted Barbara Alyn Woods who plays “Deb” in the restroom. Turns out, she was sitting right next to us in our row! After the movie, my daughter asked her for a photo. She was so sweet, so beautiful, and seemed tickled to be recognized. She also couldn’t believe my girl blasted through 9 seasons so quickly. Neither could I!

    So I love canvases and have a few but I’ve been thinking lately about changing them out but what do you do with your old canvases? They aren’t like pictures that you can place in a picture box when you change it out of the frame. I’m trying to be mindful of what I bring in and decorate the house with and in the end I don’t want it to be something that ends up in closet somewhere.

    Hi Shay! Love your blog! My husband and I got a Tempur-Pedic Rhapsody Breeze. Our salesperson told us to have our kids walk on the mattress were our shoulders and hips would be. We did that and it still took 2 weeks to break it in and now I LOVE it! I will never go back to a pillow top. My sister has a sleep number and they love it. So maybe that can be an option.

    My husband loved our temper-pedic cloud from day one. It took me a month to get used to it. I’ve had back surgery and this is the only bed that I wake up free of any stiffness or pain. We’ve had our bed for six years and feel it is well worth it!

    Stick with the mattress! The first night, I woke up and felt terrible but after a few nights, I don’t even notice the memory foam any more and sleep great. It’s definitely worth it!

    We have a tempur-pedic mattress as well. My husband also loved it immeadiatley, while it took me several weeks to get used to. You WILL fall in love and wil then hate hotel mattresses from now on. Give it some time .

    Hey shay! Love your blog! You and your family are so beautiful! Just wanted to share a tip about the mattress. We too thought our temper pedic was to firm even after a few months so I bought a plush mattress topper to go on top of it. Made it much more comfortable. It’s been a couple years so I can’t remember what kind I got but I believe I got it off of amazon. It’s more comfortable but I would not buy another temper pedic! not worth the money! And I agree with what someone else said about playing with different pillows. I just ordered the My Pillow and hope I love it! Happy new year and sweet dreams 🙂

    We have had a tempur-pedic for about 3 years and absolutely love it! It does take a few weeks to soften up but I will never go back and it has spoiled me forever, now hotel beds are uncomfortable.

    We got used to our Tempur Pedic quickly and LOVED it…and then I hit that stage of life where being warm isn’t fun anymore. Seriously, we waited a LONG time to splurge on our mattress, but less than 2 years after getting it I now dislike it a lot. Talk about serious hot flashes! BUT…you have a long way to go and if you can get used to the support of such a firm mattress, you’ll get your money’s worth long before you’re my age!

    So we have the Tempur-Cloud Elite. It took a little over a month and a half to fully break it in. Most of their reps suggest 90 days and it took us about half that. We often prescribe them to patients with sever back issues. I can think of one person in all the years of my husbands practice that has returned theirs. Tempurpedic returned the mattress and frame for a full refund-it was over a year after purchase. They really stand behind their product! I won’t use any other brand after that.

    One Tree Hill is an obsession of mine too!
    Also-I attempted to follow an old book recommendation of yours-I’ve been on the hunt for faith-centered books and remembered an older post of yours that had some listed. I got Bringing Up Girls and Raising a Princess. I also looked for A Case for Christ/Faith and found that Lee Strobel has a newer one out–A Case for Grace. So far I’ve only read two chapters but it is AMAZING! You should add it to your to-read list! If you have any other recommendations that you haven’t posted yet, I would love to hear them!

    We slept on Tempur-pedic for three months…HATED IT. Felt like I was sleeping on a combo of apple sauce and foam rubber.
    Went back to my high end Foster-Stearns….LOVE IT.

    I’ve had a Tempur-Pedic for almost a year and I love it now, but I absolutely hated it at first. I even went back to the store and tried other mattresses, because I didn’t think I could keep it. They told me to give it more time, because it takes a while to break in. It took several months to get used to it, and I could never go back now!

    At first, I did not love our tempurpedic. It retained so much heat and I was burning up in my sleep (when I’m usually the person who is always cold!) We put a mattress cover on it to allow some air flow in between, and now, the only good sleep I ever get is on a tempurpedic! We put a tempurpedic mattress topper on our daughter’s bed, and she loves it and so do family who visit during the holidays and stay the night in her room.

    We just got the Temperpedic about a month ago. Our sales person said to walk on it in our socks the first few days to break it in. We did and now we love it! I sometimes feel colder on it so I use an extra blanket, but my husband loves the cool feel to the mattress. After you lay on it for a few minutes it adjusts to your body temperature. Give it more time, and walk on it in your socks! Hope you end up liking it!

    Yes it will take a few weeks to get used to…..we’ve decided in our house we will NEVER own anything else. It’s so nice not to feel movement transfer ~ especially when kiddos crash your bed occasionally. The only down side we’ve found is ~ it’s hard to sleep away from home…..lol
