Hello from L.A.!
On Friday, I was in Boston, and today, Los Angeles (well, Burbank to be exact!). I’m here with my big kids and we’re about to film a cooking segment on Hallmark’s Home & Family show. It will air tomorrow, so set your DVRs! We are so excited to be cooking together on TV! If you don’t have your copy of my newest book, Kids in the Kitchen, then you can order yours today HERE.
And for your Monday post…a bunch of random pictures. I will not be blogging tomorrow because let’s be real…by the time I do the show and fly home, it will be after midnight. #eeks So, I’ll catch back up with you on Wednesday for our What’s Up Wednesday link up! Our bonus question this month is “What’s your favorite spring wardrobe piece?”.
Have a great day!
Madeley was a little upset, but big sister Kensington was quick to swoop in with a pep talk. These two are peas in a pod.
I walked through the house and found this 🙂 . Andrew had his snowboard out and Smith apparently decided to create his own. #cleverkid
They’ve always been like this when they sleep. In real life, they pretend it doesn’t happen…but I have the pictures to prove it 😉 .
On St. Patrick’s Day, I went to the zoo with the first grade on a field trip. It was one of our best trips there! Love hanging out with my sweet boy!!
Later that night, we were at the big boys’ first baseball game and I looked over and Bowen was showing Madeley how to play football. Ha!
Madeley checking out her friend Libby’s snack. Madeley looks very interested, right?! And just for a frame of reference, Madeley is two days older than Libby…and Libby is a petite thing herself…soooooooo you see how tiny Madeley is?!
I decided to go to the grocery store early on Saturday morning before the kids woke up. I was pulling out of the garage when this sweet girl opened the back door and asked if she could go with me…pajamas and all 🙂 .
Last Saturday, this precious girl had her first t-ball game. The thing about Ashby Shull is that she doesn’t get why we’re all so excited that she’s playing this season. This girl does NOT let her disability slow her down. She is pure JOY and so DETERMINED! We are so proud of her!!! (Because swinging a bat with basically one arm and hand is tough!)
First game! Ready to take the field!
Hitting the ball like a champ!
With a brother and a sister playing baseball this season, this girl has learned how to CHEER and CLAP like a pro!
And then when this sweet girl came up to bat, we cheered the LOUDEST. Her mama would have wanted to be there so much…but I just know in my heart, that God let her watch. Sweet Miley did an amazing job too! Talk about a girl with perseverance and tenacity! #justlikehermama
Ashby’s big brother was giving her pointers out on the field 🙂 .
It was Ashby’s turn at “the mound” (with Coach Dad!).
I’ve never seen a more beautiful friendship.
And then after Smith’s game that afternoon, we headed to my parents’ town to celebrate my dad and aunt’s birthdays with bowling…
Lots of food, lots of kids, lots of bowling and lots of fun!
These two had a full day!
I love me some S & C!
Do you see how many strikes in a row Catherine has up there?!?! Someone sign her up for a league!
On Monday, we celebrated the first day of spring with lunch at the park!
We spend a lot of time waiting in the car for the big kids.
Tuesday night was Andrew’s last night of snowboarding in Colorado, so after speech therapy, we walked to one of our favorite pizza places for dinner on the patio.
Whew! Happy Monday friends! See you tomorrow on Home & Family and then back here on Wednesday :).

If you get a chance… Porto’s Bakery in Burbank is unreal. It’s a Cuban Bakery… they have four locations now.. always packed… always delicious!
I’d recommend the guava pastries, potatoe balls, media noche sandwich 🙂

Yes!! I was just scrolling down to the end of the comments to tell you the same thing. Only been to LA/Burbank once about 3 years ago and I STILL think about Portos. Amazing.

Good luck on the show today!! What a fun experience for the kids to join you!! 🙂

One of the best things about Monday mornings at 5:00 is a new post and as much coffee as i can consume before my 4 kids arrise. I was curios if the land rover is still a good fit for a family of 6? Most importantly hauling the kids around and all their stuff within the daily travels of a busy momma.
Mix and Match Mama says
We still have it and they all fit, but I primarily drive a larger vehicle now with more trunk space.

The pictures of the kids are great – Kensington is such a beautiful girl! I think it’s so cute that she and Smith hug each other while they sleep. Ashby is a fighter and she will do amazing things! Little Madeley is so happy these days – becoming a part of your family has really changed her and you can see it in all of the pictures – your family is just doing great! I will definitely try to remember to watch you all on tv tomorrow
Mary Dollar says
DVR set!!! Can’t wait to see you and the bigs on TV!!!
Ashley says
Did Kensington get glasses? I remember she was dying for another accessory, but Smith ended up with them last year 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
They’re totally fake ;). She likes to wear them at home.
Emilia says
Shay, I’m curious about which products you have on your face on Saturday at the baseball games. Your skin looks so good in that selfie with Madeley, but almost looks like you have nothing on! Is it just the tinted moisturizer and bronzer or the other products you mentioned in your makeup post? #idontknowmakeup #teachmeyourways ?
Mix and Match Mama says
Hahahahaha! You’re so sweet. Everything I use is in either my makeup post or my beauty product/skin care post!
Rebecca says
Fun picture post! Such sweet & cute kiddos! Is that a white, quatrefoil cookbook stand? Where is it from?
Thanks! ?
Mix and Match Mama says
I think Anthro!
Angela Ellingson says
Such great photos! The t-ball pictures of all of those littles are just precious. The thought of everyone cheering for Miley and her mama watching from heaven about had me in tears. So thankful that family has such a wonderful community around them! It’s times like these I really miss having cable! Hopefully your segment will be available online. Please post a link if you know of one. Have so much fun!

I didnt think Ashby could get any cuter but her in a t-ball outfit? Maybe the cutest yet.
I cant believe how big your nephew is getting already!!!!
Erin says
Random question, do you remember what color white was used on your kitchen cabinets? I love how soft the white is without being too yellow or cream, they are so pretty. Thank you!!
Angie says
In your post “The Day in the life 1/30/17” – your almond butter and oatmeal breakfast bowl – is that quick oats or old fashioned oats? Is that the only two items in that dish? It looks so good.
Mix and Match Mama says
Old fashioned! 🙂
AJ says
Samuel is the cutest little nugget.
Sara says
I think Ashby in a t-ball uniform is just about the cutest thing I’ve ever seen!
Lisa says
Hi Shay! I know you’ve done a few posts about your hair & hair products (which I love!) and how you achieve your wavy look when you wear your hair down. Have you ever done a post about how you style your hair when you wear it up? It looks so cute in the photo of you & Kensington at the grocery store! Looking for help on how to get some texture/volume on top like you have! Thank you 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh gosh! You’re so sweet! I’m pretty sure if you saw it in person, you would think it was a hot mess 😉 .
Erin Port says
I teared up seeing sweet Miley up to bat. My Aunt died leaving behind her 4 and 2 year old many years ago. It was one of the hardest things to walk through (and still hurts) but I am so thankful for the beautiful relationship I have with her 2 kids. Her daughter is going to her mom’s alma mater and will be just 30 minutes from me so I can love on her BIG! Have a wonderful time with your 2 big kids, can’t wait to hear about it!
Bethany says
Love PJs at the grocery store!
Sarah Hook says
Hi! I love keeping up with you and your sweet family. Question – what is the lipstick shade/ brand that you are wearing in most of these photos?! It’s the perfect color of pink and looks great on you 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
Ah! Thank you! It’s Bobbi Brown’s Taffeta. 🙂
Adrienne says
I’m a new reader to your blog (courtesy of Lindsay’s Sweet World) and oh my goodness, ya’ll are busy. Your kiddos are so flipping precious, especially in little baseball/softball uniforms!
Jill says
I am praying that both you and Erika take that sweet picture of Bowen and Ashby standing there in their uniforms and BLOW IT UP and FRAME IT! It is, by far, the cutest, most candid picture of those BFFs. SOOOOOOO stinking’ cute!!!!
Narci Dreffs says
Oh my heavens! I can’t handle all the sweetness in those tball pictures! So precious! And, I love that picture of you and Madeley! 🙂
Angela Ellingson says
I just watched Catherine’s Instagram story of you, Kensington and Smith on Home and Family like 10 times. Ahh! All three of you look gorgeous! Hoping they will post a link to your segment. Makes me want to get cable as this makes it a necessity! 😉
