Over the weekend, Andrew and I headed to Park City, UT with the Slaughters for some much needed rest and relaxation. We had the BEST time and cannot wait to go back. Here are some thoughts as you read today’s post:
1: There are a lot of selfies.
2: And a lot of pictures of snow.
3: There might even be a picture of a moose.
4: I think I’m wearing makeup in like three of the pictures.
5: There is a fantastic book mentioned somewhere in the middle of the post.
6: Some of the things I wore are available, so I made sure to link to them if they were (because I know some of you want to know).
7: I’m ready to move to Utah.
8: Like today.
Here we are at the Salt Lake City airport…this picture was taken somewhere around 1:30 AM. Yes, AM. We took a very late flight so that the kids would be ready for bed before we left…so, we didn’t end up at our hotel until after 2:00. But it was worth it 🙂 .
The next morning, I woke up and looked out the window of our hotel and it was GORGEOUS! The night before had been such a blur that I didn’t even notice the beautiful view. We stayed at the Hotel Park City, and we all loved it! It was close to Main Street and close to skiing, they had an incredible spa and because it wasn’t ski in/ski out, it wasn’t super crowded.
The guys headed out to ski/snow board immediately, so Erika and I ordered room service and hung out in my room until it was time to visit the spa. This omelet had goat cheese in it…and we all know that I will do anything for goat cheese.
While we were sitting there, we looked out the window and spotted moose just roaming around. (I mean…I was told they were moose…but they could have been something else…the natives of Utah all said moose.)
So, that’s something you don’t see every day out the window in North Texas 🙂 .
Here I am leaving the spa. I was in such bliss before that I didn’t take a pic…but here I am leaving. We had made spa appointments at our hotel in advance. On this day, I had some sort of full body scrub and massage with a wrap. The boys skied and we spa-ed : ).
After the spa, we had lunch (the view was so nice!) and then headed back to our rooms to read and rest (because we were going off of only about 5 hours of sleep).
Oh Utah, you are so pretty!
That night, we got dressed and headed to dinner on Main Street. We stopped first for appetizers at No Name Saloon and it was so festive! (PS: my super fun furry coat can be found HERE.)
See how fun it is??? Our appetizers were so good too!
After that, we walked over to Prime and had dinner. We made all of our dinner reservations in advance too. Prime is a steak place on Main and it did not disappoint!
We love a good steak supper : ). (And my ruffled sleeveless sweater can be found HERE .)
The next morning, Erika and I hit up Main Street for shopping and lunch. It was cooooold and so much fun!
Friends, I miss my bed so much. Not my new bed…my old bed. I think this trip confirmed in our hearts the truth…we hate our Tempur-Pedic and will be returning it. I know, I know…we’ve already discussed this topic…and as of today, I’m going to have to side with the group that did not enjoy their Tempur-Pedics and returned them. We knew we didn’t love it before our trip, but after the first night on the hotel mattress, it totally confirmed in our hearts how much we dislike our bed at home. It’s just way too hard…and a mattress is a huge investment, so we want to love it. It’s going back. Boo. I really wanted to love it.
We stopped for lunch at a bistro on Main Street. Such a lovely day 🙂 . (And psssssst: that’s that sweater from Loft I love so much!)
Off to shop some more! I didn’t buy anything for myself, but I found something for my mom and the kiddos.
We got back to the hotel and sat in the lobby by the fire and read. Oh my word…I read almost three books on this trip and this one was SO GOOD! I can’t wait until my next book review!
Erika and I got so hungry around 4:00 and our dinner reservations weren’t until 8:30…so, we split an order of steak sliders. Yum!
Here we are heading to dinner!
We stopped and had a little appetizer at a little place off of Main and then had dinner at Grappa.
Tavern for appetizers, Grappa for dinner. A great combination! (And you can’t really see my tassel earrings that well but I love them! I bought rose gold but they come in 11 different fun colors.)
The next morning, we were back at the spa for round two! I had a hot stone massage and a facial.
This time after the spa, we met the boys at the base of the mountain for lunch.
Tab on skis, Andrew there the snow board.
They had the best time. I think Andrew Shull would live on a snow board if I would let him.
Love these people so much!!!
And then we wrapped up our day with appetizers here and then dinner at Grub Steakhouse.
Oh my goodness, such a great time. Andrew and I feel so blessed to have friends like the Slaughters that we can travel with. We absolutely loved Park City, Utah and will most definitely be back. Another great weekend in the books! (And Erika is also blogging about our trip today. You can read it HERE.) See you tomorrow!

How wonderful of a trip!! You just made me even more excited for your book review this month! I read A Woman in Cabin 10 this month too and it was SO GOOD!! If you liked that one, go ahead and buy her other book In a Dark Dark Wood for next month. It’s just as good!
Erika Slaughter says
GOOD GOOD TIMES!! I mean any trip where my toughest question is “should we go shopping or head to the spa” is my kind of trip! I heard the grandparents say they were all good to babysit again soon. I’m thinking next month? 😉 We love you guys!
Anna says
What a great trip! And I definitely think you won by spa-ing versus skiing! Do you remember where your black athletic leggings are from? They actually look structured!
Mix and Match Mama says
They’re from Athleta!!
Jess says
Are they the tight or actual leggings? Never ordered leggings from them, I’m assuming they must be good quality?
Mix and Match Mama says
They’re like yoga pants. They’re amazing and wash and dry SO WELL time after time!
Jenny L says
What a cozy post…I just wanted to be there! Loved all the pics. Glad y’all got to go!!!
Narci says
Yep, this confirms why I love you girls so much! A trip that involves lot of cute layers, spa time, shopping, and great food! Yes ma’am!! Sounds like you girls had so much fun!!! Everything looked amazing!
Aja says
Its so nice to have travel buddies. We’ve been very blessed with lots of different friends we like to travel with. Maybe we’re just really fun. ?
I liked In A Dark Dark Wood so much better than The Woman in Cabin 10, so definitely go for that one next!
Sheaffer Sims says
Spa, Shopping, and lots of eating…my kind of trip!
Lesley McFarland says
What a fun and beautiful trip!! How does Park City rate with your trip you guys took a few years ago to Breck. I absolutely love the mountains and move there tomorrow.
Mix and Match Mama says
The mountains in Colorado seem bigger, but the other than that, they’re equally as beautiful. I love both!
Amanda R says
The mountains in Colorado ARE bigger. However, they are much more crowded as well. We just moved to Park City from Boulder, CO and could not love it more. People have a lot of misconceptions about Utah, and I’m glad. The food here is great, the drinks are great, the people are great. Plus, the 30 minute drive from SLC to Park City or another mountain is infinitely better than the 2+ hours from Denver!
Emily says
Looks like a fun trip! Sorry you hate your bed but at least you know! I love a softer bed and have a tempurpedic I think is just as soft as my old pillow top. Maybe you just got the wrong model?? I found with our last pillow top it started slumping in the middle within a year and I hate nothing more than a bed I have to sleep on with a slope. I love that our tempurpedic hasn’t changed and we can’t feel each other tossing and turning either. To each their own but I hope you find your goldilocks bed as I can’t imagine anything worse than an uncomfortable one!!
Curious what kind of pillows you like as I can’t seem to find a pillow that’s just right.
Mix and Match Mama says
Ironically, we switched to the Tempur-Pedic pillows too but we like those!
Elyse says
Which Tempur-Pedic pillow did you end up liking?
Mix and Match Mama says
The softest one they had. I’m sure it has a name…but I just remember thinking I liked the softest choice.
Sarah says
You and Erika look like sisters!! I’m from AZ but have never been to Utah. I’ll need to go (we live in NC now) – it looks absolutely gorgeous!! My husband’s been there and said it’s amazing 🙂
Also – totally loving your sweaters! Thanks for sharing all the details!

My son is going to be just like Andrew. He currently skis rather than snow board. But, Colorado is his favorite trip. He would give up every other vacation ever if we went out West to ski every year. My girls love it too, but my son has a great love. And, it is a fabulous time to spend with the kids.
Alex says
Ya’ll made it to some great places while you were in Park City! Next time you need to go to High West!
Whitney Pegram says
Looks like SO much fun!!
Sharon says
Did you ski or snow board at all? Looks like an amazing place to take in the slopes…
Will need to add to my list of places to go!
Mix and Match Mama says
Nope. The girls relaxed the whole time :).
Jennifer says
Looks like an amazing trip!
Check out Saavy Rest mattresses. They are name from natural latex. Super comfortable.
Shannon Dobbs says
The Woman in Cabin Ten was so good! I just finished it last week and loved it! Glad you got to read it too!
Kelly says
Fun times! I’ve been to Utah, but only for work. Your trip seems 10x more fun! Who watched the kiddos? How did this trip affect cocooning/nesting with Miss M?
Mix and Match Mama says
It was amazing there! My parents kept all four kiddos and they all did fantastic!
Debbie K. says
Beautiful scenery pictures and don’t laugh, but I think you and Erica could just about pass for sisters! Please keep us up to date on a mattress purchase. I sent ours back because it was so hard. My back hurt so bad every morning I told the salesperson I would rather go through 29 hours of drug free labor again! Ha! But now we are each sleeping on a couch because I just don’t know which way to go for a mattress.
Ashley says
Looks like an awesome trip!! Spa…. hello jealous!
Sucks about your mattress… BUT…. have you heard about the Casper mattress? It is AMAZING. They only sell one type of mattress (because it is awesome) but you should go online and read the reviews. It is rated really high on practically every review site. They let you try it for 100 days and you could return for free if you dont like it so it might be worth a shot.
No…. I dont work for Casper. Just a passionate bed sleeper. 🙂
Megan says
This looks like such a fun trip! We had bed buyers remorse once. Sent that puppy back. Best decision ever!

Laci says
This trip looks so dreamy!!! Perfect couples trip. Utah is beautiful!
Anna G says
Definitely sounds like you got some R&R for sure! I remember reading one of your posts and you mentioned that you get sick in cars, planes, etc. What do you take to help with the sickness and also, if you haven’t done a post on it yet, maybe do one on what Andrew packs for trips! I could use the help for my guy!
Mix and Match Mama says
I haven’t found anything that works for me (even the prescription stuff), so I basically just suffer :).
Kristin says
Such a perfect trip!! Dying to get out to Utah one of these days. We are headed to Breck with our besties for our first kid free trip in a couple years. Ah can’t wait! Can you let me know or link up to where to got your cute beanies? I need some cute ones for Colorado and have the hardest time finding them here in TX. All of yours and Erika’s were so cute!
Mix and Match Mama says
J Crew!!
Kelly says
Our family skis in Park City (Deer Valley) every other year and we love it! We always eat at Grub Steakhouse on our 1st night! We are doing the opposite of you, we leave Tennessee at 6:00 which means we have to be at the airport in the middle of the night! But we are in Park City by noon which is great and we can get settled before the family skis the next dAy!
heidi says
Park City is one of my most fav places. I love Utah in general but park City is just beautiful and I don’t ski lol
Glad you had a great time!
Lindsay Dunagan says
Yes, those are Moose! Fun to see!! 🙂
What color of lipstick are you wearing on the first night to dinner? Thanks!
Annie B says
Looks like such a great trip! Where did you get your black puffer jacket? Is it belted? So cute!
Mix and Match Mama says
Thank you! Burberry!
Amanda @ Cupcake N Dreams says
I can’t believe you guys were just there! I was suppose to leave tomorrow for Park City, but due to a family member passing away I’m now leaving Monday :-(. I have No Name Saloon on my list too 🙂 These pictures have me excited!

I love the pictures of the snow! We don’t get snow like that in Mississippi! Spa-ing, eating, and reading sound like my kind of vacation! I was wondering if you could show how you pin your bangs back like that to get them “fluffed” up (for lack of a better word). I love how it always turns out on you when you do it! I would love to do something like that versus just slicked back when it is in a ponytail. I have been reading your blog for years and have always wondered how to do it! I know its not rocket science, but I’m no whiz when it comes to fixing my own hair! 🙂 Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh gosh…if my hair is up, it means it’s probably dirty. That’s the key ;).
Jenny says
Did you even ski?!
Mix and Match Mama says
Nope! I spa-ed ;).
Kelly says
Now, this is my kind of vacation! So. much. fun. You and Erica are adorable, thanks for sharing ;).
Danielle says
This trip looks so fun! My husband and I are going to Park City in a couple weeks and would love your food/spa/shopping recommendations! Also, where did Andrew snowboard? We’ve been looking around at a few of the mountains in the area and some are ski-only so I’m curious where he went and if he would recommend it. Thank you!
Julie says
Hi Danielle! I’m a Utah local and I would recommend boarding at Park City Resort or Canyons. They both have amazing terrain. Alta and Deer Creek are the two resorts that don’t allow snowboarding. Brighton is also a really fun resort, but much smaller than Canyons and Park City Reaort.
Megan says
OOOHHHHH I Loved that BOOK! Did you read In a dark, dark wood? I can’t remember if you did, but you most defiantly should!! Reese Witherspoon’s book club read it, it was nail biting.
Ryan says
Hey Shay! What shoes did you wear with the leggings and going out to eat? We leave in a few weeks to go skiing and I am struggling with what all to pack! Thanks
Nikki says
Where are your cute boots from? I need some for the snow!
Mix and Match Mama says
They’re Sorel from Nordstrom!
Stephanie says
So glad you enjoyed our beautiful Utah!! Park City is such a fun place to stay and ski!! Main Street is so much fun! You’ll have to come back with your kiddos in the summer! So much to do including the Olympic Park! And you can even see the moose in the summer time too!!
Tarah Sanford says
Do you like to ski or snowboard at all? My husband loves loves loves to snow ski, and I’ve decided to embrace that I just don’t love it, partially because I’m not very good or adventurous. We’ve been on one ski trip together that ended up just not being super fun for me. I love the idea of fully embracing not skiing and enjoying shopping, hot tubbing, reading and spa-ing. 🙂 That would be a win for us both!
Mix and Match Mama says
I haven’t tried! I know…I need to, right? I told Andrew that I would next time. We just don’t live close to skiing, so it has never been something I’ve tried.
Erin says
How pretty! I read the Girl in Cabin Ten as well this weekend, so so good! It would make a great movie! In a Dark Dark Wood is just as good as well, I may have liked it more!
Kayla B says
Love this trip! So lovely and snow covered. Thanks for sharing.
I know I’m late on the mattress conversation, but my husband and I purchased a mattress from Tuft and Needle this summer and is, literally, the best. We took a trip to South America over the new year, and *every single night* since we have been home, I can’t believe how comfortable our bed is. It’s like sleeping at a 5 start hotel every night. AND, if you don’t end up liking it, you just donate it to a thrift store and they give you a full refund. Pretty cool. Just another thought 😉
Angela Ellingson says
Oh my, this looks like such an amazing time! Park City is gorgeous!!!
Stacy says
It’s weird, I follow you on Bloglovin’, and for some reason today’s posts didn’t show up in my feed. I thought that was unusual so I clicked on “go to this blog”, and it still showed the last post as being “Smith is Seven.” Sheaffer’s didn’t show up today either. Just an FYI in case other people are having the same problem.
Aubrey says
My cousin lives in PC! It is so gorgeous there! She avoided the slopes on the holiday weekend and did this crazy riding thing on a bike with HUGE tires. Looked like a whole lot of fun. Glad you enjoyed your adults-only trip!
Meg says
So glad you loved Utah ?. Andrew should ski some of the resorts in Big or Little Cottonwood canyon next time…they are bigger than PC and literally some of the best ?. There are some great restaurants in the valley too!
Erin says
My book club just finished The Woman in Cabin 10. We’re wondering if her first book was even better…have you read it?
Utah looks gorgeous!!
lauren says
How do you read to so much, so fast? I love reading but I feel like it takes me so long to finish just one book!
Mix and Match Mama says
Ha! Well, I read every day, so that helps. Plus, trips reallly help! I pretty much read one book on the way, one while we were there and another on the flight home.
Francie says
I’ve been dying to go to Utah for some time now! Looks like you guys had a awesome time, just the encouragement I need to book my ticket and go. Thanks!
Sara Wolf says
This was fun to read! My family has lived in UT for just over 5 years now (before that, we lived in Austin, TX & Houston, TX). We love it here so much! We live south of Salt Lake City so we’re about a 45 min drive from Park City. My husband & I have a weekend getaway scheduled there in March and we’re looking forward to having a weekend very much like the one you just had! It’s a beautiful place to call Home so I’m glad you enjoyed your time here!
Sarah K says
Mattress wise – have you considered a hybrid? We have a Stearns & Foster “hybrid” mattress that has coils and memory foam – so the best of both worlds….it does have to be broken-in (takes about 30 days) – but it was comfortable from the very beginning, it just got even better. I like super firm and my husband likes super soft, and somehow this mattress is magically perfect for both of us!
One thing to note – my friend got the same mattress before us, and she figured out that she wasn’t heavy enough to break it in – so after her husband broke in his side, they switched and he broke in the other side as well.
Shannon says
I live about an hour north of Park City! Utah IS pretty beautiful! I love reading your blog. I am a momma to three little girls, its fun to find people who seem to love motherhood and its blessings as much as I do.
Lindsey says
Haha, Yes those are definitely moose! Looks like a fun trip! 🙂
Lindsay @ Lindsay's Sweet World says
What an amazing, relaxing trip! You must feel so rejuvenated! And you deserved every second, you busy lady!
Katrina says
I am 3/4 of the way done with The Woman in Cabin 10 and I can’t stop. I found myself getting up early to read before the kids get up. I just finished Cancel the Wedding based on your review and I LOVED it! It has been a good month for books!!
Christina L says
This trip looks like it was so much fun! I have never been one that would suggest to go some place snowy on a vacation, but I’m going to add this to my list! Do you know where Erika’s printed leggings are from? They are so cute! Thanks- Christina L.
Melissa says
Where if your black puffy coat from? Headed to NYC from Texas and need a great coat recommendation.
Lisa Klein says
What a fabulous trip!! I am not a snow person, but this could change my mind!
I love the sleeveless sweater!! On the website it looks see through. Did you find that? Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
I thought it looked see through online too! In person, I didn’t think so at all.
Nikki says
Oh my goodness! I have been reading your blog every day for the last few years but I’ve never commented. My husband and I were in Park city this weekend and stayed in the same resort as you (in a cottage) and even ate dinner at some of the same restaurants! It’s crazy that I didn’t see you! Isn’t Park city wonderful? I’m jealous that you saw a moose!
Erica says
Shay, I’m sure everyone has given you their two cents about a good mattress. But I just wanted to see if you have heard of Green Sleep? This brand makes organic rubber mattresses… sounds weird I know… but I’ve never been happier with a bed…EVER!!!!! The rubber is inside layers of cotton… so it looks like a real bed, not some crazy contraption. The best part: the firmness can be different on each side so if you like a harder/softer mattress than your husband, you can each have have your preferences met. They’re expensive, but so worth it as rubber does not wear like coils, springs, foam, etc.
Patricia says
You were in my neck of the woods! Your vacation is my reality 🙂 Glad you had a good time. I joke about being the only Baptist in Utah, but it’s never an issue. Everyone I meet in Utah is amazing and we have some of the best neighbors of anyplace we’ve ever lived. And there’s just nothing like a gorgeous blue western sky. So glad it was a great trip for you.
Kylee Edwards says
I’ve been excited for this post! I’m from Utah, but after getting married the hubs pulled me away to Seattle! 🙂
While you posted about this trip my family was on a ski trip in Sun Valley, Idaho. My in laws have a home there so we go quite often. We absolutely love it for both summer and winter! It’s a very small quaint little town! I think you’d love it! The Sun Valley Lodge is an amazing hotel! (With an awesome spa too!) let me know if you check it out
Britt Evans says
So fun!! We went on our honeymoon to Pak City, and even stayed at Hotel Park City! I loved walking down memory lane as I read your post! ?
Paige B says
What a fabulous trip! Glad you could get away for a little adult time.
Ok…. This is going to sound crazy. My husband came home one day & told me he was ordering us a new mattress…. ONLINE! No way. I wanted to visit 25 different stores testing them out. Ha! He did a ton of research & ordered away and I just KNEW I was going to hate it. First night was love at first sleep. Who would have thought a mattress could be so cozy. Definitely recommend Saatva Mattress. (We got Luxury Firm)
Jami Lee says
Have you heard of the purple mattress? My husband has been researching and is curious about it. It was recommended to him as work, he’s an OT and after 10+ years of lifting other people he’s staring to have neck and back problems.
Trip looks fantastic!
Lizzie @ This Happy Life says
Park City is on my bucket list! I want to go during Sundance one year, that would be amazing! Looks like such a fun trip!
Tricia says
Where’s your sweater from that you wore with your tassel earrings to dinner?
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s forever old…and I believe it’s from White House Black Market.
Alicia F says
Park City is beautiful anytime! I visited there with family this March and it was still stunning! The drive to and from Salt Lake is also beautiful! Did you spot the Banksy?!
Megan Butler says
Looooove this trip! Such a fun way to relax while the boys play! Next time austin wants to ski, I think I’ll tag along and spa!!
Holly Hopkins says
This sounds like a dream vaca. For two couples with kids! You did exactly what I would have wanted rest, good dining, shop, and read. I need to book a vaca. ASAP
Ann Marie says
yes, yes, yes!!! Spa over slopes any day! Give me those views and coffee- & I’m just fine! 🙂 Y’all looked to have a wonderful time!

Shay! My first time every posting on a blog. What a fun trip you had. We experienced similar bliss recently in Steamboat Springs, CO. What is the name of the darker pink lipstick you are wearing? It is soooo pretty! Thanks!

Shay, you guys go on so many fun trips! Have you ever been to Oregon? I think your family would LOVE it (especially the Portland metro area)! Let me know if you ever plan to come to the area, I would love to hook you up with accommodations or suggestions for places to visit! My husband goes to Austin for business occasionally and I hope to visit McKinney sometime with him (and the kids). Love your blog!

I have been to Oregon! My publisher is in Eugene!! I’ve been by myself but not with the family. IT’S GORGEOUS!
